So what do you think of the Honda E now we've had a good look around it? And would you consider one instead of the new Renault Zoe or MG ZS EV?
What Car? Looks cool! But why introduce a brand new EV that doesn’t move the bar forward? Not better range. Not better technology (rear view cameras need to DIE - except backup cameras, of course). Disappointed.
Honda CEO statement: "I don't believe [EVs] will become mainstream anytime soon," Hachigo said in a recent interview with Automotive News.
No wonder they have made a compliance car that no one would buy.
@@larskefka3373 Not exactly a compliance car which is usually just another model in which they "slap" a battery... but, yes, I agree. A half-hearted effort, unlike, for instance, the original Insight hybrid which was a major technological effort and ahead of it's time.
You would need a bloody navigator to operate the stupid screens!
No
Love the design of this.....but the price & range will hurt sales badly.
Price & range is bad 💩💩💩👎👎👎👎
poor range. Won't sell.
Yep, price should be 20K max with this kind of range.
this is like when seeing the new iPhone doesn't even have half the specs of the Samsung...
For the UK and Japan markets, maybe. Of course there will be enthusiasts that are going to be die hard fans of this. In the US though, they might need to upgrade the battery capacity to handle the long trips. Maybe make a bigger version since the market trends here usually lean towards Crossover/SUV's.
I definitely would love to see a four-door version with normal side mirrors, door handles, and less screens, without adding too much weight (in comparison to other similar vehicles, this is heavier). Hopefully, with battery technology advancing and being able to compact energy more efficiently, we see ranges skyrocket.
The battery is intended to maintain the multiscreen system, driving is optional ;)
Hahaha spot on
joke aside, 8 hours of those screens is 100Wh at best ;)
I just died
A bold move from Honda, but sadly too many compromises. I’ll wait for better range, cheaper pricing, and a proper charging infrastructure.
I think here and 10 years will be a better time, it is still developing, charging takes a long time, range is too low and price too high
Zoya Spencer I will never buy a tesla. Not even in a million years
You could get a used one
NICK XP I won’t either! Mostly because of their wasteful space activity.
B.T.W. None of us have “a million years”, we’re lucky to have any.
Sorry! enjoy your precious time as best you can.
@@martinnolan4800 afaik Tesla does not do any industry in space yet.
If I was wealthy I would buy this car for my daughter/wife and secretly borrow it. Love the styling and quirky design. At that price though you’d really have to value styling over practicality in a big way.
Would be great for my daughter who drives a whole 3 miles to work round trip!
Yes, it is a fruity little car for "girly" types.
@@davidmccarthy6061 Bike :) But even myself as a it consultant don't drive more than 80km a day so this would be enough. And a bold statement as well. Maybe lease prices will be interesting.
Peter Belanger just own it like a man, instead of calling this “girly”
I hope features and design trickles down to future Honda cars
Everything else went over my head until I heard that you can connect this with your games console. I'm sold.
Looks amazing, I’d 100% buy it if the range was that of the Zoe
poor range for ~£30k & no boot space, shame as it looks pretty cool
Fold the rear seat down 861 L
Beautiful location you chose... I particularly love the buildup of the mud/clay/sand on the wheels. You're doing a great job!
Hey man, if you like scenic drives, then you might like my videos! Hope you check it out :)
11:00 That means I can connect a gaming pc to the car via hdmi and plug it into power socket, then do some powerpoint, gaming, movies and after effects projects , lol.
Piling on other comments, looks good, but the range is miserable, for that price...
maybe designed to be a city car
@@tinchin714 for that price??
Finally, a review that shows the steering wheel adjustment. It would have been nice to see the back with the seats folded down. Thanks
I sit in the Honda E when i was at ifa 2019 it was very nice. I hope there will be a Option in the future with at least 300km range
Love that it allows one pedal driving and the interior design is a triumph and it’s cute outside too. Glad they put effort into the chassis. Ultimately a very Hondaesque effort.
This the most futuristic cute car i ever seen.
Looks at a 1970's Lada
You need to get out more
The concept was a bit cooler. They made the release car a bit too rounded and cute.
I'm not convinced by the wing mirror screens and rearview mirror screen. It seems like Honda are adding loads of screens that will need to be replaced to try and make up for the loss of engine parts they can sell.
Its range isn't calculated in KMS its calculated in SOT (Screen on Time).
