Sometimes there are no prior signs. I’ve also learned it’s best to not have any one whole hides ( or to have hides with two exits ) because they can feels threatened. Its a lot of work and risk that isn’t needed 🤷🏼♀️

Dizu Roodog okaY.... but just to be clear literally everyone who has had a pair will say that, then the day comes when they do fight. I’ve had some who were super bonded and adored eachother and do everything you’ve listed until one day I came home and the ones nose was hanging off. No prior warning. Especially if they are males. The only successful pairs I’ve ever seen were females. Your males WILL end up fighting. I work in a small petshop and trust me all male pairs will eventually fight. This goes for almost every species. That was with all precautions, two great size wheels, multiple hides with two holes, lots of bedding, two water bottles and two food dishes. I won’t be rude about it but everyone who has a pair claims they’re fine and will be extremely naive, just like yours are fine now, but trust me especially being males they will end up fighting. You can take this information and choose to either tell yourself they will be fine because they are now or you can choose to be safe than sorry and split them and not come home to a bloody hamster or two bloody hamsters one day.
Shay Rose I’m really anxious now, I don’t think my parents would want to separate them unless they had fought, 😭 I have no idea what to do! I always worry about them
I am one of those rare experienced hamster owners who can actually pull off having a pair. Like you I would not advise anyone else to try it and less they had been keeping hamsters for like at least a decade. As always you know what you’re talking about, I’m just glad that my tango and Cash are still getting along and everything‘s fine but then again their enclosure is large enough there are two of everything and they came from the same litter! And I’ve got a perfectly appropriate cage to separate them into if I have to. Preparation is the key to being a good pet parent❤️
last year i went to the pet store to buy a dwarf hamster and the worker told me they have to be housed together, so i have three. i only later discovered that they shouldn't really be housed together !! luckily they all get along but it just shows you shouldn't always trust the pet store workers lmao.
Thank you! This was very helpful, I have had this question for a little while! Now that I have listened to your tips and things to help hamsters, my little Dwarf Russian Hamster is very happy! I fixed my mistakes immediately thanks to you! From my hamsters love to yours♥️
i have two robo hamsters living together in a pretty big cage, i dont think they are from the same litter but they seem to be getting along. hoping for the best for me two boys waffle and nugget
Yea same my dwarf hammy had an accidental littler and I decided to keep one. They seem to be loving each other I hope there won't be any fighting tho. The one I decided to keep is also named nugget! Love my 2 girls Peppa and Nugget!
This was really helpful because I was recommended to get my hamsters in a pair and now they’ve started fighting. I thought they were social and this wouldn’t be serious but now knowing this and realising that they prefer to be on there own in this environment I’m getting the spare cage down as we speak
I had a dwarf pair for 2 years and they were inseparable. I housed them both in a detolf but they literally slept all the time in one corner together lmao
Believe it or not, most of pet hamster prefer to live alone, because their owner give too much care for them, sometimes they need an extreme condition, for example cold temperatures or give them task to build cave tunnels. But never make them extremely hungry. We must to give them reason, why they need "friend"
YAYAYAYAY THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!! After doing a lot of research I decided to get a pair of Russian campels. They are the same sex, species, and age/litter. I’ve had them for 4 months now and they have so far been good. I have an extra cage and will separate them immediately if I see any deathly fights!
How have they been? I had 2 male campers from same litter and 2 months in the smaller one decided to kick out the bigger one, already had a second cage set and ready for him when they broke up, but it still sucked, I was hopeful.
This is really interesting to me though, because the association for hamster owners and breeders in Sweden state that it's required by law to keep Campbells together if possible. Of course, there could be issues such as if they start fighting and then you have to separate them. But like getting two siblings of the same gender is recommended and advised.
The things you learn! I used to have two roborovski females, housed together in a small cage (didn’t know any better back then) they lived over 3 years in peace and harmony 🤷🏼♀️. Never seen them fighting, they slept together, and ever ran the wheel together.
I`m so grateful for this video! My winter white dwarf recently passed away at 2 years and eight months. I think he had an awesome life, but after recently coming across reddit posts mentioning winter whites living together, I had this horrible thought that he had been deprived by not having a cage mate. (I have rats, who can`t happily live alone, so I get the concept that some animals aren`t solitary.) Thanks so much for clearing this up!
I'm a first time hamster owner and I got two male robos. It didn't take long for one of my robos to become agressive. The one hamster starting biting the other and I separated immediately. They are both happy In separate cages 💕
Love this! And especially the lil mustaches and bows on the male and female hammies😍 Something that I'd like to add: there are quite a few people that I know that keep dwarf hamsters together here in Germany, and I talked to them a bit about the care and what you need to look out for. They said to make sure that the cage is big (at least our minimum (100x50) but not too much bigger because it will allow the hamsters to make territories and fight. We also only keep Campbells in groups here, mainly because it's super hard to find a certified winter white breeder to make sure they are pure bred :) But keeping dwarfs together is only for very experienced hamster owners, and I wouldn't do it
Thank you! I'm glad someone appreciates the little details! I have noticed that, but one of my issues with it is that, if hamsters were actually social animals don't you think it would not matter how much space you gave them? I think that the fact that you have to give them a smaller enclosure just so they won't end up creating a territory and fighting just shows they really are more so solitary. It definitely is an interesting topic!
@@VictoriaRaechel Definitely true! I would never keep several together, because I don't see any benefits. I would also rather keep animals that are actually social together than ones that aren't! And you're right, it is very interesting :)
This video explains why all hamsters should live alone but the comments are full of people asking if their hamster can live with another hamster. 🤦♂🤦♂
As a mom with two Campbell’s living together, my boys live very well together and I’ve had no problems, even now at the 7months mark. But I do not recommend multiple hamsters for beginners. You really need to be attentive to your hamster’s personality and relationships when you house them together. You don’t always need two of every thing (water bottles for example, and nests.. when hamsters get along they tend to sleep together for warmth, but this will depend on your hamster’s behaviour and personality) HOWEVER you do need two wheels for sure, and always get two of everything if you’re not sure how your hamsters are going to react. This all depends on your hamsters and the rule is to KNOW your hamsters and be attentive. If fights break out ALWAYS be ready to separate them forever. Some hamsters, even dwarves, just don’t get along. Those should not be housed together. In the end it’s all dependent on your hamsters, who are each unique. TLDR: dwarfs CAN be housed together in peace IF you are very attentive and the hamsters get along. Key requirement is same gender litter mates who have never been separated from birth, even for a few hours.
Lili yes! and also have another cage handy (even if its just a bin cage) just in case! I have two robos living together! they are sisters and have never been separated.
that's right! i currently house 2 females who are from the same litter, they have never been separated since birth and get along well. their cage is big enough so they have their own favourite spots, but sometimes still do sleep together :)
