Holy crap. The 455 rocket would effectively double the weight of a Nash Metro. How they had the car grafted around it had to be pure art. I've seen how that 455 rocket would move a Delta 98 sedan, one of the biggest and heaviest stock street cars ever to roam the streets.... that tiny lil Nash had to be pulling some G's!
IN ST. LOUIS BACK IN THE 70's , THERE WAS A 327 2bbl POWERED WHEELCHAIR...SAW IT DO QUARTER MILE BURNOUTS....AT OVER 100 MPH !!! HAD WHEELIE-BARS AND TWO HURST T-HANDLE'S TO STEER WITH BRAKES...
This is totally SWEET man! Takes me back to my beater back in the day ran 9's in the quarter and lifted the front wheels down half track but that was cuz I added the roots blower off a GreyHound onto the air cooled helicopter motor in my old Tucker in the 90's... it was a screamer!
I think that's one of those projects that sounds like it would be much cooler than it turns out to be considering the money spent would have arguably been better invested in a longer wheelbase car.
It never occurred to me that I'd ever see a Nash at a drag strip. Just never. And even knowing first-hand how docile and anemic those sweet little cars were in stock form, I'm still surprisingly disappointed by how actually disappointed I am that it lost this run. ROCK ON, LIL NASH!
Holy cow, looks like he would have to be straddling the engine between his legs just fit in the thing. Don’t want to think about crashing or the engine blowing apart yikes 😬
Nice clip 👍, Love the little Red - White & Blue Nash , Not much room inside the Driver look's like he's sitting right over the Transmission , could only imagine the size of the Driveshaft is , that's only a shell hiding the Motor because it's all Motor . 😈☠👍✌✌
They came with about a 25 horsepower mg inline 4 cylinder overhead valve engine ... And later on if you wanted to buy a complete engine you had to settle for the 50 horse version that came in the MG midget sports car but of course it didn't have that much horsepower when you put it in the Nash and use the original intake manifold and single carburetor etc etc... But it still had enough torque to try to wad the axle around the leaf springs in the rear and was slap against the bottom of the body stops if your floorboard it... But I don't think they'll have any problems like that with this one on the drag strip
I believe that was the 1500 that was used in the M.G.A.,same block and head but carbureted different for the Metropolitan. I think it used 1 single barrel Solex rather than the twin S.U's the M.G.A. used. I saw one grafted to a C.J.5 jeep frame, and running gear.i believe the wheelbase is the same.it was very nicely done and cool as heck.

I can see the engine and I can imagine IF there is a driver in there, what he's got his legs wrapped around, but where does the crap in your pants go after a ride like that!!
One of the coolest little cars ever made.
I concur!
He can finish last every time & still have the coolest thing there! I saw a streetable one at a car show with a SBC 355 grafted in. Very well done.
That Nash and its owner were at the NHRA Pomona event in July 2021. It really is a mind-bending (and beautiful!) creation.
The late great Gene LaMay in the Anglia. RIP.
Back in the 70s there was a Nash Metro with a 455 olds engine in it that ran at our local track and it was fast.

Is that really an 85” wheelbase? Dare to be different for sure! More power to ya brotha!
No way, more like 65”.
On the plus side, it’s probably the only drag car that can do a complete back flip and land on its wheels.
Those wings behind the rear axle look like they would unload the front wheels, something I wouldn't want to experience at high speed...

Those Tucker's were always terrors at the strip ;)
Man that thing looks squirrelly....must be a handful.
Being the opponent to that car is basically like getting a Bye run. He's never going to make it down the track without having to lift.
Ummmmmmmm.... why did we shut the camera off????
They both look like if you put a penny in it, it'd burn up the carpet. LoL!!!
That Nase looks BADASS but it has to be hard to control with such a short wheel base . Nice looking though 👍
"BEEP BEEP", HIS HORN WENT "BEEP BEEP BEEP"😎
That thing is outrageous and driving that short wheel base would take some serious talent.
My Great grandfather built Nash ramblers from ground up paper to road
I think that's one of those projects that sounds like it would be much cooler than it turns out to be considering the money spent would have arguably been better invested in a longer wheelbase car.
The wheelbase is so short he prestages with the front wheels and stages with the rears.
Absolutely right Mike! Except for this guy. This is one Bad Ass little car. It has an inline 6cyl 3.2L 1200HP.

@@fukhue8226 Man that little 1964 Honda is amazing! What a beautiful car too! -But I still wouldn't want to drive it! Wow! Too dang scary fast!
No ------- that's just criminal. I hope the Nash Metro can still be restored.

Now that’s a crazy man I can only imagine the ride that thing gives
With a wheelbase like that, it's gotta be a wild ride...

Terrific video!
Is the big girl still around?
Seem so dangerous on that small foot print
A quote from Far Cry 3: Do you know the definition of insanity? Driving that Metro would qualify.
Awesome!
Beep Beep! Remember that song by The Playmates?
What a great LOSING run!
Rumor has it, he’s building a roller skate next.
I THOUGHT THE RED ONE WAS A CHEVY HHR SS FROM A DISTANCE
i wonder if that is the same nash i saw on power tour in 2005 ,, sure looks like it ,
Scary as hell in something that short. A slight oversteer could out it in the wall.
When clown cars go drag racing!
With a name like Poteet, you should know something about racing :-)!
Not nice but you're correct
@@ranchduc im sure he does especially at Bonneville
Red one shot off the line!
There both sweet rides.
That must have been a very big tree they fell out of. Lol.
The Anglia was incredible.Sorry Nash..

The only thing slowing thst Nash down is the driver has to have giant balls of steel to drive that thing.
Cartoon dragstrip car comes to real life.
He makes the Anglia look big
Video aspect ratio, also.
Cute car but a short wheelbase makes it hard to handle at the finish line.
Beep beep hey buddy how do i get this car out of second gear !
"I swear, She's stock". 😜
Bummer. I seriously thought the Nash was going to win. NOT. EVEN. CLOSE. L.O.L.
The wing is literally just going to cause the front end to come off the ground
Wow. Fast start ! Bring him a Tesla to eat for lunch.
Gotta have big nads to drive a short wheelbase car like that.
Definitely a Show Stopper *
They didn't even show us when all the clowns got out! I feel gyped!
Maash Netrode? (Partially deaf.)
Defines funny car
This is the definition of insanity .
He would win against my faster BB/FC. Because I would let him get to the eighth mile before launching. I'd rather watch from a safe distance.
Couldn't he find something with a shorter wheelbase?

Way to short to be a Drag Car!
Poor camera work.
That's something that you two but play. Garf our head car wayback can't see s***.
Looking at the Aero the red car looked slippery
Pretty bad. Didn't even finish the race.
Squrpl
Those cars are cool but not practical the short wheel base makes them unstable at high speeds .
