Very interesting video, especially since Sézane is becoming more of fast fashion lately, I’ve been noticing a little lesser quality in their pieces. That said, on the screen, Sézane sweater looked to have better seams and stitching in my eyes while Arket one looked a bit flimsy and prone to wrinkling…and I also liked the muted, deeper blue of Sézane more. But thank you for sharing your great perspective.

Thank you for your comment! The idea behind this video (and the new series) is to offer both a qualitative and quantitative comparison between brands. I know Arket might not be everyone’s go-to shop, but these two sweaters look very similar, and not everyone can afford Sézane’s prices - not to mention the sustainability and transparency behind the items.

Mariana, did you know that China is the world’s largest producer of Merino wool and it buys almost all the merino wool grown by the number 2 (Australia) and number 3 (New Zealand) producers of Merino. It’s very difficult to find Merino knitwear NOT made in China, even if the wool is imported from Australia or New Zealand. I know the Maurice sweater is Yak wool and I asked my Step mother who is from North-East China and according to her, Yak wool has been common in China for hundreds of years because it is very warm. I understand you wanting more transparency around manufacturing etc but I do think it is going to become more and more difficult to find any quality knitwear that is manufactured anywhere but China. I am not saying this is your mindset but the amount of xenophobia I see around Chinese manufacturing in the online/social media world is actually disappointing. As long as everyone in the supply chain is being paid fairly and treated well, I don’t think it matters where an item is made. I find it interesting that the Arket sweater is just called “wool” as you know being a knitter, there can be a huge difference between wool quality. To me the Arket looks cheap, it doesn’t drape well at all and I wouldn’t choose to keep it. I know the Sezane sweater is more expensive but it does appear to be better quality. Sezane really need to provide at least one studio photo of each item showing it’s true color….its drives me crazy that you never know what the colour is going to be like until it arrives 😩
I know it takes a lot of time and effort to knit a sweater but if I could knit I would be knitting my own sweaters. Unfortunately my brain struggles with knitting.
Great video…. I really enjoy your thoughtful videos. Are you still loving your Clementine bag? I ordered one recently and it’s become a favourite! 💕

Hi! First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights! I had no idea about the massive Merino wool production in China, so I really appreciate you explaining that. I completely understand your point about xenophobia, and I totally agree with you. I hope it came across that my *main* concern is the labor practices involved. It’s not about where the materials come from, but about ensuring that everyone involved-farmers, factory employees, truck drivers, and beyond-is paid fairly and works under good conditions :)
The yak wool is incredibly soft and warm, but I do think the video didn’t do the Arket sweater justice-those wrinkles were so distracting, and I honestly didn’t give it the attention it deserved while filming.
The purpose of the video was really to highlight the kind of transparency we need from these companies. I totally agree with you, we can't trust H&M Group on fair labor and sustainability. But brands like Sézane, which position themselves as sustainable, should go the extra mile to explain where and how their labor practices meet the standards we expect, whether it’s in China, Bulgaria, or anywhere else in the world.
How exciting that your Clémentine arrived! Did you go for the mini or the regular size? I still love mine-it’s my go-to bag, especially for travel since it’s so lightweight and the leather is much more durable than the smooth leather on Sézane’s Milo bag for example. I was so tempted to order the mini during Black Friday but decided to hold off-I’m trying to be even more mindful with my purchases lately. It’s definitely on my wish list for the near future, though!

@ oh I definitely agree Mariana but I would go one step further and say that all manufacturing should be transparent these days. As a world we know better and big companies should do better!
I got the regular Clementine. She is perfect as a daily bag and I like the Pebbled leather for its durability. I also have a Sezane bag, the Claude in Black Croc (I wanted something with very obvious texture as a point of difference) The Clementine Mini in Oat has its edge glazing in the same oat colour which makes it look more expensive to me. I’m just not sure I would get the wear out of the mini (need to be able to fit my sunglasses, wallet, phone and I’m worried they won’t fit in the mini). I am also definitely being more mindful about my purchases. I’m going on a no buy next year (replacements only) so I can get back into the habit of using things. I grew up that way (my parents were frugal) but in my 20s when I started working I fell pray to the marketing machine. Boy would I have some advice for 25 year old me if I could time travel 🤣. Again, I appreciate your hard work on this video 💕

Interesting video, Mari! This sustainability topic is so complex, and so much of it is played on communication… it’s easy to get lost/confused. I really love the Sézane jumper on you, even though I get the disappointment when comparing the photo color to its color in real life.