@Iuvryujin no not really, the most they've gone is some squeaks and that's all, no bites no wounds! usually hamsters fight for dominance, but their cage is big so they have their own areas, hence they don't fight :)
I just got my first pair of winter whites, I have had 3 solitary hamsters so far including a winter white. I was thinking about separating them on their first night(they seemed to ignore each other a little bit). Now this morning they built a burrow together. And they always want the same wheel. They try to run in different directions though so their butts keep bumping🥰
Im glad you get straight to the point in your videos. I haye when youtubers have like 2-5 minute long intros talking about nothing. Your videos helped me alot and educated me. Thanks so much
I m the owner of two dwarfs... they always sleep together... they have there own separate wheel, hideouts, dishes etc.. and i have no issues about there fight... and every day i give them a free roam in my room😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
If you really want two hamsters, it’s probably because they are cute to watch and interact with each other. If this is why, then i would recommend mice as pets instead. They are way more social if you get a group of females, and love to snuggle together which is cute to watch and much safer than a group of hamsters.
For my birthday I got 2 roborovski hamsters Pepper and Daisy, at night I would hear them fighting and they separated into a corner of the cage, I immediately separated them, Daisy is living in an aquarium tank at the moment but we are getting both of them bigger cages, they seem a lot happier separate and I want to give them the best life possible x
Even when you have a successful pair if one dies the other one can just about die of a broken heart. I had a pair and they were very sweet and the one developed a health issue and died. It took me a long time to get the dead body away because she wouldn’t stop cuddling her. After that it look me a long time to get her to eat regularly again and she was just never the same, big chunks of depression, especially in her cage and she kinda just gave up on life at one point, just never got over it. Happens with horses too, there have been cases where they have had to put horses down because one dies and the other gives up on living without them.
Wish I had this info months ago! The pet shop advise me to get 2 dwarf hamsters and they were fighting for ages. They seem alright now, they sleep together but sometimes one of them does push the other over.. I’ll keep an eye on them but I’m so glad to have this info to hand! Xx
I am a huge fan of your channel! I have taken all of your advice and my two Russian hamsters sisters are very grateful! I have had them a little over a month and Im still going thru the taming process. And additional tips? They still seem nervous about going onto my hand. When I purchased the sisters the pet owner told me they can be housed together. 😒 I've only witnessed a few squabs between them. But after seeing your videos, I constructed another large DIY bin cage and separated the sisters. April and May are now very happy in their own enclosures and only interact during taming sessions/ playtime. I wish more pet owners where as kind to animals like you. I always look forward to your videos! Thank you so much from a new hamster lover!
I think just taking the process slow and steady is always good! Try to get into a routine of when you do it too and they might start to expect you to always come at that time! I'm really glad my channel and videos could be of help to you, thank you!
@@VictoriaRaechel that makes perfect sense! Thank you for such a quick response. They are also picky eaters and don't like to eat their veggies... I will keep taking your advice and only feed when bowl is empty/ every other day or so. Thank you again for all your help!
I used to have a male and female dwarf hamsters and after a while they brought 7 hamsters, so after the babies grow up i noticed that the father keep following the females so i separated them and now they're much better and not hurting each other + the mother hamster died few weeks ago 😔 RIP kookie 💜😔
OMG! So many people that I know say that dwarf hamsters can happily live together because they are 'social' animals when they are really not. In the wild the live together for safety and reproduction as you stated, as they feel safe in numbers as some will be on the 'lookout' while others... do other things... xD
im am so happy you told me about seyrian hamster can not live together because I have two and they live together and because of your help I have separated them
i had a pair of winter white dwarf hamsters for a very long time! over a year and a half i’d say!! they loved each other and were great for monthssss! they fought once so i separated them. they played from time to time in a big play pen; they were such great brothers😭💗 they never were housed together again except one day i noticed one of ‘em getting old and then they were living together again because the healthier one knew not to mess with his sick brother.💗
a note to everyone commenting: just because your hamsters haven't fought, doesn't mean they won't! it is irresponsible housing them while knowing that they could fight and kill each other when you're not around or while you're SLEEPING
At the pet store a rat never got adopted and I guess was there for a long time and he died from old age and the other rats were trying to perform CPR on the rat 😂
I learned the hard way having two chinese dwarf hamsters. I tried doing research before getting a hamster but was getting false answers and different answers. My hamsters looked like they liked each other and after a while one ended up dead. 😭 and the girl who gave me the hamsters had her hamsters together and never had issues. I'm so glad I found your channel so that I can give my poor baby a better chance than what his brother had. He was overcrowded. 😥 I'm working on freeing his stress by getting bigger and better things!!
I saw this guy on tiktok housing a bunch of roborovski's together and they were all running on saucer wheels, when i asked "why are they being housed together?" i immediately got blocked 💀😖, actually kinda crazy
I've seen a dwarf hamster lose a leg in a fight... And my friend who tried to stop them got bitten. I was ten at that time and I was so scared, even the parents didn't know what to do
So basically as long as you are on top of things and have a large enough enclosure & double of everything, you can house them together, and separate them if necessary?
Warching this as im playing with my two female dwarfs. I have a 750 square inch bin cahe for them. Two hide out, two tunnels one wheel and one food dish😑. My mom wont buy me another wheel or another food dish. What should i do?
Very informative. Honestly i have seen people house hamsters together but it was always in a big cage and double supplies so i didnt know if it was actually ok to do that. I would personally never place a pair of hamsters together since i really dont wanna risk fights or even death. Thank you so mucb for this video!!
omg this video saved me i was going to get two dwarfs because there just so cute i love syrians but i wanted two haha so i thought dwarfs would be good 😂 but i think i’m just gonna get a syrian thank you so much 🥰
I used to have two dwarfs living together and they sometimes fought but the huge problem was that after one died, the other one became super depressed. I honestly don’t recommend it. Two hamsters together take a ton of work
I wouldn’t recommend it. I have two robos and I’ve had them for about a month, we have a HUGE cage and we decided to go get the other two girls from the same litter so they were all girl litter mates but they fought anyways. I guess it’s because theyve been apart but yeah it’s not really worth the risk if you ask me
Yay I got my notifs at the right time again! I just got a winter white dwarf hamster (he is adorable ^-^) and I have actually been wondering this question thanks for making a video about it c:
Shyamala Tharmendiran yes! just because that haven’t fought doesn’t mean they won’t ever fight. just in case, to make sure, if i was in ur shoes, i would. Good luck with your hamsters!
A lady at Petsmart told me she heard a noise and found that her pair of dwarf hamsters got into a fight. The one hamster scratched the others eyes out.... I do not know the details on the housing, but I would never put 2 hamsters together. I don't care on the breed, enclosure ect. I'm too nervous and they are fine alone. Your video was very helpful and full of information. I agree with you the cons outweigh the pros.
I can't wait to get a hamster one day I want a Syrian hamster tho and I know they should live on their own. I'm loving doing research at the moment and learning :-)🌼🌼

