Happy New Year! Thank you everyone for helping me reach my goal of 1000 subscribers. I'm looking forward to seeing how this channel grows by the end of 2022! All the best everyone and happy bikepacking!
Just came across your channell, simply stunning cinematography. A lovely peacfull way to start a sunday morning. youve got another subscriber. Thank you.
Beautiful cinematography and really engaging storytelling. Thank you for sharing this adventure with us. I love winter riding, so winter bikepacking is something I'd like to do one day.
Thanks for watching Trevor! I’ve not been to Oban on that but of the network yet. Would you say it’s worth doing just that stretch from Oban to Fort William? Thanks! :)
Why do our railways grind to a halt when the roads are open? Just watch a video of winter trains in Norway for how they deal with it. What a brilliant video- truly great quality.
Thanks for your suggestion Jane. I don’t like putting it at the beginning or intermittently throughout the film, because I’m focusing on the scenery and cinematic side of things. The behind the scenes section at the end is there for people who’d like to know more about the route and highlights etc. Thanks for watching 👍
I thoroughly enjoyed this latest adventure - thank you! Your videos are ALL brilliant - and I don't even enjoy biking very much!! 😀 Can't wait for the next instalment.
I found you through the UA-cam Creators Hub Podcast. I have to say that these videos are amazing. I applaud your use of audio to make smooth transitions. Your shots are really artistic and polished too. I look forward to seeing your channel as it grows. It's only a matter of time before you are able to do this full-time like you desire. Probably won't be very long at all with this type of quality
Fantastic video! We've been watching bikepacking/adventure cycling videos for over 5 years. Yours was excellent and a welcome surprise on my "recommended" UA-cam videos. I have subscribed and shared the video. Content creators such as yourself deserve more recognition! Thank you for making these!
Another beautifully filmed video Tom. Gorgeous drone footage and great composition. That was a very courageous ride. I am not sure if I would be up to doing it alone. You are clearly very experienced. Awesome video, thank you!
This is a great video! I miss being on the road bike packing a lot at the moment, need to get back to Scotland. Well done on a great trip and video and excellent camping in those conditions.
Cheers Bill! I use Musicbed for all my music, so in short - I don’t know what the tracks are without going back into my edit! Sorry! Thanks for watching!
I'm a new viewer to your channel and this is a brilliant video. Great footage and I really like the explanation section where you go through all the details at the end. Cheers
Yeah got to admit it wasn’t comfy… I actually have another reclining seat booked on a sleeper train in January… 🤦♂️ Looking into an upgrade as we speak
Stunning, thank you - inspirational too. I've driven it, but would love to ride it. The kit links also really helpful. Just wondering about the bike you use - and the tyres?
Thanks very much! I brought the kindling with me from home. Made the bike rather heavy but there was no way I’d get usable wood in the damp Scottish winter woodland. 👍
i had planned to do NC500 in a car mid nov but had to postpone it due to promise of artic blast. instead i did 1/4 of the NC500 in my car staying overnight at John o Groats
Sounds great! Probably sensible to give some of it a miss. I cycled up there when I did Land’s end to John O’Groats and it was very cold and remote in June!
Thanks Neville! It was a great experience. Not really! I have a lot of reflective strips on my clothes and bags, and lights and reflectors on the bike so I feel very safe. I usually have a head torch in the bag too for added safety :)
Great filming and editing! Loved the mix of camera angles, B roll, fly by shots and just enough drone. I need to learn to edit my videos down a bit! This motivates me to finally get a drone in 2022 - what drone do you have, and what tripod do you use? A small, lightweight one?
Fyi, your amazon links don't work for me - just end up redirecting to the homepage. Your video route is useful as I'm considering the reverse next year and your description of the route/scenary makes it more tempting - shame 78 was blocked for you. I used the sleeper train to Fort William with my son (used the cabin and I slept fine). Though the issue is you have to get up around 4/5 ish at Edinburgh to move your bike from one bike carriage to another bike carriage (took about 40 mins waiting on the platform whilst they shunted stuff around) - another gotcha with the sleeper and one I didn't realised until I was told by chance when putting it on (they were assuming I knew...)
Thanks Terry, not sure why they don’t work for you. Maybe it’s your browser? That’s good to know re the train to Fort William! Not the best thought out system is it? 😂
Was checking out your gear list, I used the same sleeping bag for nc500 in June, weather was pretty warm though. Do you use this one in winter and how was it? Cheers
Awesome! NC500 is on my long list of places to bikepack! I actually use a thinner sleeping bag in summer and this is my “other seasons” bag. I just use a thermal sleeping bag liner inside it for extra warmth but it’s been great in the freezing conditions. Great bag! Cheers :)
