- How to make an origami spider (Tarantula).
Warning: This model is VERY HARD!
Recommended paper:
Tissue foil, 45cm x 45cm
About tissue foil: • Tissue Foil - Origami ...
I'm using Tant 35cm x 35cm (and tissue foil 45cm x 45cm in the end)
It is possible to make it using tant, but tissue foil is better to shape the legs
Designed by Robert J. Lang

MY NEW ORIGAMI SPIDER TUTORIAL: ua-cam.com/video/TnfQo1i6utg/v-deo.html
We want a remake of this tutorial, please Jo, we would like to see it in HD and with a better camera angle
@kiwication for complex models (like this one) I shot the video with the diagrams by my side... and then I edit the video to remove the moments I'm checking the diagrams or turning the page
@fairfresh
You can make it glueing a sheet of aluminum foil and tissue paper. This kind of paper can't be found on stores... (as far as I know) You can easily find instructions to make it on the internet
There is a tissue foil on origami-shop, but it is different from homemade tissue foil
Hey Jo'! What about re-making this tutorial? :-)
Manon Kecleon ,
Yep. would be much appreciated (and would probably get a more views :))
I want the remake too!
Me too!
Not jo tadashi mori
Make a remake with better lighting and also diagrams will make it easier
@Irenerz Yes, the diagrams in this book are very clear. But all the models are complex level
@555aboud I tried copy paper now using a square cutted from a regular A4 sheet. I made most steps with no problem, but in the end it was hard because the paper is thick and it got ripped in some places. But I think it works if you use a big sheet
@MegaDannix The first spider I show is 45cm x 45cm, I think it is a good size
@masterpolik I think it works, but you may have some trouble to put the legs into a good position
@MyassWins
Yes. There is a link on video description
@Spliffonaut He is pretty liberal with letting people making videos on UA-cam, but anyways I always try not abuse making too many instructions from the same book (probably I'll make only this one)
@faggotXL
Go back to 6:36
The flap you fold down at this point can make difference, but it can be easily corrected
This middle triangular flap must be thick on the upper half and thin on the lower half (three layers on top, one on bottom). There are THREE points on the top of the model. If you have only one or two, simply find the other points (left or right of the triangular middle flap) and fold up
This model is awesome! Soooo elegant!
Thank you for the tutorial!!!
We want a remake of this tutorial, please Jo, we would like to see it in HD and with a better camera angle
@555aboud
I haven't tried, maybe it works with a very very large sheet (but I think it can rip too easily)
@shadipt
No, just portuguese, english and some japanese
@awins98 if you're familiar with sinks/unsinks, give it a try :)
Or you can also try the Ant
@lsg5200
measuring the model sideways, it will have about 27% of the lenght of the paper
@fairfresh This is very advanced model, but I recommend everyone try to fold it
@MrEllinas21 I haven't tried...
GOOD 👍
Fabulous model! The sinks were pretty nasty but I more or less pulled it off! Thanks, I really needed this tutorial because I got the sinks wrong with just the diagrams.
@bearsfannick I'll make a playlist with easy models, then you'll be able to find them easily
i was able to create this model with a 25x25 cm.
it turned out great
Yeah, but it's much harder with smaller paper.
Wow. I just finished it. Looks awesome.
Great vid, Thank you.
@MrCoolOrigami I'd recommend a larger and thinner sheet of paper
Pleasa make a remake of this. You have to guess some folds...
Wow... that's just mind-blowing. Even "Origami with Jo Nakashima"s' Origami Hercules Beetle seems tame.
@CirciSurfMusic yes, but it is not the best paper for this model
This is the hardest origami model on my channel now (among the instructional videos)
You dont need special paper to fold this. I have just fold this with a 32 cm square of 50 gsm tracing paper. Its really a nice model to fold.
@gemadiktuz
it can't be found on stores... you'll have to make it
I made this video about Tissue Foil
watch?v=IdiPD5zY5GI
Guys, I did this with baking paper, just paint it and it's looks professional xD
Thanks I needed this :D
Hey me to🙌😂
can i make this model with a square cutted from an A4 sheet of paper?
DEAR LORD! THIS IS HELL TO MAKE! I HAVE A HEADACHE WATCHING THIS! I'LL HAVE A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN IF I TRY TO MAKE THIS. THIS IS A LOT MORE DIFFICULT THAN BREEDING REAL TARANTULAS! GREAT JOB THOUGH!