Nothing wrong with this car for the intended purpose. Sadly some reviewers focus on what it cannot do more than what it is.
Thanks for the honest video. Nothing of those shortcomings were mentioned by the CarPervert when reviewing the same car.
There's one thing that I absolutely would need in this car. Or any other car with massive screens/displays: The ability to turn all of them OFF, and keep just the speedometer and the battery charge level. When I'm driving at night, I don't want all that glare around me.
I was super excited to get one of these and then i saw the price tag....
I was really excited to get one before I realized the us doesn't get nice things
Isn’t the price tag the first thing people usually look at.
Got a suggestion for you guys - would be great if you start using the Metric system along side Imperial one
Excellent review. But why not comparing with the Mini SE ? Go on doing the good work.👍🏻
If it came with the original alloys on the concept it would look sick!!
Does the aquarium do turtles as well?
No,because they are too slow to move and watch, and that would land you in the hospital...fast.
Great review! I am planning to buy the Honda e. Honda reliability on an electric car.
I dig the exterior look. I find it strange with all the screen substitutions for the mirrors they didn’t instead couple them all around the dashboard so the driver’s eyes aren’t bouncing all over the cabin. They could have taken a leadership role in this regard.
Great review
That range though... and no frunk?
The most beautiful box I've seen..I want it
This is my next car once my S3 lease finance is up early next year. Looking forward to it :)
I like how it looks. For me as a runabout for town use and as second car for a two car family it would be high on my buying list. What spoils it is the range and price. If it was 200 miles and £20k this would be a massive success.
LOVE the design, i'd buy one tomorrow if I could, regardless of the practicality flaws!
This is the second UK based review with a left hand drive.
The review was shot in Spain.
I can understand deducing that from the weather, but it's Valencia.
I like how they went crazy with the screens 😋
the honda logo kills the whole futuristic look. They really should have kept the concept car design as is.
Wow, a modern car with a design I actually like. I wish they would introduce a gasoline/cheaper version though.
You are the first reviewer I've seen in the back seat ! But how do you open the back door from outside?
The video shows you at 1:05.
Agreed with comments so far. The range isn't good enough and the prototype was way more appealing with subtle differences over this one. Still, I hope it's a success despite the views of Honda's CEO
IT'S A CITY CAR
@@planespeaking Too expensive for what is, even if a city car.
@@jasonfournier Nope, it will sell bundles and is a far better design than its direct rival the Mini cooper E
@@planespeaking We'll see how sales go by 2021 compared to the VAG trio. They are also city cars, cost considerably less and have 40 miles of range on this thing. The Zoe 2020 is also cheaper and has DOUBLE the range of Honda's effort.
Great review. Love the looks but yet again the price, range and charging time mean its not practical. Could have had conventional mirrors and one screen for a start to help increase the range.
Nice review..
Cool idea with the side mirrors, but given the option I would always pick a physical mirror over cameras and screens. Especially considering the extra drain on the battery they present
and what happens if the cameras play up?? you'd have to look over your shoulder all the time
Bad, rainy weather in Valencia? out of luck!
Thank you for the neat review, Doug. To make is even better, I would also evaluate the real autonomy. The WLTP cycle estimate is not so bad as the previous NEDC cycle estimate, but real life values are the way to go.
That said, ~200 km with a 33 kWh battery is not a terrible result in itself.
there was a huge storm last week in Valencia, 4 people died. Winter is not really a good time to be in Valencia.
@@alfrredd I am very sorry to hear this. I thought that it did not rain a lot in Valencia, but I was clearly mistaken.
What round lights o so excited
Awesome retro styling - love it! I would buy one but the aquarium doesn't come with cod.
I saw one of these on the road and was completely completely blown away ! I wish it wasn’t so expensive.
Buying this. Cute and will be useful around town
I haveto say even though u guys are professional car reveiwers i feel like sometimes you guys oversell your review s who cares its still a nice well thought out design thats different and will be the Icon of the Future because it really is the #1 ONLY first affordable car in the world every other EV is $50,000 and this one starts at $28,550 well thoughtout and amid built nice car what Honda is Affordable 👌 💯 u guys havent even stated the obvious everyone on Tech lol im pretty sure 2nd generation wil be exceptionally goregous like this one and maybe thats when we get in U.S 2021 i hope i cant wait
For the price you can get much better range. It's a lovely looking thing, and i applaud them for that, but you're paying for bells and whistles rather than what really matters; Practicality.