Hi Ed, I carried the kindling with me as it was technically just a one nighter. There were broken dead branches around the camp spot I used as well but the kindling was there to get it going 👍
Good question! On my gravel bike I use Ultegra SPDs but on this bike I use Shimano M424 spds. Allows me to use the bike for general riding too if needs be 👍
Great film/documentary, love the music. I (yorkshire born) cycled ncn78 in Sept 2021 after bike packing Hebridean Way in 2 days. Breakfast in Ullapool, lunch in Inverness with dinner in ft.william. Rather enjoyed ncn78, great views over lochness. In my opinion train companies give up too easy.
Sounds awesome! Is Yorkshire folk are made of stern stuff. 😂 The OHW is on my to do list in 2022. Really looking forward to doing that. Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed your vlog until you lit the fire please don’t light fires in Scotland they scar the landscape big time and not good for environment. You were lucky with the weather overall enjoyed your short production.
Thanks! I know fires aren’t good for the environment. There’s always a fire pit dug out there and I did my best to leave no trace. At -6 I needed some way of keeping warm. Thanks for watching!
Hope that fire was in a designated spot, or on a beach - and that you tidied it up after yourself. Fires can smoulder below the surface even if you think you put it out, and spread along roots and so on, causing wildfires (yes, even in Scotland). Please read the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. We have the right to roam (and by extension, camp) up here, but irresponsible behaviour (such as camp fires, no matter time of year) can and does ruin it for the rest of us - just look at the camping bans around Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. I'm glad you're promoting the beauty of Scotland, but please don't give the wrong message to your thousands of viewers. You've got an audience, so you've got the responsibilty that comes with that!
Happy New Year! Thank you everyone for helping me reach my goal of 1000 subscribers. I'm looking forward to seeing how this channel grows by the end of 2022! All the best everyone and happy bikepacking!
Beautifully shot! The music choices here are just amplfy the scenery in a goregous way. Well done!
Cheers mate! Thanks for watching! Many more similar films on my channel if you’re interested :)
Absolutely beautiful, and awesome inspiring.
Thanks very much Jeanette! :)
Amazed how you overcame all the difficulties that were put in your way still with a smile!
Thanks Paul! I try to be positive. Definitely wasn’t smiling when I saw those trees though 😂 Thanks for watching!
Amazing film production Buddy..Your channel deserves more love.. Beautiful video.💗
Thanks very much! Here’s hoping 🤞 😅
Awesome scenery and I loved the music. Well done, thank you!
Thanks very much! :)
That’s how to spend a weekend! Some fabulous drone footage!
Absolutely! Better than watching TV! 😂 thanks for watching :)
Just came across your channell, simply stunning cinematography. A lovely peacfull way to start a sunday morning. youve got another subscriber. Thank you.
Thanks a lot Simon! Appreciate you subscribing :)
Some heavenly filmmaking in contrast to what were no doubt not always heavenly bikepacking conditions 👍
Thanks Dominic! Yeah that’s Scotland in winter for you. 😂
Art, soul and passion. I feel nature charged. Thank you so much.
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Great video and superb choice of music.
Thanks Marc! Thanks for watching :)
A beautifully made film have really enjoyed your films this year. Many thanks Neil
Thanks very much Neil!
Beautiful cinematography and really engaging storytelling. Thank you for sharing this adventure with us. I love winter riding, so winter bikepacking is something I'd like to do one day.
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it. You definitely should give it a go. It’s a bit daunting at first but really enjoyable. Cheers!
Just found this. Beautifully shot, and the drone footage is fantastic.
Thanks very much! If you like this you’ll probably like my two most recent films too! Let me know your thoughts :) all the best!
Excellent video! Just loved the drone coverage and overall production
Thanks a lot Wayne! Really appreciate it :)
Great video and thanks for sharing, we rode from Oban -Fort William-Inverness in September. It’s truly stunning. Look forward to your next adventures.
Thanks for watching Trevor! I’ve not been to Oban on that but of the network yet. Would you say it’s worth doing just that stretch from Oban to Fort William? Thanks! :)
Beautiful film! Just stunning! Makes me want to plan a winter bikepacking trip near me soon. Thank you.
Thank you very much! Definitely go and do it! It’s a great experience. Thanks!
Why do our railways grind to a halt when the roads are open? Just watch a video of winter trains in Norway for how they deal with it. What a brilliant video- truly great quality.
Thanks very much Derek! Appreciate it :) yes they’re not reliable at all in wintry conditions…
Beautiful production
Thanks! :)
Really good video. I once ran the loch ness marathon up that way.
Amazing! That looks like a great day out! Thanks for watching :)
Lovely film, can we have maps and where you are in the next one please. It would help place the fantastic scenery and add context.
Just seen the overview bit, that's what I was thinking off. Needs to be at the start and for each section. Thanks

