Agreed. They are the most cost affective to modify if you so choose. They also put out very good horsepower for the price they go for. In the 2500/3500 trucks specifically, I love the 5.7 hemi because it doesn’t have MDS, so it’s always a straight V8. As where the 6.4 hemi in the trucks have mds.

I been tryna tell people this ages but no one listens. Dodge restricted the 5.7l and squeezed the 6.4l for all it's got. In reality it's 345 vs 392, the gap is not that big it's .7l. That's like comparing a honda b18 and a k24 The stock hp gap is not that big and those are dohc engines.

The problem is this stuff isn’t cheap. Depending on what power you’re looking for you’re better off buying a scat or cat. The 5.7 is just for people who enjoy custom builds ❤
Did you not watch the whole video? Basically he's saying there's really no point in buying a scatpack because the engine is weak and will break. You will spend even more money on the 6.4 to get it strong enough to be boosted safely. Either go with a hellcat engine, or go with the 5.7 hemi. Leave the scatpack engine alone.
So far my build on my 300c . 3.09 LSD .220/330 hrt stage 3 cam kit . Ported eagle heads . 397 stroker kit . Hellcat injectors . Long tube headers . True dual exhaust with magnaflow performance mufflers without resonators . Mmx ported hellcat throttle body . Mmx hellcat supercharger adapter kit . Hellcat supercharger . 180 t stat . Diablo sport 93 octane/ custom tune TBH I'm just trying to be a sleeper idc if I can't outrun a cat I just want to shock people outside of Mopar because I know a lot of Chevy guys think that the 300s don't have v8s so I wanna have that sleeper status ....... even though my cam and exhaust might give it away lol😂
the scat pack 392 was made to be a boost off of the original 5.7 380 HP product. It (392) does not do well with higher RPM (past 6200) applications. The best option that I saw was a 6.1L off of a early Jeep Grand Cherokee (2008-2010) SRT that had simply a blower and injectors on it - made 600/600 (HP/TQ) and couldn't keep transfer cases and transmissions since the original 5 speed trans they had on those was weak..... As some of the earlier commenters also said - the early hemi (before MDS) was basically crippled - it could make 500 HP stock with the correct programming however to make it more reliable and streetable they "detuned" it to the 350 levels that you saw in stock form. Also isn't it interesting that it only had a compression ratio of 9.6:1 stock (ASKING FOR BOOST)......
Or to make it cheaper/easier, go ahead and get a 5.7 out of an 09-current hemi since they already have eagle heads. Trust me you can find them like candy.
@@erikbergstrom258 that’s easily fixed besides it’d take over 500 hp and some serious driving to break either one. Then supercharge or turbocharge and your good to go
From the standpoint that you can buy a 5.7 for less than a 6.4 and throw a supercharger onto it and have more HP than a 6.4 for less money, yeah, its better. If you want to go NA and try to match the 6.4 in power, not so much. Unfortunately the 5.7 doesn't handle boost as well as others though. So if you want to go for 4-didgit HP numbers, you're going to have to build the shit out of your engine to get there without it blowing up.
These 5.7 hemi engines are notorious for lifters seizing up due to oil starvation. Ultimately causing the camshaft lobes to have grooves in them. The reason for oil starvation is due to poor engineering by Dodge/Fiat. The camshaft sits to high inside the engine for oil to reach, especially during idle.
You nailed it. Mostly caused by engine idle. I've had a 2012 Ram HEMI with over 107,000 miles and it didn't tick. My 2017 Sport with 32,000 and over 150 idle hours ticks every time on start

BUT, you have to do hella shit to it to make it ridiculously faster. The 5.7’s have been around for ages now, they’re just choked out coming off the assembly lines. Because they’ve been around so long they have better mod support. There’s UA-camrs with R/T’s that have made some CRAZY power with probably half the mods than what a 6.4 would need to make the same insane #’s! Just my 2 cents…
Which 5.7 should you get if you want the Charger or Challenger? Is there a specific year? Because I want a face lifted version
@@jmhellison I have a 2018 Charger R/T. I wanted the extra 2 doors. It totally depends on what your preference is. The ChalIenger is like 300 lbs lighter though. I just wanted a badass daily V8 that I will eventually put work into mod wise. I have a 6.4 intake manifold that I still have to port out that I eventually want to swap the 5.7 intake for. Got a shopping list and I’m gathering parts as time goes by a bit to do most of the work myself.
You don’t have to do a tremendous amount of things to a 6.4. Literally buy the drop in forged piston and rods, a super charger, a more aggressive cam is optional the stock one is fine and you’re good to go. That should be good enough to get you in the ballpark of 700 whp safely before you have to do trans work. Then you can port the heads and add even more air with different air boxes and yeah 1000 hp isn’t hard to obtain
@@albanybestdrumline wouldn’t you need to lower the compression before adding the blower?
Thank you for this video bro because I'm tired of having this argument with people. 🎯💯💯👏🏽💪🏾