    • @marianapereirae
      @marianapereirae  9 днів тому

Exactly, Lidia. I completely agree that material composition isn’t the only factor that matters when it comes to garments-the design of the piece is just as important. While I do think the Sézane sweater looks better and is made with higher-quality materials, my main goal was to provide information. We can’t overlook any brand, especially since not everyone can afford Sézane’s price tag.

So either my perception is disturbed or the camera is changing the colors...for me the sweater from Sézane looks much better and suits you better than the one from Arket. I don't think either the shade of blue from Arket or the cut look good on you. You look tidy and fresh in the Sézane sweater. 🤩

Thank you for the review! I really enjoy such detailed reviews of fashion. I have personally been kind of disappointed with both Items I bought from Sezane aswell, so I‘m not actually that surprised that you prefer the one from arket. (Maybe I should check out their sweaters on vinted)

I loved that you actually weighed the sweaters! I prefer the seam details of the Arket sweater, but I’m more drawn to the saturated color of the Sézane sweater. However, the lack of transparency about their production process is definitely a downside

Thanks for your comment, Ana! While I do think Sézane offers higher quality, not everyone can afford its price tag, so why not explore other options? I understand that Arket (and the H&M group as a whole) isn’t everyone’s favorite; it’s not mine either, but we also can’t ignore the lack of transparency in the fashion industry, even from brands we once blindly trusted.

I like both colors, but the fit of the Arket is really frumpy and unflattering. It doesn't hang nicely, it's too loose and baggy. The fabric wrinkles when you fold your arms, which is weird for a sweater and shows its bad quality. Sezane is the clear winner in all fronts, because you get what you paid for. The Medium size is fine on you, and it looks best untucked as you are short waisted.

Thank you for your comment! I also prefer the quality of the Sézane sweater. The idea behind this video wasn’t just to try on the two sweaters but to provide a qualitative and quantitative comparison, especially since both are made of responsible wool. I understand that Arket isn’t everyone’s favorite, but making this video opened my eyes to the importance of not being loyal to just one brand. While Sézane does offer higher-quality pieces compared to high-street brands, their growing lack of transparency has started to bother me. So, why not explore what else is out there-especially options that don’t break the bank? :) I know there are other great knitwear brands like Totême, but let’s be honest-not everyone can afford a €300+ sweater. I hope you found the video informative!

@@marianapereirae I appreciate your comparison video. I had been curious about Arket clothing, too bad the quality isn't there. I only have a few Sezane pieces, but they are good quality. I don't buy clothes often, so when I introduce a new piece it needs to be good quality to last a few years. I don't believe for a second Arket is transparent about their sourcing, or practices, it's just marketing. In the end, all brands are corrupted by money and greed.

But Sezane ships to the US. ARket does not, even though H&M, Cos, and Stories do ship here. Hmmm....

Thank you for your comment! I completely understand your point. I chose the Arket sweater because it looks so similar to the Sézane one. I’ll definitely keep in mind brands that ship to the U.S. for future videos :)

Arket sweater doesn’t drape well, looks cheap and the fit is not very flattering. Sezane sweater suits you very well . In this case you get what you paid for

    • @marianapereirae

Surprisingly, I preferred the shape of the Arket sweater-maybe because I like an oversized fit paired with a lighter fabric. That said, Sézane's yak wool definitely feels more luxurious and of better quality! The idea behind this video wasn’t just to try on the two sweaters but also to provide a qualitative and quantitative comparison, especially since both are made of responsible wool. I understand that Arket isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but making this video opened my eyes to the importance of not being loyal to just one brand. While Sézane does offer higher-quality pieces compared to high-street brands, their growing lack of transparency has started to bother me. So, why not explore what else is out there-especially options that don’t break the bank? :) I know there are other reasonably priced knitwear brands like Totême, but let’s be honest-not everyone can afford a €300+ sweater. I hope you found the video informative!

The sweater does not look like Sezane at all, I thought it was HM or something like that. It does look cheap, what is happening with sezane?? I dont like both because of the quality 😢😢😢

Sézane's yak wool definitely feels more luxurious than Arket’s, but I just didn’t like the design of the Maurice sweater at all. As you said, it looks like something you could buy from H&M for a fraction of the price. Of course, this is purely based on the look-we’re not factoring in material composition, sustainability, etc. Thanks for the comment!