Thanks Annette! Sorry only just seen this! Thanks for watching 😀
Great video and had a look at the rest of the channel and love the content 👍
Thanks Fraser! Thanks for watching! Appreciate it :)

this trip is wild! you ride into peril!
Haha thanks! Riding into peril. I like it.
Thanks so much Cheryl! Appreciate your support :) Many more films on the way in 2022! All the best :)
Nicely produced, the drone work was great , especially the bits where you could see you in the shot. Thanks for making.
Thanks very much! Appreciate it :)
Great video 👍
Cheers Stewart 👍
Another beautifully filmed video Tom. Gorgeous drone footage and great composition. That was a very courageous ride. I am not sure if I would be up to doing it alone. You are clearly very experienced. Awesome video, thank you!
Thanks again Dave, glad you enjoyed it. Appreciate the comment. 👍
This is a great video! I miss being on the road bike packing a lot at the moment, need to get back to Scotland. Well done on a great trip and video and excellent camping in those conditions.
Thanks very much! Yes it’s that time of year where we all really miss the longer days! Not too long to wait though. Thanks for watching :)
Great video and well produced. A really good watch, keep it up.
Thanks again James! Appreciate the nice comments :)
Beautiful scenery 😃 great video 👍🏻

Interesting seeing the Foyers route.
It’s a good one! Thanks for watching :)
thanks mate hope to make use of this soon
Definitely worth a check out!
Great video and inspiration.
Thanks Mark! Many more on the way 😊
Hi there, fantastic video, can you tell me what music tracks you used please.
Cheers Bill! I use Musicbed for all my music, so in short - I don’t know what the tracks are without going back into my edit! Sorry! Thanks for watching!

