Great video.
The afterimage can be cleared by 'nuking'. Just run the shutter while covering the lens with the lens cover.
Also, infrared light (heat photons) don't travel through glass very well, which is why they use a germanium lens instead of regular glass.
Very clear images. Thanks.
Thank you for the professional detailed explanation!!😄
I would like to try ‘Nuking’ next time afterimages appear!
In the process of using the thermal imager, you will definitely find that when the thermal image is taken, sometimes it will freeze and the thermal imager will make a clicking sound. There is no need to panic at this time. It is performing non-uniformity correction (NUC). ),Why is this so?
Non-uniformity correction (NUC) is to adjust for small detector drift that occurs when the scene and environment change. Under normal circumstances, the thermal imager's own heat will interfere with its temperature readings. In order to improve accuracy, the thermal imager will measure the infrared radiation of its own optics, and then adjust the image based on these readings. NUC adjusts the gain and offset for each pixel to generate higher quality and more accurate images.
During the NUC process, the thermal imager shutter falls between the optics and the detector, making a clicking sound, instantly freezing the image stream. The shutter serves as a plane reference source for the detector to calibrate itself and thermally stabilize.
This situation often occurs in uncooled thermal imaging cameras, but it also occasionally occurs in cooled thermal imaging cameras. It is also called FFC (Flat Field Correction).
When will the thermal imager execute NUC?
At the initial startup, the thermal imager will frequently execute NUC. As the thermal imager heats up and reaches a stable operating temperature, NUC will become less frequent. Although you can get the thermal image in about 20 seconds after turning on the camera, most thermal imagers require at least 20 minutes of warm-up time, in a stable environment, with the best temperature measurement accuracy.
The thermal imager will automatically perform a NUC, but you can also manually use the NUC function before measuring temperature or taking key images. This will help ensure the best accuracy.
How to precisely control the occurrence of NUC?
As mentioned above, NUC is very important for improving temperature readings. Without NUC, you may get unstable temperature readings. NUC cannot be disabled on most handheld thermal imaging cameras, but on most automation and scientific equipment, NUC can be set from automatic mode to manual mode. This will allow you to precisely control the time for the thermal imager to execute NUC through software or hardware signals.
The key to implementing NUC
Take the manual control of the non-uniformity correction (NUC) in FLIR A35 and A65 as an example. Two factors are considered during execution:
1. When the thermal imager executes NUC, all other commands are forbidden
This is because the NUC needs to use the raw video output from the sensor to calculate the per-pixel offset correction. In order to calculate the offset correctly, all commands must be blocked during its operation, otherwise the calculation may be affected and the NUC lookup table can be loaded correctly.
2. How to control the length of NUC
In the high-gain operating mode, when the thermal imager’s core is heated or cooled to approximately 0°C, 40°C, or 65°C, “long NUC operation is required. For example, if the core power is energized at -10°C and then heated to +10°C, long NUC is required. "Long NUC" (~0.5 s) operation is approximately 0.1 s longer than normal "Short NUC" (~0.4 s) operation, and allows the core to automatically load a calibration suitable for the current operating temperature range In addition, when switching between high-gain and low-gain modes, a long NUC must be executed to load the gain switch to complete the new calibration required.
The host system does not need to monitor the above conditions, because the core has a set of NUC signs that will identify when a long or short NUC is needed, unless the thermal imager is in manual NUC mode. In the latter case, a NUC command will be sent as described above .
Thanks for the detailed information!!
Is it a quote from some site?🤔
I understood that calibration is necessary for a thermal camera😊
If I use Is the HT-301 module is it possible to set it to manual mode with computer software if I want to control when the NUC occurs?
@@BikeFunJapan necessary but not every 15 sec freeze, this is QC rubbish
Released shutter on every 10 sec is not problem, that's normal on most of the thermal cameras
Damn solid Footage... Didnt know how the exhaust of an commercial airplane looks like, amazing...
Made also an Video, not as good, but there is also interresting stuff, make an second one with this Setup please.
Im in work with the best camera smartphones at the moment.
And again, solid work!
Stay save!
Thank you for your comment!!☺️
You also have the HT-301!
