- Benno Moiseiwitsch (1890-1963) playing some excerpts from Rachmaninoff's Second Concerto
Outtake from the film "Battle for Music", released in 1943
London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Constant Lambert (1905-1951)
It's a great treat to have these films, now going on 80 years old, available with a few clicks of a mouse. Decades earlier, one could read references to them and regret that they were stored away in dusty archives, perhaps avilable to only a few enterprising collectors who had the means to purchase copies or have them made.
Majestic, magnificent pianism, great stillness, controlled power, authority..... these are just some words that came to mind from the opening chords. Thank you for sharing this rare and historic video clip.
Oohhhh, how majestic ✨️!
Musical heights!
Thank you so much for this rare clip, it reveals Moiseiwitsch at his absolute peak. He was always very much the musicians pianist in that everything was performed with impeccable taste and with perfect control. This modest man was much admired by Rachmaninov no less.
Here is an object lesson for some of todays young pretenders.
Thank you so much! I never thought that a BM movie existed!
Amazing pianist.
I always have great admiration for this great artist and if my memory is correct, I think I have a cd of him playing both Rach Second and Third-something that I treasure. It’s good to see him playing the second concerto (although not complete).
Is that for real? I didnt know he had a recording of Rach 3. Is it possible for you to share on youtube, as it doesnt exist?
He recorded Second concerto a couple of times and there are recordings of First concerto and Paganini Rhapsody but not sure there's any recording of Third concerto. It's certainly on the record that Rachmaninoff himself beleived Moiseiwitsch played some of his works better than he himself.
DIVINE!
Great stuff!
thank you!
Спасибо за уникальную запись видео великого композитора!!! ❣️👍👍👍
Touching 😪 just beautiful, whoever wrote this a genius
A true genius
@@Mr.Rachmaninoff If you say so, yourself!
Marvellous!!!!
Probably the closest we will also get in video to the great Australian painter, George Lambert (1873-1930), who was the father of Constant.
