In this video I walk you through the process of installing a DiabloSport Predator tune on your 99-04 Mustang GT. I also discuss my personal experience with the tune and whether or not I think it is worth the money.
The process for uploading this tune is very similar with other handheld tuners, for both this model mustang and updated versions such as the 3v and coyote platforms.

I had the same instrument cluster on my 02 GT. It was actually the first mod I did. Loved that thing.

Go bigger throttle body and 44cc heads and bolt on headers and catless I'm sure you'll make more hp with the tune

If you own your ride and already have most bolt ons a tuner is well worth the money spent and a necessity to get your moneys worth from the bolt ons. The question is why wouldn't you spend the 400 bucks to buy a tuner and take full advantage of what you already have even if you only gain 25-30 peak at the rear wheels? What the goof balls here ignore is that while 25-30 peak horsepower dosent sound like much, these tunes are factually doccumented to add an average increase of nearly 50HP in the curve when paired with the traditional bolt ons. That is in fact a serious difference and benefits you at all RPM’s which will translate into significantly lower 1/4 or 1/8 mile times.
Is it going to make it feel like a 350+ cubic inch engine? Of course not! Yet, I can promise you with bolt ons and a tune the 2v will easily beat a stock N/A 3v or 4v. With the more advanced bolt ons and a tune you can hang with a Coyote 5.0 and run 12’s.

Canned tunes are useless on on a 2V. Fortunately I had easy access years ago to a Dyno so I was able to see the results with minimal gains of about 6-7 Hp with a stock configuration on a 93 Octane SCT race tune. On the plus side with easy bolt-ons and a good local tuner shop, you can really open up the 2V's and get respectable power gains.

Of course they have a greater affect with an auto, they modify the shifting on top of the engine retune. Whereas with a manual you dont get that benefit.

My 96 2v ran great but got poor gas mileage. I used Torque app with spark record and found it only had 29 btdc so that's why my gas mileage was horrible. So is the spark advance adjustable related to engine load?

Figured I buy this for the starter programmer to see its power. The modify tune setting seems more in depth in the settings than the simple click of the 93 octane base tune stored on the device! Dropped a 5.4 dohc in mine. 48lb fuel injectors with custom air intake, with stock intake manifold.

I spent 400$ on the Diablo tune a while back my car has cams heads intake full exhaust rebuilt motor gears ect.... In my opinion it's not worth that kind of money. But to me the stock Diablo tune woke the car up it alot better it's hard to explain but I can go pretty fast and shift quick with me and 2others in the car and it still moves alot faster then stock

It's not worth the money if you just have bolt-ons on a 2v GT. The difference is much more noticeable on a coyote 5.0 or even a 4v 4.6. (Yes I've tried it on all three) The 2v is just weak and doesn't respond well to mods. The real point of a tuner though, and when it's absolutely necessary, is when you go all out and add forced induction + get a dyno tune. They only give you canned tunes for stock or bolt-on cars to sell more of them, and yeah it's not really worth it if that's all you're planning to do on a 4.6.

kingcrimson234 ive always came to the conclusion a 2v has to be boosted to get decent power out of it. i have a 4v and has used the tuner on both and its definetly noticible on the 4v vs the 2v. they just need more air and they are beast.

    • @allannichols9864

Dude you are really being a moron!!! How can you say a tuner is worthless when its required to gain the full power from your bolt ons? With a tune and bolt ons these cars are proven to easily gain 25 hp peak and 50 in the curve. This is nothing to laugh at and can easily put these cars in the low 13’s with goid tires and a decent driver. When you have the more exotic bolt ons like long tubes, a built rear and cams you can easily go 12’s with stock 2v heads and bottom end.
I can tell straight away you have no clue what you are talking about when you trash the 2v 4.6 as if the 4v is any better in stock or mildly modified trim. Stock the early 4v non terminator cars are marginally faster the a stock GT despite having 6 gears. The truth is the complete opposite of what you claim. Its when you boost the 2v and 4v that the higer flow of the 4v heads really shine and leave the 2v in the dust. This can be offest with a good stage 3 job on the 2v heads which enables them to flow enough to make a max around 700hp with boost. With Trick Flow heads and boost these 2v’s can easily top 1000hp.

What is decent power in your world a 10 or 11 second quarter mile car?
Consider that stock these cars can run low 14’s pretty decent comparrd to most cars even today. With basic bolt ons and a tune they are doing low 13’s. With more advanced bolt ons like long tubes, cams and built rear with stickey tires you have a low to mid 12 second car.
Plenty of guys have gone 11’s with a N/A 2v with all the afformentioned bolt ons, stripping some weight and having a good suspension set up.

@@Djuane apparently you have never heard of headers, camshafts, or upgrading/porting heads! NEWSFLASH..... The only thing that makes the 4v "better" than a 2v is the amount of air that flows through the heads. This is mostly the result of a more aggressive camshaft profile and better flowing heads. It's a well known fact that a ported 2v will equal and in some instances outperform a 4v head in terms of flow and make similar power when paired with similar cam profiles. If you add the Trick Flow heads the 2v will smoke a stock 4v B or C head all day long period........ Of course you can port a 4v head and it will ultimately outflow any 2v head, but that was not the point of this conversation. Your claim was that a 2v must have boost to get decent power and your claim is clearly not true.
I have regularly seen all motor 2v's beat boosted 2v's at the track and on the street! You can see plenty of videos on youtube confirming this. For example the average entry level 2v blower setup like a vortec will give you around 360-3800 HP at the crank. A 2v with all the bolt-ons including heads, headers, and cams will easily match this or even better it in some instances. When someone says it's not worth it consider that my GT cost me 21,000 when new in 1999 at the same time I could have bought a Cobra for nearly 30,000, so when you add the 5-7k spent on mods I still spent less than someone who bought a Cobra and my car will absolutely embarrass a stock Non Terminator Cobra or Mach 1.