I think there is still a lot of material for thermal video like this, so I would like to shoot a similar video someday🤔
very helpful info's thx for sharing
Good video thank you mu friend.
I bought mine on Amazon for the same price (USA), it should arrive later today, I plan to use it for home security as I live in a wooded area where someone entering at night should be plenty visible against the background. I see you took your videos in cold weather and the people in the background light up like a Christmas tree. That's exactly what I'm looking for. Were you able to operate the camera for long periods of time? Or did you need to let it cool down after a while? Also did you need to adjust the focus frequently?
Thank you for your comment!!😊
In my use only run it for about 10 minutes at the maximum. It is unclear what effect the camera will have if it is used for a long time🤔
However, heat generation usually has an adverse effect on the camera, so if you are going to operate for a long time, you should take measures to dissipate heat like put heatsink.
The focus of HT-301 is manual focus. However, unlike DLSR lenses, it turns easily with a small amount of force. If you want to operate at the same focus distance, I think it is better to fix it with tape so that it cannot be turned.
Great review with details.. did you manage to fix the shutter issue?
Thank you for your comment!!☺️
About the shutter hasn't been resolved yet ...🥲
@@BikeFunJapan Did you try the latest app available in Hti official page ( hti-instrument.com/products/ht-301-mobile-phone-thermal-imager ) >> APP DOWNLOAD LINK(02/26/2021 UPLOAD)>> click to download
That's not an issue. It's called a NUC and many thermal cameras have to use it to calibrate the microbolometer.
Thank you for your follow-up comments. With the latest app, this shutter frequency has decreased and it has become very comfortable☺️
Hey lovely in-depth video and testing. What Focal length were you using to match the Thermal Camera View?
Thank you for your comment!!☺️
Since the aspect ratios of the thermal camera and the visible light camera (RX100M6) are different, it is not possible to unify them unconditionally, but I think the focal length of this thermal camera is about 50 mm. In this video, the visible light video (RX100M6) shot for comparison is shot at a focal length of 50 mm or wider, and I matched the fov to the thermal camera's when I editting.
@@BikeFunJapan Thank you.The Info I've been seeing it was seeming to be closer to 70mm Lens I guess that's where the Aspect Ratios throw it off
The shutter passes in front of the sensor to calibrate the temperature
The frequency of infrared used in thermal imaging cannot pass through glass this is why glass is not used in the lens assembly but germanium amongst other materials
Thank you for the explanation!! Infrared rays are very interesting!😊
The freezing of the image because of the shutter is because a sensitive IR camera like this one needs to calibrate once in a while. If it doesn't do that ghosting will appear. I wonder how fragile the shutter is. It's a mechanical thing so it can fail over time.
Thank you for the detailed explanation!!😄
Oh, really!
Certainly, the durability of the mechanical part is a concern ...🤔
6:34 Wow, the blade tips actually heated up slightly because of the air resistance!
You’re right!😮
its rather light reflections
@@xmesaj2 No, it is clear that that blades actually heated up only after spinning that fast. It makes sense that the tips are the hottest because they have the highest speed. Keep in mind that is just a few degrees above room temperature, so you couldn't even feel it.
It is great to have such high framerate! I wish it had a non freeze mode so it can be used as a security cam where no precise temp measurements are needed. Or as a night vision for car, drone etc
Indeed!😮
When I used a new app, the freeze disappeared (freeze occurs for a while after startup)☺️
@@BikeFunJapan sorry by freeze you mean the shutter release? Btw AMAZING review you're a pro, i like the style
@@Fedreal_Bureau_Of_Investigaton Oh, that's right. It means shutter😅
Thank you!!😊
Is there a way to have the shutter off so that it doesn't stop?
With the latest app, wait a few minutes after startup, wait for the temperature of the camera to stabilize, and shoot, the forced shutter has almost disappeared🤗
i know why the shutter is automatic. it is to calibrate the sensor to help keep image quality good. it is very common with these type of camera. i do not know if you can disable it.
Thank you for your comment!!😊 I learned the same thing in another comment. However, when I updated the app, the shutter was almost gone😃
Love japan
Thank you!!😊
Are you able to manual adjust and set the min and max temperature scale the camera sees in either of the apps?
