Pro vs Cons from my perspective: 1) I would regard the Elantra's wet DCT to be superior performance wise, though I like that the auto trans in the ecoboost is the same as the V8 and hence has high torque capacity (no worry when installing ford performance pack engine tunes). 2) S550 chassis is a dedicated solid platform built to handle V8 power but it is 8 years old and suffers a bit from cost cutting (eg: rental car fleet supply). Elantra N is built on a shared compact platform which intrinsically has a great deal of cost cutting, but it is a new generation platform launched this year, like you mentioned. 3) Trac-lok clutch diff in the non-PP mustang is slip based and is not active in left to right torque transfer until wheel speed difference beyond a tolerance happens. The e-LSD is computer controlled in the elantra and seems to be designed for pro-active power transfer to the outer wheel. 4) Rwd>Fwd in some high yaw rate cases, though through most fast sweepers only weight distribution and tire sizes matter mostly. 5) Rwd layout usually also has a better front-rear weight distribution (52:48 F/R for the light ecoboost, not sure about the elantra N) 6) Elantra N gets adaptive damping suspension and an active exhaust, which I would not tick the box for the PP on the mustang. 7) Elantra N can be an only-car with a spare set of all-season tires. 8) N has a lower curb weight by 200 lb or more I believe, ecoboost has a slight power advantage, all-in-all the acceleration and price should be comparable which is why I started comparing them in the first place!

Thanks for watching! It really will come down to how Honda prices the new Type R and what they do performance-wise. But I can't imagine them dropping the price 5k to compete directly with the Elantra N, and if they do a carry-over powertrain, the Elantra will almost certainly be the better performance bargain and honestly be more fun regardless of price.

I keep reading on how harsh the Veloster N is Normal mode so I'm wondering how the Elantra compares. I need something that won't shatter my old bones when I just need to go to the grocery store.
It felt totally smooth in normal mode, I give a few thoughts about that in my Kona review as well. No complaints, and the programming seems a little smarter than the Veloster from my limited experience. No waiting for a downshift like I sometimes had in the Veloster.
Insaneeee yo I’m in love idk I’m thinking about trading in my 19 challenger rt for this Issa beast but this is more realiable and idk change it up a bit
Faster in what way? This car might be able to win from a complete stop because of the dual clutch transmission. But In nearly almost every other way the Type R is faster.
The performance is closer to Type R but this will likely be over 5k cheaper than a Type R and only a few grand more than an Si for a lot more performance.
Is Hyundai ever going to do anything with that weird circle, blank spot next to the gauges? One of the only things I don't like. And how does the Bose system sound compared to the Harmon Kardon in the Kona N?
I didn’t try it in this car and haven’t tested the Harmon Kardon in the Kona, but the Bose stereo in the regular Elantra I had for a week sounded pretty good for a compact car. Still a far cry from the awesome Bose stereo in the new Mazda3 though.
i don't understand how a 2 liter turbo sounds this much better than the type-r...like how is it possible? Even with an exhaust a type-r sounds nothing close to this good
I think with honda, the anti lag would cause increased wear on the turbo. Since they are known for reliability guess they didn't want to take the risk and hurt their reputation. It does suck that honda has become way more conservative than before, the Integra could have been cooler.
Haven't driven the new WRX yet (I will be next month) but compared to the current gen WRX, this feels a little quicker and a lot more fun than a stock WRX. Sharper handling too.
This makes me think why Honda doesn’t option these types of sportiness to their line ups. Yes they have the TYPE-R and the si, but there’s always something missing in both
Is the wheel width published anywhere? I imagine stock is 8 inch width. This is for all the SCCA Street Class nerds who obsess about this due to race rules.

The only thing that keeps me from wanting to buy a N model Elantra is that it's a front wheel drive. Why not some company would not offer a rear wheel drive performance sedan? I don't mind front wheel drive for normal driving, but if I'm going for performance, I would rather it be rear wheel drive. If front wheel drive is so spectacular, why isn't Nascar using yet? Rear wheel drive imagine in this vehicle would be so badass...!!! Not to mention to be a seperater in todays market.

