Somehow, I missed this video, and I know that my comment is 2 years late. I am from southern Ontario Canada, and if given a choice as to where to farm in the United States, central Illinois would be my first choice. I live that beautiful prairie. Like everyone else I liked the 4430 in this video. Thanks for sharing.

I bought a 4430 in the mid-seventies. We picked it up at the factory in Iowa. $24,000 and change. God I loved that tractor. We had the pump turned up so it turned about 180 hp. Believe me I could pull 6-16’s very well. I had an IH plow like the one in the video. After years in the open on a 4020 I thought I had died and gone to heaven in my cab.

We have a 4430 that my grandpa restored on our farm. We dont work it to death, but its not unusual for it to be hauling gravity boxes or silage wagons and doing it darned well. And, it purrs like a kitten on a grain auger. I wish I was around when those horses were in their heyday. Grandpa and dad tell me that I will never appreciate just how hard the classics worked when they farmed our ground with them before we had the kind of horsepower that we do today.

When John Deere returned to the UK after WW2 with the 4020 some modifications had to be carried out to comply with UK regulations, mainly fitting of parking brakes as just having park on the power shift wasn't deemed sufficient and also the headlights had to be moved from the mudguards (fenders) to the front grille - rather like the tractor in this great video.

It reminds me of how little lift capacity Deere built into their three point hitch on the SGard cab tractors. Today a four cylinder 125 engine hp tractor easily handle a heavy fully mounted four furrow reversible plough, while this big tractor handles a one way semi-mounted.

I still have a 1975 JD 4430 and i used to pull 6-16 IH 710 plow and switched to a IH 720 and 5 -18 there was a big difference as the 720 did not plug up it took a lot to plug it. I have not plowed since late 1980s then it pulled a 13 ft chiesel plow now all the 4430 does is loader work as a Deutz DX 130 would work the JD in the ground on half the fuel and i still run the Deutz

If it was a plastic 1/24 build it yourself model kit it was made by the Ertl company of Dyersville. They also made a plow and a barge wagon to go with it. This kit was part of Ertl’s AMT model kit division that made car and truck model kits. You can find them on EBay. They also re-released this kit in the year 2000. Ertl just celebrated its 75th Anniversary of producing farm toys last year.