I tried using Hti for the first time in a long time😅
With the genuine app, you can switch between two types of detection range. (-20 ℃ / 120 ℃) (120 ℃ / 400 ℃)
However, within that setting range, it is automatically color-mapped to the detected minimum and maximum temperature ranges🤔
The Therm Viewer app allows you to manually set -49 ° C / 200 ° C, but if you set this range, the image will often be almost monochromatic and unrecognizable.
@@BikeFunJapan ah, so you don't have the ability to manually narrow the the temperature range with the therm viewer app?
I will buy it for rescue victims eartquake
What a great decision!!👍
I don't have an android phone, I have an iphone. Is it possible to adapt? If not, will it work with a cheap/used android based tablet? I'm assuming it doesn't require cell service to use, correct?
Thank you for your comment☺️
I only had an iPhone, so I bought an android phone for this😅
If the tablet can use the android app, the camera will probably work on the tablet. Of course, telephone sim is not required.
@@BikeFunJapan TY! Looks like I need to find a used android phone or tablet... At least I could the tablet for other things.
@@BikeFunJapan have you tried seeing if it will connect with the iPhone since owning it?
Dear Friend Hti 301 is the better than infiray t3? Do you think about it? Agree?
It looks like the InfiRay T3 has multiple models🧐
www.infiray.com/products/t3-series-lwir-detector-thermal-module.html
I think the comparison target with Hti TH-301 is InfiRay T3-317.
As far as the specs go, I think they use the same sensor. Maybe one or the other is an OEM product??🤔
So I'm assuming it's about the same.😅
Hello
Do you have a sample report?
Thank you very much
What is a sample report?🤔
Glass is not transparent for IR spectrum...
Is the shutter bug fixed by now?
I tried new version app and then, the shutter count be a few!😄
But a moment about 1 min after power on, shutter will do some times.
Does HTI use the detector of InfiRay?
There is no InfiRay notation on the housing, so I do not know anything...😅
Nope. I have the Infiray T3 same specs but the sensor technology is totally different...
Is that work on the dark place?
Yes.
This camera visualizes temperature, not visible light🧐
An environment with a variety of temperature distributions will produce more interesting images☺️
On the genuine app can you record longer than 40 seconds?
Yes, you can shoot for 40 seconds or more. Moreover, with the latest app that can be downloaded from the official website, the frequency of shutters has decreased considerably!😁
@@BikeFunJapan Thanks for the reply, with the decreased shutter now, does that mean that it doesn't glitched out now?
Yes, that's right. The footage taken with the latest App is used in ↓, so please have a look if you like.
ua-cam.com/video/UyyvWSAyRVI/v-deo.html
How far away will it be able to see aircrafts in the sky?
First, there is as an influencing factor, camera resolution and subject size, and attenuation by air.
I think it's probably until to 500m🤔
Why it keeps making the clicking noise and freezing every couple of sec????
I heard from this comment section, Thermal cameras are generally like that🧐
However, after updating the app, the frequency of the shutter has decreased considerably☺️
Why your lens can be turned away?
I'm sorry, what do you mean??🤔
What is "Oppo Reno A" ?
Thank you for your comment☺️
"Oppo Reno A" is an android smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer "Oppo".

勉強になります!
Seek Thermal CompactPro has 15 fps.
According to the official website, Seek Thermal Compact Pro is 9fps🧐
www.thermal.com/compact-series.html
< 9 Hz Frame Rate
very high resolution
Yes😁
Cheap?
Relatively ...😅
Cheap? It's over $700! It's cheap... for a thermal camera with those specs. But cheap in general? God no!
Very disappointing about the image freezing issue. To see it run so smoothly and then stop every few seconds just hurts my heart. There's another thermal camera module like this by another manufacturer which is slightly low rez, but runs at 25fps with no pausing, ever.
Thank you for your comment!!
To be honest, it's very expensive for me😅
In the freeze problem, I'm little curious about the another camera you tell. But since I don't use thermal camera very often, so I think I don't buy the one😅
Not cheap 😮
Actually, yes…😅
Define cheap.
terrible freezing, for the price tag??)))
