Chris, I have been trying about all of the different types. I usually take three to four saws out when I cut, this saves time in refueling and always seem to have sharp chains. Not wanting to spend over $ 200 prosizers I have installed extended nuts on the front bar nut. Originally I threaded SS rod but had to unscrew it to refuel so now I drilled a hole through the nut and an unthreaded rod and use a clip to hold it in place. Easy to install and remove and cost is about $ 3 per saw. Works for me. Thanks for all your videos.
I am a retired pro photographer and really enjoy the firewood business although at 75 its getting harder.

Ive been using my prosizer for almost a year now , works great , love it . I mount mine lower so my hand goes above it when i cut horizontal.

This was a good one as always thanks to both of you guys. I usually go from the back of gas tank handle to felling spikes on saw turning it sideways cut and so on bottom of saw is 16 inches roughly on mine thanks

The laser alone is $28.50 for green and $17.50 for red. Like any other electronic gadgets it’s sure to die
I currently run the prosizer myself. I had been doing the measurements with a stick and marker. It was slow and I’ve lost those then I made a magnet tool works good but it’s something that you can miss place and lose. The major thing I like about the prosizer is it’s on my saw and does not get in the way. It does need to be changed but it run for quite awhile and in the very bright sun it is a bit hard to see. It’s pretty accurate and consistent with lengths. Now there will always be a bit of variation because we aren’t using a fixed cutting tool like a processor. I would have to disagree with it being easy to see in the sun in the direct mid day sun it is hard to see but most other times it will be fine. I have had no issue using it in the cold and it stays on my saw that I keep in my tool box on my truck. It’s one less tool to worry about bringing out to the wood ward or the forest. All tool have pros and cons. You also need to be a bit more conscious of trying to stay at a good 90° angle to the log ( it does take some time to get at marking the log and then cutting.) once you get good at marking you can seriously plow through the wood. I like it myself so I’d buy more down the road. Cool to see more people embracing new tools.

GP Outdoors has one and did a really good review. If you're looking for the 15-17" range I'm sure they're great. You have to make sure you have the bar 90 degrees to the wood or the length will change quickly, so the longer the bar the harder this would be. If you're looking for exactly 16" I think the accu mark might be the best.

Chris has already cut with a 500i and likes it. He also has a Husqvarna 592xp and loves it more than the 500i, I think.

I've been using one for a year now with excellent results. I have the improved version though the first couple I had failed because the spring under the button wasn't strong enough and wouldn't allow it to spring back out.

Looks nice I might have to get one for my ms 391. I'm using like a magnet where it stretches out to pick stuff up but I have it marked to do 18" cuts. Works great for $5.

Cool device, you can also measure from the end of your handle to the nuts keeping your clutch cover on. The 2nd bolt on my husky is 16 inches.

My neighbor, who is retired and sells firewood, came over in his gator the other day. I just got done splitting about a cord of wood that i'll burn in my stove in a couple years. I say to him "man, if you put a gun to my head i still couldn't cut a consistent sized round" 😂
He's like yeah you got a couple long ones in there.

Good lord men. I've veen cutting firewood for 20 ish years and I've never thought of using any of these gadgets. I like your stuff you guys. This kind of thing is a silly in my opinion. I realize you guys are new at this, but after a year I'd think you guys would have had it figured out.
Thanks for your opinion Tim, I have only been cutting firewood now for 50 years, and sell about 600 face cords a year, I have a lot to learn. We cut wood to sell and customers like pretty wood so we like to make it so.

I’ve never found a need for any measuring device other than my trusty 1 metre long stick with 3 screws in it. If it’s less than a metre it goes straight onto the splitter, any more then I cut it down to 1 metre using the screws to mark where the cut goes.
After the lengths are split, I use a rack to cut them all up to the desired lengths. I have markers at the base of the rack so I always get them consistent lengths.
That set up had worked for me for years now.

Just use some canned air to blow out the charge port before you start charging.
If you notice that the bolts are moving after a while, then use some blue loctite and mark the bolt locations for a visual checking on moving.