Thanks very much! And welcome to the channel! 😊
Such terrible train luck you have, is it always so bad?
Thank you for your lovely video. It brightened my day!
Thanks again Angela, the trains are just naturally bad… Hopefully I’m not cursed 😂 Thanks for watching! :)
Great work, dude. Keep it up!
Thanks again Colin! Thanks for watching :)
Just heard your podcast episode with dusty . Good stuff man . Keep at it
Thanks mate! Appreciate you leaving a comment :)
You did good!
Thanks very much!
Path on the north shore is well worth a visit, all off road double track.
Which Loch do you mean?
Night spent on that recliner seat sounds like a nightmare. It never feels good the next day
Yeah got to admit it wasn’t comfy… I actually have another reclining seat booked on a sleeper train in January… 🤦♂️ Looking into an upgrade as we speak
Very well done! Cheers
Thanks very much! :)
Beautiful. Subscribed.
Thanks for watching and thanks for subscribing! :)
Sold my Nemo on eBay , miss it , great tent
It’s awesome. I’m almost converted completely off using bivvy bags now 😂
Wow! Thank you.
Thanks very much for watching! :)
Amazing 🫶love it
Thanks Monica!
Stunning, thank you - inspirational too. I've driven it, but would love to ride it. The kit links also really helpful. Just wondering about the bike you use - and the tyres?
Sorry - just found this!: ua-cam.com/video/nrRvRMf2ue8/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching! No problem! The tyres are Continental Gravel Kings I think! 2.3s but can run up to 3 inches on the Charge Cooker :)
Are you planning to do Bikepacking tour or stick with traditional cycle touring setup for you next video
Not sure what you mean! 😅
Great video and beautifully shot.
Where did you get the perfectly cut, split wood your first night out? Are you carrying a saw and splitting knife?
Thanks very much! I brought the kindling with me from home. Made the bike rather heavy but there was no way I’d get usable wood in the damp Scottish winter woodland. 👍
6:40 just wow!!!
Thanks! It was nice to end the day with a sunset like that! ☀️
i had planned to do NC500 in a car mid nov but had to postpone it due to promise of artic blast. instead i did 1/4 of the NC500 in my car staying overnight at John o Groats

Hi! 👋🏻 What is your bicycle? 🚲 It seems nice.
Hi! It’s a Charge Cooker 1. It’s great for the price!
Great cinematography and sound. Bravo from Greece. What exactly is your bike ?
Thanks very much my friend! Would love to do some riding out your way! It’s a 2016 Charge Cooker 1 plus bike 👍
@@Cycling366 thanks for the answer. Wish you long rides...
Cycle camping in winter is epic stuff! Well done. Do you not feel a bit vulnerable in black cycling kit?
Thanks Neville! It was a great experience. Not really! I have a lot of reflective strips on my clothes and bags, and lights and reflectors on the bike so I feel very safe. I usually have a head torch in the bag too for added safety :)
GoPro now do a better battery for working in the cold for GoPro 9 and 10
Yes - they’re still not great though! It’s just not insulated enough so as all batteries do in cold temperatures they just drain quickly…
Great filming and editing! Loved the mix of camera angles, B roll, fly by shots and just enough drone. I need to learn to edit my videos down a bit! This motivates me to finally get a drone in 2022 - what drone do you have, and what tripod do you use? A small, lightweight one?
Ah I see the drone on your website!
Cheers! My tripod is also on there. It’s a cheap and cheerful lightweight collapsible one that I attach a Joby Ball head to. Works like a charm!
Fyi, your amazon links don't work for me - just end up redirecting to the homepage.

Not sure about an inner-first pitching tent for Scotland...
The Nemo Hornet is a beast. No issues there!
Was checking out your gear list, I used the same sleeping bag for nc500 in June, weather was pretty warm though. Do you use this one in winter and how was it? Cheers

Where's the firewood from if you're wild camping? Do you carry an axe to chop it yourself?
Hi Ed, I carried the kindling with me as it was technically just a one nighter. There were broken dead branches around the camp spot I used as well but the kindling was there to get it going 👍
Having said that, we do have a chain saw (a literal one, not a petrol powered one 😂) that we take with us to saw off wood when needed
@@Cycling366 oh wow! Good effort to carry wood with you. Thanks for the reply
what pedals are you using? Are they a flat pedal with a shimano spd?
Good question! On my gravel bike I use Ultegra SPDs but on this bike I use Shimano M424 spds. Allows me to use the bike for general riding too if needs be 👍
How did you fall with the ice??
How didn’t I fall? I went steady 😅
Great film/documentary, love the music.

As mentioned on other comments and in the video, it was on a designated fire pit that had been dug out and lined with rocks. 👍
Section between drumnadroichit and invermoriston is horrific on a fully loaded touring bike, condition of path not suitable for carrying any weight
I didn’t go that way so can’t comment!
Some information as your travelling not talk about it when your in a hotel
Thanks mate but that’s not my style - the hotel is my house 😂