And I’ve got a perfectly appropriate cage to separate them into if I have to. Preparation is the key to being a good pet parent❤️
Can I ask how large is your cage?
last year i went to the pet store to buy a dwarf hamster and the worker told me they have to be housed together, so i have three. i only later discovered that they shouldn't really be housed together !! luckily they all get along but it just shows you shouldn't always trust the pet store workers lmao.
I had put a male dwarf hamster and a robo together and they wherr best friends!
I also have 3 sisters & they are always together & even sleep together❤
Could I house two russian dwarf hamsters different sex? I am okay if the possibility that they have pups!
I am planning to buy dwarf hamster thanks for sharing your experience
Thank you! This was very helpful, I have had this question for a little while! Now that I have listened to your tips and things to help hamsters, my little Dwarf Russian Hamster is very happy! I fixed my mistakes immediately thanks to you!
From my hamsters love to yours♥️
Thank you for watching! I'm happy my videos could help!
Could I house two russian dwarf hamsters different sex? I am okay if the possibility that they have pups!
i have two robo hamsters living together in a pretty big cage, i dont think they are from the same litter but they seem to be getting along. hoping for the best for me two boys waffle and nugget
Yea same my dwarf hammy had an accidental littler and I decided to keep one. They seem to be loving each other I hope there won't be any fighting tho.
The one I decided to keep is also named nugget! Love my 2 girls Peppa and Nugget!
My syrian hamsters name is Waffle!
@@peppapeppa8114 did they ever end up fighting?
@@ChunKeyPeach oh yea they did😂 I had to get a whole new cage for the baby hamster. They are doing great now without each other.
I have 2 winter whites from the same litter living together hope they don’t fight when I’m at my dads and not home love my salt and pepper
This was really helpful because I was recommended to get my hamsters in a pair and now they’ve started fighting. I thought they were social and this wouldn’t be serious but now knowing this and realising that they prefer to be on there own in this environment I’m getting the spare cage down as we speak
I burst out laughing at those multiple dwarf hamster pics pops out xD
I am your biggest fan and can you make more pet morning routine pls🙂
Thank you! My morning pet routine really isn't a lot besides doing my rabbit stuff and then misting my crested gecko.
Hi Zainab!
Done
It's so cute to see sugar and spice again.