Looks like a nice tool. I have couple the stick on the bar ones. I don’t like them it a extra step. I just cut for myself and family eye work ok for me. If I sold wood I would have be more exact. Have a great day my friend.

I've heard it before that Chris likes a bottom grab.
For accuracy due to parallax errors you would be better off with the laser to the outside. For bash protection obviously it's better on the inside. I'd say that the biggest disadvantage to using the ProSizer is that you always have to be the same distance from the log as what you measured at. In Chris's case he marks when the tip is touching the wood and then immediately moves the best part of the bar length closer to start cutting. For speed I think you'll find the whiskers will still be a fair bit faster.
We will see, maybe I can do a review after using it a while!
Personally, I, like others, made a template of the desired length of the boiler from an M6 stud with 2 nuts that attach this template to the chainsaw rail. I make 3 marks on a meter-long log, quickly remove the pin, do the cuts and repeat. This is a bit inconvenient, so it is better to replace the nuts with neodymium magnites. It's even cheaper, almost free. And although the laser is cool, you will quickly damage or destroy it against a log. Due to the constant shaking of the saw, the fastening screws will be constantly lost.
I mainly use a zip tie most of the time.

Morning Guys! I Like that Prosizer alot - Bob and Em are wonderful folks. I am finding after using it over last summer and the Fall, that I get more than 5 hours out of a battery charge. Makes for quick cutting. Just takes a bit of time to get a hang of where the dot is, versus your bar, but once you get used to it, you begin cutting more more consistent. Just when you thought you couldn't block wood any quicker - now you will be on fire Chris!! LOL! Have a good one!
GP I agree it takes a little bit of getting use to but when you’ve mastered it you wish all your saws came equipped with it. Bundled wood comes out extremely consistent which makes your bundles look more professional, almost like it was cut on a processor. Happy cutting…

Hi Chris, first, you do a great job at producing your videos. I owned a video production company 30 years ago. I am amazed at the quality folks get with go pro cameras. Would you mind telling me what editing software you use? Suggestion: if you want to lower the laser spot, you could just add a shim to tilt it anywhere you want. Shalom/gw P.S. @@InTheWoodyard Chris, in 1991 I made a trip to the National Association of Broadcasters show in Las Vegas to see the latest in production technology. High Definition cameras were just starting to enter the market. Hitachi was offering their new HD camera for one million dollars and the latest AMPEX editing system was $500,000, but the image quality was no way near that of your gopro. And get this, the recording times were 30 minutes to one hour tops per tape or reel and you needed a full crew for a shoot. that Jobar Teflon Measuring Rod works on both it attaches to the nuts .. Sthiel shop has one that mounts to the underside of the bar.. hard to find either of them

Would be pretty slick if it could be integrated into the inside of the handlebar. I guess it holds up to the continuous vibration of the motor or we'd have heard about that by now. Only tricky bit is holding the saw the same way to the log for every measurement. I think I'll stick with my magnetic magic wand.

I eyeball my cuts most of the time. But on the bigger logs I use a magnetic 16in stick on my bar to keep consistsnt length.

The human eye is very accurate and with practice its quite easy to mark off 16" by eye with no reference. If you are doing loads of logs, assuming they are the standard 8' use your saw to make a mark at the 1/3 and 2/3 point, then make a mark in the middle of each of these three sections. Voila 6-16" blocks ready to be cut. No gimmicks, easy and repeatable. If you have 16' logs, cut them in half first to make it easier to layout.
Yup, that is a good point but not as accurate. I like my zip tie markers better so far.
Zip tie marker is cheaper and you don’t have to charge those.

I would set it up so it lines up at the motor and the teeth because I don’t like messing around the tip and then it won’t matter what length the bar is. The second thing I put in the adapters for the magnetic cable charger it keeps the connect clean some that are hard to keep in because of vibration I put a bead of black light glue around the magnetic charger adopter

Will the Lazer work for a 18 inch bar
Yes, any size will work.
How many tanks of gas can you run through the saw with a full charge? I hope its alot more than 4 tanks.
I think that the battery lasts foe 5 hours of continuous running so probably 6-7 tanks.