Managed to fold it? Comment, post a video response on UA-cam or a picture on my facebook page!
Hi! 😁👍
@Elf514
If you got this far, you certainly can make it with a better paper!
Can you do a remake of this model, I really love it! The only problem is that I can’t follow along the tutorial.
2:57 what reference point? I didn't get it. Also 8:47 could not find the unsink step. Stuck please redo this video with diagram and graphics to clarify steps.
S L no
2:57 - Make a fold starting at the intersection between the top pinch mark and the paper edge...should be perpendicular to the central crease. (the upper pinch mark is the reference point) 8:47 - The unsinks are tricky even with a diagram; you need to pull out 2 internal layers of paper and make them symmetrical.
I FINALLY MADE IT!!! ua-cam.com/video/yu8fdf1TCLU/v-deo.html
8:47 I just forsted it to come out.
It's been 10 years since the video was released. I haven't seen your in ages.At fist , l saw your video in a origami site. I've watched your video for a long time and l didn't know that this was so old, but when I first saw it , I stared t9 like origami.I really like this chanel
:D
After 4 hours i finnsly completed it and it looks so good!!!!
After a few tries, I made it! I tried my first two times with Kami paper. It wasn't quite right and hard to make the folds. On my third try, I purchased a large piece of tissue foil. IT IS A LOT easier and I got it right.
@loganlegoformers He messages the original artist and asks permission to make the videos. When he is done he links them to it so they can see if their work was done justice. (and mostly that bit is just polite.)
how do you ask permision to the creator to make a tutorial of his origami ? please awnser!!!
I MADE IT!!!!!!!!!!
thank you, jonakashima!!
good tutorial!
step 2 wasn't really clear but i figured it out. good tutorial jonakashima
Lang = my favorite origami designer
You = the best origami video uploader.
and look at the video response. the origami tarantula was white
Thanks Jo! Mine turned out very much like yours! This model was quite tricky to learn but it gets easy when you do it a million times. Thanks!
If you can make this, try some of his other origami insects
Excelente tutorial, después de varios intentos por fin quedo realizada, gracias...
Make a remake of this video! So the quality is better and people can understand it more! (I mean like the quality of your videos now)
Olá Jo!
Parabéns pelo seu talento de origami.
Essa tarantula é mais difícil do que o watter buffalo ?
@yppcubber Obrigado! sim, tarantula é mais difícil
In every origami video i watched , you are the only one who doesn't talk alot -_-
I would recommend trimming those corners off at the beginning, because they do nothing except make extra thickness.
@unnessasarylongname nope, the one in "the complete book of origami" uses a rectangle, and the one in this video uses a square.
@PcornPoPs check video description ;)
Now making it with a 21x21 cm or 8.4x8.4 black paper will it work? The open sink part is easy but the vertical crease part is quite hard. help plzzzz
Hi! I got a problem at 08:49, I got 1 layer only not 2 help how to do it quicker?
oh yes I gonna get all of these amazing Diagramms. Books name is Origami Insects 1 and 2. Robert Lang is best!!!
That spider is awesome even though I can not keep up with any of the instructions towards the end. :)
Thankyou so much i have made it and im very pleased with the spider
Many thanks !!!!
Por fin pude terminar de hacer esa tarantula . no hubiera sido posible sin tu ayuda !! muchísimas gracias .
Con los diagramas y el video , terminé de hacerlo !! ;)
OH MY GOD!
I tried, but once I got to the half way point, my paper got so crumpled, the creases were totally unrecognizable!
INSANE! I was wondering, does the book show everything step by step? I think I should buy it!
thanks for the tutorial!
I like complex class models most of all, thanx 4 the tutorial! It is a pity that so few people likes and creates planes and rockets...
... cos they're easy
@LiindaDri Obrigado!
Entre lá no meu canal e clique em "Listas de reprodução", tem uma lista lá de origamis mais simples
This model is so hard,but model is very very wonderful.
10:37 to 10:59 is confusing. I don't know what flaps you are working on or where the model needs to be at the end of the folding sequence (10:59).
basically all lower flaps need reverse folds
I agree, even though I think Robert's diagrams are very clear.