I had a dwarf pair for 2 years and they were inseparable. I housed them both in a detolf but they literally slept all the time in one corner together lmao
Maybe you had luck unlike others that their hamsters fought to death 😔 I wish I can have that same luck if I do end up getting another hamster
Same lol they sleep together
Same a have two boy dwarfs and the6 love sleeping together
Same here
Believe it or not, most of pet hamster prefer to live alone, because their owner give too much care for them, sometimes they need an extreme condition, for example cold temperatures or give them task to build cave tunnels.
I am doing research, and thinking of owning a pair together, hows it going now? 😊
How have they been? I had 2 male campers from same litter and 2 months in the smaller one decided to kick out the bigger one, already had a second cage set and ready for him when they broke up, but it still sucked, I was hopeful.
I had 2 Russian campels that were both males and brothers, but they started fighting after some months
how have they been? i just got a pair of dwarf brothers and i’m wondering if you were successful
my mom kind of pushed me into getting two and i’m worried they'll start fighting :( i've had them a day and they haven't fought yet
Before I knew they were better alone, I had 2 dwarf hamsters and they were brothers. Luckily, they didn't fight. They did everything together🥰
This is really interesting to me though, because the association for hamster owners and breeders in Sweden state that it's required by law to keep Campbells together if possible. Of course, there could be issues such as if they start fighting and then you have to separate them. But like getting two siblings of the same gender is recommended and advised.
You are the coolest hamster lover!!!!😍🥰😜😎😅🐹🐹🐹
aw hehe thank you
Thank you Victoria!!!😊😇😍🥳🤩

