After many days of longing. At long last, my dream of Greco-Bactrian Nights is fulfilled.

Crazy that this area has been in upheaval throughout history.

An excellent video. It is so sad that further archeological digs cannot be safely done. Even when the Americans "occupied" Afghanistan there was no safety in any non-military venture outside the main cities. I hope that the Taliban does not repeat their destruction of ancient civilizations as they did when dynamiting the the huge statue of a Buddha carved into a huge cliff wall. It is very sad that a flourishing civilization in that area is now a barely functioning society.

Such a flipplant answer is unworthy of true scholarship and history. @@BOIOLA08

@@BOIOLA08 I haven't heard of a civilized society, treating 1/2 of it's population less than pack animals, destroying cultural monuments. Turning literacy and knowledge backwards. Yes, ISIS comes to mind, but they didn't control a country and their women were perhaps treated a tad better than these, committing only slightly worse ethnocide.

Afghanistan has always been like that, the same people in the taliban are the same people who have been there back then. Afghanistan has always been a place of hard-headed and resilient people.

@@thelordofnuggets629 I don't know if they are the same people. When you think of the Romans gradually conquering the Mediterranean then 2,000 years later in 1940 not able to successfully invade Greece. An American or British newspaper said that had a full brigade of Albanians firefighters been present at the Italian invasion of Albania in 1939, they would have thrown them back in the sea. In 1920 Albanian troops battled the Italian troops in Vlore, Albania and forced them to withdraw.

When Alexander the Great or Alexander the accursed arrived in bactria/ the greek and hellenistic colonisation was so extensive that predates his father Phillips reign as the Persian deported the Greeks to bactria just like how Jews ✡ or hayastani Armenians are . So much mistakes happen on this podcast.