Do the rear seats go down making more space in the boot?
3:08 it definitely looks a lot faster than what the model s has
This needs a real world 200 mile range and better infortainment to justify its price. Alternatively I 'd be ok with a simpler interior, normal mirrors and half the price.
Kia e-Niro 64kWh has set the bar at real world 250 miles and about 350 miles urban. That shitty little Honda Tonka toy is a waste of everyone's time and energy.
Jeremy Lister it honestly could have been much better. But that little bit of range is it’s biggest con
Some really don´t get this car.. It´s a city car and as such it will be brilliant and with a 200km range it will be more than enough as a city car.
I dunno about you guys but I love it.
Ever heard about the metric system?
Why are there flippers/paddles
behind the steeringwheel?
I'm not sure I'm onboard with the mirrors. When do they receive power - when you unlock the car, or when you actually turn it on? Also, the range is an issue. On an unrelated note, how good is the sound system, is there much road noise, what's visibility like, etc.
Why is the interior based on a 1980s coffee table?
And the car has wagon wheels
Because 1980s coffee tables are cool!
One thing I'd like to see more of with cars full of screens is night time reviews. They might all work ok in the day but, when you have screens left, right centre and above you, all beaming out light, does that not get a little glaring and tiresome at night, especially on unlit roads? It's something I'd like to see more time devoted to. It is a nicely designed car but, in 2021 I think the range needs to be better, especially at the price.
They need to make an Si version that looks the same guy has a sub 5 second 0-60 with 200-300 miles of range, awd would be cool too
In 6-7 years
Acceptable, okay,
And that’s just the interior quality and space.
On top of that there’s the limited battery and the not so limited price.
I have been hyped about this car since last summer when I first saw the prototypes. I have to say I am a bit underwhelmed by the finished product. It looks amazing but as you pointed out, the interior screen display and software just seem very basic which is confusing considering all the other tech on offer in the car like the side cameras. Also, perhaps a small thing but the car needs an armrest. At just under 30k and with all the amazing cars that will be launched over the next 12 months and beyond, it's going to be tough for Honda. Let's see what the new Jazz Hybrid has to offer. Thanks for the review!
The last thing I want more in my life is more screen so no thank you...not even mentioning the poor range.
All those screens all consuming electricity! It could have had a few more miles range if they had stuck to regular mirrors etc etc. (Cheaper too maybe ) Over stuffing a car with gadgets does make it a better car.
Lets say all the sreens and the electronics behind it consume 500 watts. That would be 0.5 kWh per hour of driving. That's less than 3 kilometers of range!
Simon That could be the difference between making it to the next charger or making it home.
AdmiralPicard2010 Don’t forget the lack of physical mirrors saves you probably more than a few kilometers.
when is this car going to be available in the US?
Jason Auw it’s not coming to us
Good review...but sorry this car does nothing for me, why on a small narrow vehicle would you want to clutter the dashboard with two screens showing what`s going on behind you when a simple door mirror mounted on the outside of the car has always worked just fine?
I think for a short drive in the city the car is awesome. Despite comment that the tech features are difficult to use. I believe it is a matter of time one will adjust and familiarise. Same goes to Iphone when it was launched where everyone felt that it was difficult to use.
Honda e breaks my heart! On the one hand its range is tiny, and it's extremely expensive. On the other hand it has the exact size I like and looks like being designed by telepaths inspired by my sci-fi-phantasies.
(:)
Looks fantastic in and out but the range??
Like the styling, a bit of Mk1 Golf to it, but that range is terrible, especially at the asking price.
I feel like the majority of people disappointed with the range, haven't driven an EV. This is a city car, these are very rarely going to be driven on road trips. And even then you can find very few places in Europe where you are over 100 miles away from a rapid charger.
220km (137mi) is quite acceptable for a city car.
I have 5 years of EV driving with 3 different EVs under my belt. Fiat 500e, BMW i3 Rex, and BMW i3s , 100miles of city driving is a lot driving.
the range isn't a problem its the price. you can get a nice bmw sedan. with low mileage for that kind of money. or a new audi a4, or mercedes c class. the new MG HS is £20,000 can it's bigger with more range and you don't have to wait for charge
@@incelcream2554 Sure you can get a luxury brand for less. My i3s rex with very low miles was a little less than the Honda, but near double the price when new. The MG HS is not an EV. Also you do not buy an EV to charge strictly at public rapid charging stations. Its possibly the worst and most expensive way to run an electric car.
the problem of EV's aren't the charging or range, because if you plan your journeys then you can get around. but the problem with evs is the price
I am a Honda person,,I think it looks beautiful,,just wish they would have made a frunk in the front for more storage space
Is the battery active cooled/heated?