Such a great topic! So important :-) Thank you Victoria for keeping us all informed
Thank you!
I Live in Brazil,I don't speak English but your video help me a lot
I love Animals I love Hamster
I have one hamster and two gerbil
I'm glad you made the decision to separate them!
Yes my two robos have been fighting so much so I'm off to the vets wed as one has a poorly leg, I just hope he'll be ok 🥺
You deserve so much more subscribers ♥️
aw thank you 😢
This video explains why all hamsters should live alone but the comments are full of people asking if their hamster can live with another hamster.
I have two robos living together! they are sisters and have never been separated.
madmonkey545 that’s amazing❤️ I actually recommend bin cages (that are big enough of course) to prevent bar chewing or climbing 🐹✨
What is the logic behind a statement like “beginners shouldn’t...”? How will having a lone hamster prepare someone for housing a pair?
that's right! i currently house 2 females who are from the same litter, they have never been separated since birth and get along well. their cage is big enough so they have their own favourite spots, but sometimes still do sleep together :)
I know this is going to be great!!!
Been told they’re “social” thank you for this information! I could have made a mistake!
Earlyyyyyy! Omg I love your channel and hammiesss!!!

Thank you!
Good were getting dwarf hamsters and we wanted to know that THANKS :D
I m the owner of two dwarfs... they always sleep together... they have there own separate wheel, hideouts, dishes etc.. and i have no issues about there fight... and every day i give them a free roam in my room😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Reema Dhiman same! I have two sisters who have been together since birth! They always sleep together!
That’s so nice! Too bad these scenarios are not always the case 🤨
If you really want two hamsters, it’s probably because they are cute to watch and interact with each other. If this is why, then i would recommend mice as pets instead. They are way more social if you get a group of females, and love to snuggle together which is cute to watch and much safer than a group of hamsters.
Rats also live in groups are very social to humans as well! I currently have four.
Gerbils can do this too.
Love how she gets straight to the point
Now why is safety not a reason to house them together? What other reason would animals be in colonies anyway?
Thanks for this video. Dwarf hamsters are adorable but as pets; together they just don’t need each other as they do in the wild
I agree! They just get no benefits living together in captivity!
Glad you decided to separate them and they didn't end up with any injuries!
Victoria Raechel thank you ❤️
Even when you have a successful pair if one dies the other one can just about die of a broken heart.
My calendar says it’s Victoria Day in Canada...so um....Happy Victoria Day tori!😂
Bahaha thank you
Wish I had this info months ago! The pet shop advise me to get 2 dwarf hamsters and they were fighting for ages. They seem alright now, they sleep together but sometimes one of them does push the other over.. I’ll keep an eye on them but I’m so glad to have this info to hand! Xx
How are they doing now?

