One of the dumbest and most offensive ever, but yes. Postal 2 is technically very close to being an immersive sim-style game. Postal Dude has several non-linear objectives he can complete in any order he chooses, and the game has several complex features like a semi-intelligent A.I that react to your presence and random events. There are also a ton of items you can use and interesting ways to interact with the world (such as being able to bribe Krotchy with your money or a copy of Gary Coleman's autograph to let you purchase a Krotchy doll). The only thing that holds it back from being a true Immersive Sim like it's contemporaries, however, was its lack of RPG elements. Y'know, my idea of what is an "Immersive sim" is that it's not a game genre, but rather a byproduct of how the game is. It's more of a design philosophy that can be applied to any genre, if you ask me. That is, a linear game that allows and accepts multiple ways to succeed in your objectives, including those that the devs did not intend. It's completely consequential and attempting to intentionally make one leads to poor results.
What I find neat about Postal 2's design is that your objective is to run errands. The game gives you tools to kill people, but it's your choice whether to use it or not, and it doesn't admonish you for using them. It only informs you of your decisions and their effects in the results screen. And yes, at least one of the pacifist options is legitimately more painful than the violent alternative because it involves bad singing.
@@Flinch9000 I don't know why, but I would absolutely love to play a quirky Earthbound-inspired RPG that makes you root for the protagonist, by making everyone else literally the worst people alive lol

Im just gonna list the thing you missed: - Postal redux has 2 different endings depending on difficulty - you didn't cover the rampage mode of postal redux which has a hotline Miami like scoring and grading system (and unique ending and has a banger OST) - coop in postal redux also has its own ending, loading screen text etc. - RWS actually had a say in Postal 3's development but yes the majority of the work was done by trashmasters Nonetheless I would recommend watching the official dev diary that is on UA-cam -postal 3 was NOT patched by RWS and RWS DID NOT take it down It was Steam The patching was done by crazy people who actually mod postal 3 (one of them being a ex trashmasters dev) - I'm not sure if you know but you didn't mention that brain damage is made by hyper strange which is a studio who know their way with boomer shooters -im not sure how true it is but postal 4 was made because RWS was desperate for some cash and it's still their money maker so they have a different reason for patching postal 4 since it's the only game that they aren't selling for like 2$ on their site -gone postal is not part of the Postal 3 OST and was part of the 25th anniversary celebration -the 20th anniversary patch for postal 2 was actually negatively received from my perception due to it braking mods and being way buggier than the previous version That should be all I think
Oh yeah right postal redux and hatred both reference eachover due to hatred being a spiritual successor (and failing miserably at it and the devs hosting recent staged/rigged modding contests (not kidding) And postal redux even has a Easter egg where you can play as not important himself
Your POSTAL 4 info is hot garbage. We didn’t spend LITERALLY millions of dollars because we “needed cash”. That’s not how needing cash works. We made a game that we wanted to make and we’re still spending money on it because it’s not done
Correct. It was written by the same guy as POSTAL 2 (except the Russian pyramid scheme crap). It’s just a bad game and yes we were responsible for the overall design.
I'm falling in love with this series and I actually cracked out into laughter for the first time since listening to The Deathworlders series I want these games now
You provide good comments on the commentary that Postal 1 makes, but I feel you could have gone a bit deeper on Postal 2's. Like you said, you can just wait in line, pay the money, and get through the game without being a complete psycho, all you really have to do it be patient. And that's pretty much the key to the point of the game (from my perspective). It's still following the game's title, but instead of controlling someone who's already gone postal, it's up to the player when and even if they go postal. It asks how much of boring, mundane, inconvenient, and often annoying normal life you can take before you decide to just pull out the guns and start blasting.
Oh, awesome! I love this series and glad to see more people bring it up. Something I do want to add, following Postal 2, there was the Apocalypse Weekend add-on that leads to the dude nuking the town (dont ask) which is what leads directly into Postal 3; however, since postal 3 was idk a little shit, that's where the Paradise Lost DLC for Postal 2 came around, where the lore is that the dude hit his head while driving which caused a giant hallucination that was Postal 3, only to have the *other* dude (Corey Cruise) be a figment of his imagination. You also break into Zack Ward's manor in that DLC (again dont ask). I'm not going to spoil what happens in Brain Damaged or 4, but it's important to note that some of the stories kinda don't transfer over either LOL. Oh! One more thing: If you want a more disappointing fall off than Postal 2 to Postal 3... well, my buddy Caleb down the road has something in store for you... something, Bloody.... [Semi fun fact about that series, the first game was made in the same engine as Duke Nukem 3D, the big one everyone knows so that's cool]
As much as I kinda like the goofy aspects of the later postal games, I really wish there was another game in the style of Postal 1. I love the horror and grimy aesthetics and the darker story behind it. I understand why the change happened but I still wish to see them give another crack at it.
