For years now, I have always heard of Cilla Black, and i have to say, I really love her voice. Her covers of songs of Bacharach and David (Dionne's original recordings) were really great. In those days, a lot of artists were covering a lot of songs of other acts. that was not new. So I listened to I've been wrong before and It is you and fell in love with these songs at once. Beautiful melodies and great lyrics. Now my favs by her. Too bad the US never really got to see her talent. As for Ed Sullivan, what he did after she performed was really rude, but I think he was hurrying her along due to tight time constraints on the show. I don't ever recall him doing that to anyone ever, and i watched that show for years. Well Britain, you had talent, your Cilla was funny, quirky, a great voice, loads of talent, and fun. I wish today's young talent need to take a page from her about how to treat your fan base with respect. She was cool. RIP Cilla.
Seen this before and still love it and love Cilla. What a talented lady and a very powerful voice. God bless you Cilla and glad you are back in the arms of your soul mate Bobby
Thank you for posting this long interview with Cilla! I'm American and I learned about Cilla from the TV movie "Cilla", which was shown in 3 parts in the States last year (and again this year!). I loved it and that's why I'm here - to learn a bit more about the real Cilla (and her Bobby❤❤). I don't understand why she wasn't a huge hit in the States - she was fabulous and had a beautiful voice!
I saw a documentary about this. I believe it was Burt Bacharach who took her to the States, but somehow she didn’t take to it and became homesick. I don’t think Bobby was with her and if I remember right (I’m quite old now was in my early twenties when the Beatles and Cilla were becoming famous) she phoned him and wanted to go home. Also at that time, the “British Invasion” hadn’t quite got going so maybe the timing wasn’t right.
I remember watching this interview and thinking how wonderfully natural Cilla is , she is relaxed and omg , when she told us about her baby Ellen , it was so sad . I had forgotten that she gave birth to a daughter . I miss Cilla Black.
I remember Cilla Black when she had her tv series cilla in 1968 which played in New Zealand also Moment of Truth Played and I think she had visited New Zealand.
I miss her Saturday nights growing up Baywatch, Gladiators & Blind Date now its shite like the XFactor (I'm a big fan of Strictly) there be no one like Cilla anymore x
Read this ........ On 1 August 2015, at the age of 72, Black died at her holiday home in the Spanish town of Estepona.A spokesperson for the High Court of Justice in Andalusia suggested that an accident may have been a contributing factor in Black's death Following the results of an autopsy, her sons confirmed that she had died from a stroke following a fall in her home.A pathologist's report confirmed that Black had suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage after falling backwards and hitting her head, presumably on a terrace wall. It was believed she had not been found for at least four hours In 2014, she had stated that she wanted to die when she reached 75, as her mother, who suffered from progressive osteoporosis, had lived to 84 and her final years were difficult According to a friend, she had recently said that she was approaching death, complaining of failing eyesight and hearing as well as arthritis. Black had been suffering with rheumatoid arthritis for years and was in "considerable agony" towards the end of her life
@ 4:15 her way of outing Sir Cliff? ;) Cilla makes light of it, but her husband Bobby Willis sounds controlling not protective! Huge difference... Cilla was such a great laugh! Her infectiously delightful giggle so tickles me at 40:11! :D I'm glad that's what shines through in this fascinating interview. I really miss seeing her on TV :( May she RIP. x

@@DeanMoxley87 That doesn’t sound good and you’d be right to take the stance you have. Having said that we all have our moments, just as on the flip side, two sunny days in July doesn’t make it a Summer. That’s also not to undermine your experience, because it probably would have made me question my opinion of her too. Thanks for the belated reply and all’s good in sensible discussion and a constructive opinion. Have good weekend my friend.
By all accounts Cilla wasn't the most pleasant person behind the scenes full of her own self importance and a real snob who shunned her working class background in Liverpool a City she never visited during her career at the top unless it was for a photo/self promotion opportunity as mention several times by fellow Liverpudlian Ricky Tomlinson who couldn't stand her.
I cried when loose women made her cry, and even harder when she died 😭 she always reminded me of my grandmother and my nan hated that I used to call her cilla black 😂but when cilla died it brought back the painful memories of my nan dying again. I was so upset 😭😭😭
Not to speak ill of the dead but I heard she was a nasty bit of work irl not the down to earth lady she portrayed on tv and the accent was put on on tv and irl she affected a cut glass posh voice. She’s got a point about those celebs moaning about the press though.
Dionne Warwick actually sung it first but Cilla made it a very big hit. Fantastic song. She was fab, R.I.P (she apparently died from an injury from a fall, so sad as I feel she’d still be here otherwise) and poor auld Cliff Richard adored her (and she him) I miss her x