Yes it will but a shorter bar will cut faster and have more power. You might want to talk to a tech at a saw shap.
Yes, I've been processing firewood for year and I received this as a gift from my son - Pro-sizer. Didn't last. Lazer light weak, poor without overcast.
I do not use it now either, it gets in the way a lot.
What was the main reasons you stopped using the pro sizer
It was in my way on the bar grip area especially when felling trees and the zip ties work just fine.
Nice video job. I've seen the ProSizer advertised before and wondered how well they work.
I wonder why the saw companies haven't found a way to integrate laser measuring into the body of the saw with external angle adjustments. Not sure I like the handle mount of the ProSizer. Yes your rakers appear to be a little low, but the bogging/stalling will go away after the first or second tooth sharpening as you already know. Did the ProSizer make Tony's saw finally cut straight? GNI

What a way to drag it out how long does it take you to cut a cord or wood
I cut about a full cord and hour or so, but I can only usually cut about 9-12 tanks a day before I am tired!
There is a updated one that has swivel at the laser so you can mount higher than bar level and aim down to get it at same level

On the Firewood ProSizer webpage they an option for a Swivel on the laser it’s $74.50 .
The Standard ProSizer you demonstrated is $64.50
I bet the Swivel one is great for adjusting the laser beam down without moving the clamp down the saw handle.
They also have chose of green or red laser.
They are back ordered.
I think $39.99 would be a better price point.
My grandpa once was fixing an old truck up an needed a specialty bulb from the auto store. So when the counter guy handed him the bulb and said that will be $12 he said that is too much for a bulb and the guy put it back in the box and back on the shelf and said ...Go make one yourself.....

The big problem with this method is that as the laser is at an angle the length will vary when you move the cutter bar on or away from the log, surely it would be easier to just move along the log and mark before you cut through it, and much quicker even though you are doing 2 moves.
I mostly use a couple zip ties on my handle...faster and easier.
@@InTheWoodyard I think the ties like you use are a far better way to go, if they get broken they are easy to replace, with electronic devices and batteries they will always be trouble. Stay safe ! Chris B.

I installed mine on a dedicated battery powered saw. No worry about destroying the laser. Turn the laser on, mark your log, turn laser off, then use gas powered saw to cut.

I use my accumark in my 2511p. Then come back with 550 572 6100 or 7900 to finish it. Ofcourse I use the 2511p for limbing also. Love that little fella.

This is my opinion after you mount the device to the saw it would be nice to rotate the laser up and down, for me I would move the laser further down.

If you wear size 9 and a 1/2 boots, it is a foot and a heel. Your boot is 3/4 of the length. Just imagine a quarter more and cut there. With a sharpie, I draw a line across the top of my boot (back from the toe) at the point that equals distance needed. It is easy to visualize that much further and make precise cut

I understand why UA-camr’s show products on your channels but I think if you NEED something to get a 15-17 inch piece use the zip cord trick Christopher invented! By far the cheapest, simplest, and most foolproof device I’ve seen..

@@InTheWoodyard with the electronic laser on Tony’s Stihl it looked like you’d have difficulty adding Bar oil without removing device, or was it just camera angle?
@@rickthelian2215 Rick I positioned the Prosizer slightly above the oil cap. No issues filling the oil on my Stihl saws. Hope this answers you question

Interesting tidbit. When timber cruisers measure hardwood, we have to cut off the height at 4" dia". When you get a good eye for it, you can tell just looking without having measure
If you cut an exact 16" peace of wood and place it where you can view that every day.
It shouldn't be to long before you get the eye for 16".

Good idea but I'll stick with the zip ties. I don't like that the length changes the closer the powerhead is to the log. Zip ties stay the same length no matter how you approach your cut.

could use a v2.0 where they redesign the handle hole at an angle to aim the laser down. down a little much would be better than up too much. cant think of many saws where the side handle is vertical..??? maybe i dont know...

hmm , actually just ran a Husky 350 and its handle is pretty vertical. So I guess i DIDNT know! :D No good way then to do a one angle fits all. It needs to have some adjustability.