Insaneeee yo I’m in love idk I’m thinking about trading in my 19 challenger rt for this Issa beast but this is more realiable and idk change it up a bit
How do I know this car is good? Matt's high pitch voice when pushing it.
Does the Spoiler come standard on the manual only? Or the automatic as well?
Spoiler comes on both.
Did you ever experience knocking that side bar with your hand while changing gears in the manual?
Is it faster than type R?
I think the DCT can make it close enough that it depends on Type R driver mod.
Yes
Faster in what way? This car might be able to win from a complete stop because of the dual clutch transmission. But In nearly almost every other way the Type R is faster.
Would this beat the 2022 Si?
You mean type R?
N competes against type R. It will be a lot more capable than Si.
The performance is closer to Type R but this will likely be over 5k cheaper than a Type R and only a few grand more than an Si for a lot more performance.
In reality is in between the SI and the Type R
Would it be a close race with the Type R?
How does it compare to your Bullitt?
I wanna know how the speakers are compared with a SI
Same😂 i have a 2003 elantra and the speakers are good as in that
Elantra N or Kia K5?? Which will you go for?
Is Hyundai ever going to do anything with that weird circle, blank spot next to the gauges? One of the only things I don't like. And how does the Bose system sound compared to the Harmon Kardon in the Kona N?
I didn’t try it in this car and haven’t tested the Harmon Kardon in the Kona, but the Bose stereo in the regular Elantra I had for a week sounded pretty good for a compact car. Still a far cry from the awesome Bose stereo in the new Mazda3 though.
what is the name of your watches on your wrist
great review
Manual and moon roof please!!
i don't understand how a 2 liter turbo sounds this much better than the type-r...like how is it possible? Even with an exhaust a type-r sounds nothing close to this good
Agreed, its has a great sound!
I think with honda, the anti lag would cause increased wear on the turbo. Since they are known for reliability guess they didn't want to take the risk and hurt their reputation.
It does suck that honda has become way more conservative than before, the Integra could have been cooler.
Matt how does it compare to WRX?
Haven't driven the new WRX yet (I will be next month) but compared to the current gen WRX, this feels a little quicker and a lot more fun than a stock WRX. Sharper handling too.
So, if you could only own one car, would you pick this Elantra N ??
In auto or manual 6 speed?
Really dig this Elantra
Does this car have heated steering wheel feature?
No heated steering wheel.
Would you consider this better than the Kia K5 GT?
Hey Matt, was it just as fun to drive as the Veloster N? Did you “feel” the longer wheelbase?
I suppose it felt a tiny bit bigger, but honestly with the extra power it was even more fun than the Veloster.
Jeeezzz I seen more videos of this car in the past 24hrs than commercials....every UA-camr in California?
I want to see a vs video of this against civic SI
Ok. I like it. But will it last as long as a Honda?
Looks like an N-joyable car
It’s between a new GTI and this! I’m a GTI fanboy so it’s going to tough but it’s getting easier haha
This makes me think why Honda doesn’t option these types of sportiness to their line ups. Yes they have the TYPE-R and the si, but there’s always something missing in both
Very disappointing no sunroof option with the 6 speed. Why would they do that?
I want one of these actually, manual
Is the wheel width published anywhere? I imagine stock is 8 inch width. This is for all the SCCA Street Class nerds who obsess about this due to race rules.
Unfortunately I don't know the answer, sorry!
@@MattMaranMotoring I found out it has 8” width wheels. Bummer I was hoping for 8.5 for autocross.
This is a modern srt4 right here. Probably not as fast , but still fun from the factory. Right seats, right noises. Might have to check this out once the "market adjustment " is gone.
Not as fast ?! Stock vs stock the EN blows away the SRT-4 !
@@patrickbilodeau3785 you think so? What the 1/4 mile. My srt4 was 13.7 all day. Stock
@@Emilthehun just wait when there's more EN's out there. Throw some drag tires in front and the DCT should be faster. Time will tell...
@@patrickbilodeau3785 I was genuinely interested in the 1/4 of this car. My srt4 was lightweight, and these modern cars are pretty heavy. I'm sure they will mod the sheet out of these , just like with Hondas and kia cars.
@@Emilthehun the aren't enough EL out in the wild yet...just wait and see, these cars will surprise many !
Imagine they add like a fun mode where the shifts are brutal like a single clutch Aventador.
noted I want the manual with the moonroof
I own a front wheel drive 2012 Hyundai Elantra and had it since it was new and don't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon.
Love this
The whole car looks pretty cool. The gigantic fake vent presence on the front end ruins it for me though.