Can you tell us what happens to the charging port when it rains heavily? Does it fill up with water? It looks like a bucket ready to be filled...
I would love to buy one but it’s far too expensive for me. It should be £23-25 grand car
I tend to agree. At half the battery capacity of some rivals it should be a lot cheaper. Maybe Honda wants the recoup the development costs in the first year of sales? But then I'm sure I'm not the demographic for this car. It's the just out of college, nice salary, urban 20-somethings that also spend $1200 on a phone they replace every two years.
Should be max £19,999
If I were a crazy tuner, I'd buy this and chuck ALL the screens out. How hard can it be to wire some regular mirrors in there?
I Want to see the Prelude looking one.
Looks nice, it needs a ski roof rack and I'd rock it
In the Alps = 40 mile range
Super cool but too big screens
I'm pretty sure that rain is actually totally normal phenomenon. Styling of this car is totally superb, inside and out! It's a shame that it comes with a cost, literally.
I was in love with this car the moment I saw the designs but I see how impractical it is. If it's ever going to make it to the states it'll need to have a bigger boot, split/foldable rear seats, and longer range. $31k for such an impractical car with no cargo space won't ever sell in the US.
Boot space - does the back seat drop down? It looks like it does.
oof the range sux... love the multi screen and the GamingConsole HDMI hahaha 🤣
Nice design but too small for my taste
That charging socket looks like it could get flooded if you need to charge and it rains really heavily... Is there a drainage hole?
04:32 Did I see a Chromecast plugged in the HDMI port?
11:30 The answer is yes - he said so
It's surprising that Honda, king of smart packaging (Fit / Jazz and magic seats) didn't manage to make more space in this small package. It's obviously supposed to evoke the mid-70's CVCC Civic, but even that car made good use of space. Kudos to the journalist for pointing out plenty of the negatives and showing the rear hatch and rear seat area. And did anyone happen to notice that there was no lift-over at the rear? That's nice.
Brother which car you use?
its for people who lives in or close to towns and dont really travel other than to work and home and around the home area, and wants a little more quality than most other cars can offer
How about the battery? Is it refrigerated by air? Liquid? Its very important to know that.
Wish they brought this to the U.S. having such big VIP cars with V8 or a straight six, range doesn't matter. This is a good looking Honda and has unique features. I would buy this even if it does have a shorter range and a pricey MSRP.
I like where Honda is going with the look. It's not completely my style since I'm not into SUV type cars, but it has a Dodge Challenger look in the front which I hope they implement it more in their future cars. Maybe they can do this with their hatches.
I wish it had better range 😩😩 I love this style so much
the system software design is meh, but since its software it is updateable/changeable.
if people complain a lot about the software design, there is a posibility honda will change them in the future
I really wish competitors would/could complete with tesla... Body design is good, but disappointed with everything else, maybe a good city car. Was hoping for long range, sharp UI and touch interface. I guess is a good start.
The thing about honda is that they focus on build quality and engine rather on the fancy features. Some see it as a con some see it as pro.
When i hear, "Its okay, its acceptable, its alright, its not the worst" That basically means its below par of what i want
The exterior design is fabulous but for the battery and screen it should be updated
Jezuz! It's like Honda built an electric to prove they think hydrogen/fuel cell is better
ikr, it's like they don't want to sell this car. why put 6 screens in a small battery city car??? it's not an E tron or Tesla, also the range/price ratio is awful.
oh well it doesn’t have to be Tesla to have touch screens
@@EchoAccord any other electric car under 30k with this many screens and cameras?
alfrredd It’s just a compliance car. They’re not the least bit serious. Japanese people don’t like EVs, and Japanese manufacturers are willing to go down with the ship because they only care about the domestic market
@@jonathanfields4ever America is honda's main market, it's not Japan anymore.
This seems like a really good city car. The range is fine for commuting or local deliveries. People moaning about the range need to realise that with any EV you recharge overnight while the car is parked. It is not like a petrol car where you have to go to the local service station, you get a charge point fitted at home which gets you running for about £5 per charge. The only real time you will use a public charge point is on long journeys.