The evolution of the postal dude is a lot like that of chucky or freddy krueger: a sadistic mad man whos very few jokes revolve around the geniuene enjoyment of the suffering of others, to a fully comedic character who still enjoys the suffering of other's, but isnt as serious as their initial incarnation
I met the dude voice actor for poostal at work randomly, I work at a grocery store and the poostall royale dude va came in there I think his name is Christian hunter
As a kid in the early 2000s, I remember hearing about the game from my older brother and cousin who owned it, but I only saw gameplay a few times, usually peeing on people, but I remember being so fascinated by the things you were tasked with doing and the things you could do by your own volition. And I think this series is still pretty legendary for some of the things you can do in it
As he goes through the title scenes I catch a glimpse of eyes starting back and when they moved my balls proceeded to implode with fear only to realize that they were my reflection.
oh my god am i happy to hear postal being talked about rn, especially from you, it is one of my current hyperfixations. this game has had a special place in my heart for years.
An in depth look at Postal 2's expansion packs would be great. It was a pleasant surprise to see you come back to the Postal series, hope to see more. 🤘
There is something odd to love Postal Dude, but we all love him. Even hes a psycho. It might be his design, voice, humorose lines or be at some point so relatable (dont ask me how much reletable) Postal Dude is just my favorite videogame character and will be for a long time.
Funny enough, there’s now a mod where you can add Dude as a companion in New Vegas. It’s still in it’s early stages, but I’d say it’s a worthy add-on for Postal 2.
How I explain the Postal Games from a simple stand point is that they're like the South Park of Video Games where they have no filter and they tend to listen to their fan base and the creators know when something is hit or miss but still do it and own up to it.
Postal 2 is just as much of a deconstruction as the first game, but while the first game is a deconstruction of violence in games, Postal 2 is a deconstruction of how the media and politicians think about violence in games, because in Postal 2, you do not have to commit a single violent action, you only have to do chores and yet the game is seen as far more controversial than the art piece solely about killing people that was Postal 1, it says “this will get banned even though all of the worst things in it are purely what you do”, and it was banned by multiple governments. Postal 2 is exactly what everyone who tried to ban Postal 1, said Postal 1 was.

I'm an absolute diehard postal fan and seeing this video was awesome (even if ur postal 2 gameplay was totally ass lol). Your editing goes so well with the comedy of the series, I was laughing so hard the whole way through. Love ur vids man!!
I hate how postal 2 is technically an immersive sim. On the level of Deus Ex no less. We truly live in the darkest timeline.
If Vince Desi ever dies and get's a replacement this will be chaos and just destroy the whole studio
I confused one guy by saying this, and I’m gonna do it again:
Postal 2 is Undertale, but if it released in 2003 and the only likable character is you
Hence the tagline its only violent as you are
@@Flinch9000 I don't know why, but I would absolutely love to play a quirky Earthbound-inspired RPG that makes you root for the protagonist, by making everyone else literally the worst people alive lol
@@Noelle_Holiday I absolutely love how a Deltarune-themed character commenting on this adds to the joke.
Postal series is like the finest vintage of toilet wines, and i say that with an absolute love for it.
Well, except for that certain one that we do not talk about...
Im just gonna list the thing you missed:
- Postal redux has 2 different endings depending on difficulty
- you didn't cover the rampage mode of postal redux which has a hotline Miami like scoring and grading system (and unique ending and has a banger OST)
- coop in postal redux also has its own ending, loading screen text etc.
- RWS actually had a say in Postal 3's development but yes the majority of the work was done by trashmasters
Nonetheless I would recommend watching the official dev diary that is on UA-cam
-postal 3 was NOT patched by RWS and RWS DID NOT take it down
It was Steam
The patching was done by crazy people who actually mod postal 3 (one of them being a ex trashmasters dev)
- I'm not sure if you know but you didn't mention that brain damage is made by hyper strange which is a studio who know their way with boomer shooters
-im not sure how true it is but postal 4 was made because RWS was desperate for some cash and it's still their money maker so they have a different reason for patching postal 4 since it's the only game that they aren't selling for like 2$ on their site
-gone postal is not part of the Postal 3 OST and was part of the 25th anniversary celebration
-the 20th anniversary patch for postal 2 was actually negatively received from my perception due to it braking mods and being way buggier than the previous version
That should be all I think
Oh yeah right postal redux and hatred both reference eachover due to hatred being a spiritual successor (and failing miserably at it and the devs hosting recent staged/rigged modding contests (not kidding)
And postal redux even has a Easter egg where you can play as not important himself
Your POSTAL 4 info is hot garbage. We didn’t spend LITERALLY millions of dollars because we “needed cash”. That’s not how needing cash works. We made a game that we wanted to make and we’re still spending money on it because it’s not done
@fiddlemenuts7155 wait a minute, i recognize you
@@rwsstudios spit yo shit indeed goat
haha nerd
it is ironic to hear calling Postal 3 unfunny when it wasn't TM/Akella who came up with these lines
Correct. It was written by the same guy as POSTAL 2 (except the Russian pyramid scheme crap). It’s just a bad game and yes we were responsible for the overall design.