I love the body style of the old srt8 chargers, if I had money that would be one of my project cars and this would be a reference video for me lol
I’ve always had this idea in my head.
Mildly tuned 5.7 with the new Trx drive train would be a recipe for fun since ur not gonna pass the 400 hp mark your axles, transfer case and transmission aré overbuilt and would never be push to the limit 4wd donuts 🍩 would look amazing 🤩

Finally I heard complaints to 5.7 hemi 🤣🤣 everyone since 6.4 came was modifying it and ignoring 5.7

That’s crazy I was dead about to ask you to speak on the 5.7
I’m in the process of building my 5.7
I been preaching this since high school everybody thought my 300 wasn't stock. I just let em think behind me in the dust
350s as a WHOLE are very iconic, and for good reason. The fact that it's a HEMI makes it even better; the aged, tried and true powerhouse, is this American staple 🔥.

My 2015 2500 has MDS with the 5.7
05-07 Chrysler 300c has mds
@@ebabdbgbbbebbluesman6115 no it doesn’t. I promise you. The heavy duty 5.7 hemi didn’t have MDS.

I been tryna tell people this ages but no one listens.
Dodge restricted the 5.7l and squeezed the 6.4l for all it's got. In reality it's 345 vs 392, the gap is not that big it's .7l. That's like comparing a honda b18 and a k24
The stock hp gap is not that big and those are dohc engines.

I used to wonder why people didn't boost the 6.4, or why engines blow up in general. Now I know why lol some power trains can't handle the boost
The ring lands on 6.4’s are to tight; the extra heat from boost will cause them to overheat, and once they overheat they will pop rings & pistons.
That awesome that he mentioned Richard Holdener & MMX.

My man speaking the truth. That's how it always is ...they make it right the first time and don't take that package to the limit and drop it for the next new idea that ain't nothin special. Keep going my Dawg. Yo videos only gon get bigger and better
@@Eastsidegeorgiaboy it always struck me as a boring big block gasser truck engine

.220/330 hrt stage 3 cam kit

The 6.1 is the real forgotten goat in the hemi lineup
Yessir!!!!!!!!!
the scat pack 392 was made to be a boost off of the original 5.7 380 HP product.
Were early hemis blowing transmissions like nothing ??
Finally found you ! A none bias guy who calls out how good a engine can be regardless of the platform !
Been seeing your reels for months but i subbed after this one. You’re knowledgeable. I need you. Lol
Or to make it cheaper/easier, go ahead and get a 5.7 out of an 09-current hemi since they already have eagle heads. Trust me you can find them like candy.
if i remember correctly the crank is or rods or something is weaker in the new ones
@@erikbergstrom258 that’s easily fixed besides it’d take over 500 hp and some serious driving to break either one. Then supercharge or turbocharge and your good to go

I see that boy like anime 👀. Good man right there 👌🏾
From the standpoint that you can buy a 5.7 for less than a 6.4 and throw a supercharger onto it and have more HP than a 6.4 for less money, yeah, its better. If you want to go NA and try to match the 6.4 in power, not so much. Unfortunately the 5.7 doesn't handle boost as well as others though. So if you want to go for 4-didgit HP numbers, you're going to have to build the shit out of your engine to get there without it blowing up.
This guy knows his stuff
These 5.7 hemi engines are notorious for lifters seizing up due to oil starvation. Ultimately causing the camshaft lobes to have grooves in them. The reason for oil starvation is due to poor engineering by Dodge/Fiat. The camshaft sits to high inside the engine for oil to reach, especially during idle.
I'm glad somebody said it .
Im waiting for my cam to go bad so I can Camm my hemi 😂😂
You nailed it. Mostly caused by engine idle. I've had a 2012 Ram HEMI with over 107,000 miles and it didn't tick. My 2017 Sport with 32,000 and over 150 idle hours ticks every time on start
@@beast_mode_4200 just cus it ticks doesn’t mean it’s the lifters and cam. Hemis are notorious for broken manifold bolts that also cause the ticking.

LMFAO 😅 won't take 10k to make it what a 6.4 is. If you put 7k into a 6.4 and 7 into a 5.7 you have a 5.7 that will be equal if not better and more reliable lmfao 😅 you missed the point of your weak drivetrain.
Also you can run more boost in 5.7 than you can a 6.4 while being reliable. But yeah again you missed the point. Living breathing wojak.
yeah but at that point if you waste your money on a scat you cant do much to the motor that's all you got

What’s up with the 6.1 Hemi? Would that be easier to build power compared to the 5.7? I feel like the 6.1 would see better power increases on low boost.
The 6.1 is an absolute monster when treated right!!!!!! I had a stroked 5.7 that started knocking reeeaaallyyy bad so I’m currently now looking for a 6.1 to throw in there with a 270 comp cam, longtube kooks headers, throttle body spacer, tune & some good ol 305s, possibly 315s in the rear!!!