Hey jo nakashiam i m from future day i cant se this tutorial because tge quality is very bad and its soo zoomed so please make a remake video
All you have to do is arrange the layers in a proper way. I did have some trouble at that part of the video. I recommend that you buy the book Origami insects 2. Fortunately, I managed to fold it.
is the tarantula harder or the ancient dragon and if the ancient dragon is harder, is it alot harder or a bit harder?
My trash can is full of paper
I haven't tried yrt
Min Wun welp
That’s sad😔
Mine too
She looks so real... *-* PERFEKT!
do you think that wrapping paper would be a good type of paper to do this because i haven't tried on anything hard
WOW! Thx Jo Nakashima, although mine wasn't very precise lol. I memorized the steps! :)
you make it look so easy but after watchin i finally made it
@Spliffonaut As we all know, Jo does have permission from the creator of this model. If you make a video without permission, sooner or later the creator will find out and mark it as spam and ask for the copyright or anything >.>
most easiest in the world for me because I compete with Jo nakashima
Master Cat 2311 DUDE!!! KALM DOWN!
Challenging, but worth the time and effort to make!!! :D
Well, as you sad: it's very hard. But, do you have some tipps or/and tricks to make the closen unsinks easyer. the model is too nice for giving up! Thank you.
Log Of Music I have one. Trim off the corners in the beginning.
Impossible! I can't believe it! My head is spinning! DX So many steps to learn and memorize! AHHHH!
26:04 auch....
but otherwise...smooth ;) good job :P
26:04
Can I use baking paper with another piece of baking paper glued on one side?
I tried to make this thing for the eleventh time now and I'm starting to lose my mind!! Is there any other spider designs that look this good without such difficult folds to make?
I have folded it frome a 20X20 tissue paper . and i am very happy i have also made the scorpion designed by ROBERT J LANG .So it was very easy for me to fold
just managed to fold it with A4 printer paper with only a small tear in the side of the abdomen, but the folds and details stay unlike for the origami scorpion, which is super thick
What kind of paper should I use to fold this?
Step 36 = The hardest Step in this Model ( I think). I tried about one silly Hour how to Open- Sink this Flap, but I couldnt get it. Thanks to you I' ll try it again... Using a 30cm of Tissue-Foil which I think works great for this.
One Question: Do you do your own Paper by gluing Tissue and Foil or do you buy them finished, cause I think it's better to do them on your own. The combination possibilities are just great! And did you try to add Methylcellulose to a Tissue Paper? Did not work....
I attempted to make this 4x and every attemp I make I succeeded
@awins98 It is an easy model, trust me.
Got in my first try ( of course , it didn't look good at all)
Now i am at my third try. Use big and thin paper, at first it might seem awkward but it's best.
Hardest parts are those trapezoidical sinks
I really want to make this model, but since you are saying that it is very hard i would really like to know witch models you would think that i should work with before this one?
PS. i am a... kind of... trained origami folder. If you look at my videos i have some toturials but they're quit simple. The hardest origami i have probably made is the origami jack in a box. but i have never tried to make a model and not maked it.
PLEASE RESPONSE!
why is the tant is smaller. i tought it was colored paper. it was large sheet. i trying to make that model out of a cartolina and i failed. but i still need a tissue foil.
Can you make a more detailed tutorial from 5:00 to 9:20 please because I just don't get how that happened, even when I'm doing the steps right in front of the computer.
I can't do 8:14...there is no layer to unsink...is there a difference if i fold down a different flap from the top?
YEESS!! :)
Thanks for the video Jo Nakashima :D
Very hard, but the effect is amazing.
5 hours, but definitely worth it!
@jonakashima Yeah, i think so too.
And by the way, if i get time and some papers( im out of them ) , then I try to fold it again and maybe even post a video =)
would this be easy to make with 40cm by 40cm tissue foil?
My foil paper somehow was too thick and the shaping got really difficult especially the legs
@sk84life0704 ancient dragon is harder
Ensinar a fazer o origami ancient dragon vejo vários canais fazendo, e pq vc não????? Seus tutoriais são muito bom de se compreender
@jonakashima
Well,...Idon't know why, but I definately can't do the step...after folding the rabbit ear, and while unsinking the layer something inside buffes out...then it looks different from your model....
