I'm glad you decided to watch these. The world of Overlord is as expansive as Game of Thrones, so it makes sense that you'd get the recommendation on a GoT premiere. Just so you know, this anime is an Isekai, which translates as "different world", and always revolve around a character being transported to a different world. There's at least one more season of Overlord to come, and before that, a movie that covers some events that were skipped in the last season.
ASOIAF and Overlord has similar storytelling. subtle and pov, with unreliable narrators. unfortunately GoT proved a death sentence for asoiaf. grrm retired from his hbo money

If you like reading, Overlord's Light Novel series is one of the best fantasy anime ones. So much worldbuilding! Unfortunately the anime skips over a bunch of stuff and takes some shortcuts in animation, overall I still enjoy the anime but s4 in particular has felt a bit like a speedrun and I really appreciated the fact that I read it first so I knew all the details the anime skipped. You can still enjoy it as an anime only though. Would I say it's like a top10 must watch show for a new viewer of anime? Maybe not. But if you do feel like watching a villain plot with a neat world it's not a terrible choice.
I don't know why people constantly get disappointed/surprised by anime and/or movies not mentioning every detail/event that happens in a novel or novel series. Video format is so vastly different to written, you only have so much time to convey events to the viewer.

You need to read the lyrics. The opening themes take on whole new meanings once you know what they are singing about. Some of the implications are worrying for the residents of the world. Especially the third op3ning.

A four year gap between the seasons, but it was *WORTH THE WAIT.* One of my favorite animes, and truly a masterpiece when it comes to storylines, music and animation effects. Not to mention that they have legit one of the best lines and quotes which relate to real life and have such a deep meaning in them, oh and the fact that some scenes can make you legit cry and sad from the plot. There's a movie in the making that's probably releasing next year or 2 more years, and then perhaps even a season 5 - which is not confirmed yet (But since the anime always has such a positive feedback, rating and a big loving community so its very very likely)
The body count in Overlord is lower than GoT the first two and a half seasons then it starts ramping up and the torturer/intelligence officer could teach those GoT crazies a few tricks. It gets dark like GoT and don't trust "the power of friendship" to save you.

Higurashi anime is pretty faithful. They only change a like 2 things and has unique content the VN doesn't have. =3 Though if you stick with the VN then when you move to the sequels that are better in VN you won't change as much. I like Saki, No Game No Life, and Lycoris Recoil as my 3 tops. =3 Puella Magi and Made in Abyss are great too though. =3

The anime tried to sell the horror and crazy aspects which came at a detriment to the characters and atmosphere although the atmosphere is still pretty good in the anime. The VN is much more on making you experience the world and setting a creepy and uncertain atmosphere (with an amazing soundtrack), Mystery and deeply developing the character until you perfectly understand each of their actions and while there are gory scenes its not the focus. the manga which is an amazing adaptation higu as well as Umi completely sets on grotesque imagery to drive the unsettling feeling home it can't do with music as it's a manga. I know slow burning VNs aren't for everyone especially not with this generations ever decreasing attention span (this is coming from someone with ADHD) but spending so much time with the characters really I let's you slowly over some weeks maybe month get familiar with them more than an anime can ever do due to the everyday interactions which is why I like the visual novel and light novel as well more than anime nowadays. A story sticks much more in my head if I didn't binge it in one day though it doesn't have to take 9 month like it took me to read Umi. Anyway I rambled enough last thing is best soundtracks: 1. I´m not sure how familiar you are with the "Isekai" genre in anime. But its safe to say that it is one of the most oversaturated genres in anime and has heaps of trash shows in it, but also some of the best animes period. Two that just come to mind are "Mushoku Tensei" and "Re:Zero". Most Isekai nowadays also need something special that differentiates them from all the others and sometimes its actually a good idea, and thats how you get something like "Overlord". Overlord could be summed up by saying "Its a Isekai, but the MC is the bad guy and the bad guys win". Its not a super good show, but it stands out among other Isekais and has a strong twist and a generally good combination of good writing, premise and worldbuilding.

The investment in tension and believability suffer immensely under this. Its certainly entertaining, but if I had to choose this or something like Mushoku, I´d pick Mushoku every time. You are in the very lucky position to be able to enjoy the best fruits of an entire industry for quite a while^^

We're not meant to watch him struggle, instead we're supposed to look and see how the world reacts to this new and powerful force that came out of nowhere. It is interesting watching how the different nations and people all react to Ainz's actions and as such, people get invested in the world, not just Nazarick. The tension comes from watching the other characters attempt to survive our MC and his merry band of evil NPCs.

In fact I would say it uses it quite expertly to construct it's plot points and lets it drive the story forward in quite believable fashion. It is quite slow paced tho but that is because a lot happens in the world at large and because from world building standpoint seeing things through some of the side characters' eyes gives interesting perspectives to the story that play into the expert use of the overpowered MC trope. The main character and their faction is not the only thing we care about, so when they are set against the MC we hope the best for them even though the chances are slim.

@@cronos4024 I don't think Overlord suffers from the overpowered MC trope. In fact I would say it uses it quite expertly to construct it's plot points and lets it drive the story forward in quite believable fashion. It is quite slow paced tho but that is because a lot happens in the world at large and because from world building standpoint seeing things through some of the side characters' eyes gives interesting perspectives to the story that play into the expert use of the overpowered MC trope. The main character and their faction is not the only thing we care about, so when they are set against the MC we hope the best for them even though the chances are slim.
The Light Novels/Web Novels this is based on is from a korean author which was then made into a japanese manga which turned into a japanese anime.