I used to have a male and female dwarf hamsters and after a while they brought 7 hamsters, so after the babies grow up i noticed that the father keep following the females so i separated them and now they're much better and not hurting each other

happy to hear that!
Is no one gonna talk about auger and spice in the thumbnail rip I miss them so much(you’ll only know them if you are an og)
I've been here since she was like 12 XD
OMG! So many people that I know say that dwarf hamsters can happily live together because they are 'social' animals when they are really not. In the wild the live together for safety and reproduction as you stated, as they feel safe in numbers as some will be on the 'lookout' while others... do other things... xD
im am so happy you told me about seyrian hamster can not live together because I have two and they live together and because of your help I have separated them
Oh my gosh 1:38 now I wish all hamsters had mustaches and bows!!!!!
bahaha ikr?
This was great because I was thinking if getting two dwarves.
i had a pair of winter white dwarf hamsters for a very long time! over a year and a half i’d say!! they loved each other and were great for monthssss! they fought once so i separated them. they played from time to time in a big play pen; they were such great brothers😭💗 they never were housed together again except one day i noticed one of ‘em getting old and then they were living together again because the healthier one knew not to mess with his sick brother.💗
I just bought two males together thinking a large bin would be okay...I plan to get a second bin tonight 🙄
a note to everyone commenting: just because your hamsters haven't fought, doesn't mean they won't! it is irresponsible housing them while knowing that they could fight and kill each other when you're not around or while you're SLEEPING
At the pet store a rat never got adopted and I guess was there for a long time and he died from old age and the other rats were trying to perform CPR on the rat 😂
This is exactly what I needed!! Thank you soo much🤗🤗❤️❤️
I was just playing with my syrian when this was released :)
The scariest thing happened today I’m crying I got home and my hamsters lid was open I almost fainted but my mom checked it was in its hut
I saw this guy on tiktok housing a bunch of roborovski's together and they were all running on saucer wheels, when i asked "why are they being housed together?" i immediately got blocked 💀😖, actually kinda crazy
Hi Victoria I’m a bit late but thanks for the advise
Love it when she posts on Saturdays !!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🤠🤠🤠
I think all hamsters should live alone but some may live together but it depends on the hamsters personality

Best not to :) pointless and not natural anyways.
thank you for this video!! i completely agree. i have a campbell's and she is very happy on her own!

Very informative. Honestly i have seen people house hamsters together but it was always in a big cage and double supplies so i didnt know if it was actually ok to do that. I would personally never place a pair of hamsters together since i really dont wanna risk fights or even death. Thank you so mucb for this video!!

I used to have two dwarfs living together and they sometimes fought but the huge problem was that after one died, the other one became super depressed. I honestly don’t recommend it. Two hamsters together take a ton of work
i have had a dwaft hamster for 3 weeks now and i want to get a 2nd male from same litter and i have a big cage so could i do that?
I wouldn’t recommend it. I have two robos and I’ve had them for about a month, we have a HUGE cage and we decided to go get the other two girls from the same litter so they were all girl litter mates but they fought anyways. I guess it’s because theyve been apart but yeah it’s not really worth the risk if you ask me
Thank you😊 Victoria

Yay I got my notifs at the right time again! I just got a winter white dwarf hamster (he is adorable ^-^) and I have actually been wondering this question thanks for making a video about it c:
I have 2 dwarfs living together! They haven't fought though. Should i seperate them just in case?
Shyamala Tharmendiran yes! just because that haven’t fought doesn’t mean they won’t ever fight. just in case, to make sure, if i was in ur shoes, i would. Good luck with your hamsters!
How are they doing?
A lady at Petsmart told me she heard a noise and found that her pair of dwarf hamsters got into a fight. The one hamster scratched the others eyes out.... I do not know the details on the housing, but I would never put 2 hamsters together. I don't care on the breed, enclosure ect. I'm too nervous and they are fine alone. Your video was very helpful and full of information. I agree with you the cons outweigh the pros.
