- Cut your wood at consistent lengths by using this homemade firewood measuring stick. You can make it for less than $10. I attached it to my Husqvarna 455 Rancher chainsaw.

I like the zip tie idea...very cheap
I had a magnetic stick made for this task, been looking for it for the past week, w/o satisfaction. In lieu of that, I'm using a 24" extendable magnetic pickup tool set at 16". I've had that for years, haven't used it much. Will paint it yellow and in the chainsaw accessory bag it goes. Just putting it out there as an alternative solution. 😁
Clever idea..... for years I've been eyeballing it I get it within a inch normally.. as long as it fits in the stove😁
That’s a good idea! Appreciate you showing us your creation! Take care!
Nice and Easy 👍 For FRIDAY!!!😂👍🚜💨💡Thanks for the video Ed!
That is a great hack! You just need a muffler mod on that husky to wake it up. I'm headed to the store for a magnet!
Another genius hack. I always carried a 16” piece of 3/4” square wood with me to the wood pile. I would set the ‘measurator’ on the log, put the chainsaw next to the end and make a cut to mark and then pick it up with my free hand, move down the log and repeat. This is much faster and and enables the operator to keep both hands on the saw. Thanks
Great idea Ed. An inexpensive, easy solution that seems to work just as well as the methods that Gord tested! Nice!
very helpful simple project-Thanks
Nice easy and inexpensive DIY project Ed. Keep up the great videos.....
Since you demonstrated the Perfect Stick I still like this hack better. This is reusable after I run over it with my Gator 😉
Great looking measuring stick. I've made a few of these. They do work well.
Good job Ed!
Thanks very much!
Great idea nice and cheap Thanks very much!
Great channel man. I subbed
Thank you! Much appreciated. -Ed
Cool tool, I like the Fabrication Friday! 👍🏼🍻🌴
Thanks MC!
Nice video editing! Very fun and easy to build. Thanks for showing us.
Thanks Ross!
Hi Ed! Simple yet brilliant! My favorite kind of project. Thanks for sharing!
Although I can't take credit for the idea, it's definitely simple and brilliant!
Very nice Ed. very simple and my favorite part is that it is cheap.
Thanks Gary. Indeed it is!
Handy little deal there
Hello from another local Minnesota Channel! I just eyeball it. :)
Nice little trick
Great idea. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Tom!
"Fabrication Friday"?!? Okay, I subbed. ;)
Great job, Ed, keep it up, brother.
Thank you, Curt!
Hey that a great Sell Pitch ( Fabrication Friday Sir ) 😉👌 Great sence of humor 🤣👌🤭 Great measuring tool 🧐👌 A side holding belt for quick storage 👌🧐 Have a great week end Cheers 😇👍🍻
Thanks very much, David!
@@MyClutteredGarage 👍😉🍻
For a holder I use a washer strung on some para cord looped thru my chain saw chaps belt, the magnet attaches to the washer and I don't loose it in all the limbs. Also painting orange helps when the chain flips off the bar once and a while.
@@rockandrattleretreat5830 Outstanding idea Sir 👍👌🧐 Thank you very kindly for your input Sir, keep warm Cheers 🍻😉👍
Interesting thanks
It's a nice quick inexpensive accessory. Instead of gluing use electrical tape, that way you can interchange with different length rods.
Great idea! Thank you.
Or just make the rod the longest piece you would ever cut and use tape or a marker to mark the shorter distances.
Very nice job! I enjoyed this video thanks for sharing!
Thanks Cayden.
Great little idea Ed. I made one also awhile ago and works great
Thanks Bob. Pretty simple solution!
@@MyClutteredGarage yep. On my smaller saw I got a zip tie around the side of the bar to the correct length is a cheap easy idea also. Works ok.
Great idea and on the cheap
I am blessed with a size 15 foot so I just gauge my cuts by the length of my boot
Works great for me as long as I don’t slip up
Your idea much safer I would say !
Just be sure to wear steel toe boots, Phil!
Hey Ed ....FAB Friday.....fabulous idea...lol you need to "fab"ricate a pocket on your pant cafe to store between logs.... "fab"ulous video
Haha, thanks BJ!
Neat idea, Ed! Fabrication Friday's a great idea, too :) It did work really well, thanks for sharing :)
Thanks David. But probably not EVERY Friday 😄
We take what we can get. 😎
Good project. Definitely an inexpensive option. I still prefer to just use the bar length to measure.
Thanks Chad. I’ve done that, but my bar is 20”.
Great idea Ed ( if that’s your real name )😂 Now I can’t wait for next Friday!
Thanks Alan. But not EVERY Friday 😄 -Ed
What type magnet/size?
Interesting. I used to use a tape measure and spray a red dot along the tree every 16 inches
Thanks ITT. That works too!
Thanks Ed for making me feel foolish for spending my money on one that was already made, cost a lot more, and I don't even use anymore! I've got an open wound too, would you like to rub some salt in it?! 🤣🤣🤣
Just kidding. Merry Christmas!🎅🧑🚒
It works well! Too late to cancel my order too! Merry Christmas!
Where was your chaps, helmet, shield and hearing protection?
You are right! It was in my next video. 😐
@@MyClutteredGarage Great! You need to be safe so you can continue to make your great videos.
Why 16 inches?
My stove takes only up to 18. 26 gives some room.
I was worried for you while you were chainsawing - no hearing protection, no chaps/chainsaw pants, and what looked liked non-steel toe, floppy shoes while you were rolling that log around with your feet near it.
Thank you so much. No excuses, but this was a quick demo. I know, accidents can happen anytime. I do use those things when working. I appreciate your comments! -Ed
No guts no glory🤣🤣
I haven't used chaps since I quit working in the woods professionally the trick is don't cut your leg with the chainsaw🤣
FYI. NOT A GOOD IDEA. I've already tried it. First the magnet that you use needs to very large(not something that you buy at Walmart in the crafts department). And it does have a tendency to vibrate itself off the bar and onto the chain. Imagine a hockey puck flying at you at 100mph. There are alternatives to the magnet, such as a suction cup, or a laser mounted device.
What happened with yours?
@@rd-ch1on hockey puck
I am sad to see you are re-inventing a trick that have been on UA-cam for a long time w/o acknowledging where you got the design from. 😞

Hi Arne. Just sharing my own take with a potentially different audience. Like I said, I ordered one, so I may show the difference with I get it. I do appreciate you taking the time to comment.