I'm falling in love with this series and I actually cracked out into laughter for the first time since listening to The Deathworlders series
I want these games now
Fr
That damn song in the intro has been stuck in my head and I love it.
The dev and owebo guy is truely care about this game ... After all these years STILL recognize this review . Based as hell
I love how every actor in p4 gives dude his own spin.
If the developers of Postal watch Dumbsville's videos then there's a 0.001% chance that they know what Alpha & Omega is
You provide good comments on the commentary that Postal 1 makes, but I feel you could have gone a bit deeper on Postal 2's.
Actually the game is the most family friendly game there is, soooo idk what your talkikg about
Awesome Video! Loved to learn about this franchise and will definitely check out Postal Brain Damaged. Keep up the great work!
postal
Running with scissors has quickly become my favorite game developers.
That "🎵BUT I FEEL GREAT!!🎵" gets me everytime, and I F#$KING love it
Postal brain damaged rocks!!! I have like 50 hours in it, and even a speedrun WR
I remember someone doing a full pacifist run in Postal 2.
I respect the RWS guys because there are some real ass people running that studio!
Im really glad you made a video about this series waiting for this vid for a while now
Ngl Dude saying "I blame spongebob" out of context is pretty funny
Thanks for the honest review on Postal 3, it's just my favorite part in the Postal series.
Oh! One more thing:
If you want a more disappointing fall off than Postal 2 to Postal 3... well, my buddy Caleb down the road has something in store for you... something, Bloody....
I understand why the change happened but I still wish to see them give another crack at it.
for the longest time I didn't actually know that postal 3 existed, so i thought rws just skipped to 4 because it felt like something theyd do
Wow what great timing. A Dumbsville video on POSTAL right after I started replaying POSTAL games
👍
Maybe down the line you can do Hatred since its something felt like they wanted to recapture with the first postal game
Damn thats cool
Rick Hunter is his name fantastic guy
@@live10yearsinthejointreact80 when I asked he said Christian but said that wasn't his real name

As a kid in the early 2000s, I remember hearing about the game from my older brother and cousin who owned it, but I only saw gameplay a few times, usually peeing on people, but I remember being so fascinated by the things you were tasked with doing and the things you could do by your own volition. And I think this series is still pretty legendary for some of the things you can do in it
I'm pretty sure most people who started the series with 2 and 4 were more than shocked at the first game
Absolutely enjoyed this video dumbsville, you make really good videos
I hope this video does well enough to get that full Postal 4 video
As he goes through the title scenes I catch a glimpse of eyes starting back and when they moved my balls proceeded to implode with fear only to realize that they were my reflection.
oh my god am i happy to hear postal being talked about rn, especially from you, it is one of my current hyperfixations. this game has had a special place in my heart for years.
1:15"I live a really weird life" welcome to the club
A in-depth Video of the Science Hill series when?
An in depth look at Postal 2's expansion packs would be great. It was a pleasant surprise to see you come back to the Postal series, hope to see more. 🤘
They could never make me hate you Postal series
There is something odd to love Postal Dude, but we all love him. Even hes a psycho.
It might be his design, voice, humorose lines or be at some point so relatable (dont ask me how much reletable)
Postal Dude is just my favorite videogame character and will be for a long time.

Funny enough, there’s now a mod where you can add Dude as a companion in New Vegas.
It’s still in it’s early stages, but I’d say it’s a worthy add-on for Postal 2.
It’s kinda funny when you think about the fact that the player character of NV is a Courier, so it’s a *Postal* Dude/Gal going Postal
@@eur0be4t3r Meaning that NV could potentially be the REAL Postal 3 and we just don’t know it
Is it Rick Hunter or Corey Cruise? I'm down for either or.
@@four-en-tee I believe it’s Rick’s voice for him. Would be cool if Corey, Zack, or JSJ were optional voice mods for him, too.
i didnt expect a dumbsville vid on postal but i fw this heavy (i found dumbsville by the postal movie review)
Postal is truely immortal and regretting nothing, because there is no game with number three in the title.
It was just a bad dream.
How I explain the Postal Games from a simple stand point is that they're like the South Park of Video Games where they have no filter and they tend to listen to their fan base and the creators know when something is hit or miss but still do it and own up to it.
I will always stand by the banger Postal movie starring Canadian actor Zack ward
Gone Postal is an absolute banger and I can not get it out of my head
I really want them to keep working on postal 4, writing issues aside, there's a good game underneath the mess. much respect to Running With Scissors.
The only way to explain the entire postal series "This can't be good for me but i feel great" and 3 doesn't count
Great video. Its ODD though RWS would make a 4th game but never a 3rd. Also odd theres a blank 16 minute gap after Postal 2. Great video though.
This cant be good for me, but I feel great!
Vince Desi seems to love interacting with fans. I was in a Postal FB page with him and we wound up chatting in comments a few times. He's a chill guy
Postal brain damage is easilly the best game since postal 2
every other company gives me the vibe of a factory machine but running with scissors feels like an actual team of people who make good games with the help of the community
Gotta turn around I left my fucking son at the gas station
