I have many hours in a 4430 John Deere. That was the first tractor I drove when I started working for my Uncle in 1978. He bought the tractor new; I need to find out the year he purchased the tractor. He has passed, but his sons still own the tractor. This video brings me back to some great memories. Thank you for making the video. Great job, and Thank you for all of your😀 videos.
Some of the best john deere tractors were made from the early 70s to the early 90s and not full of all this unessasary nonsense like today it looks like a computer room not a tractor
There's still a LOT pof these and the later 4440 out there doing exactly what they were made for. This one is in nice shape yet, but it sure would look a lot nicer with the proper sized rear tires on it, though I understand cutting costs and using what you have available.
I remember working for a farmer out in Eastern Washington in 1976 and he had a two year old 4430, What a great modern (at the time) that sound guard cab was.
It amazes me that the 4430 and 4630 were our big tractors growing up, bought new, they are still here, but the 44 has been moved to the feed wagon and the 46 is now on the mower conditioner. Practically the 2 smallest tractors we still use.
i recently purchased and use a 1974 John Deere 4430 for shredding fields and making hay. great tractor! I will slowly be restoring and fixing the old boy to as best of its former glory as i can. with God's help it has not yet seen its best days. i really appreciate your channel. keep the videos going.
I pull a 566 1000 rpm with a IH 706 with a 310 Ci ya she will smoke some. But the high hp is crazy your fuel not mine . I can run 5 mph old school hp and less fuel burn . You need to fix your kicker :)
Too bad it has to back up to dump the bale. Makes for a lot of cycles on the clutch. The operator doesnt seam to care about taking off at full rpm either.. shaving the clutch a bit on every bale.
Great video Jason. I put a lot of hours on some 4430's as well as 4440's and a 4450. If you ever come across a 1175 Case get some video if you can, 1175 was the first tractor I got to run and actually do work with, when I was a kid.
recently bought a 2950 fwa loader and it's been a great addition plus its great on fuel, also run a 568 exactly same as the one in the video, it makes 5x6 bales tho
@@nellsonstout7001 yeah i know allot of truckers want the 5x5 or if making 100% alfalfa make the 5x5 but making grass or straw make 5x6. most my bales are 68-70
Nice looking tractor and baler. I had one just like it with the power shift. Good tractor. I sold it to a buddy I've mine when I got my IH 5088. He's still running it. One of John Deere's best tractors.
Jason, I've ran a 4430 2WD with a syncro transmission with a Loader on it. The AC doesn't work on it so the windows are cracked open and unfortunately it's loud
Lots of problems with transmission/rear end issues with them after about 5000 hrs. Happened with my cousin's tractor, the JD mechanic told him the transmission dipstick was too short on them, and never ever let it get below the full mark.
Spent so many hours riding passenger as a small guy in a 4430 doing field work, planting pulling carts ect. Then the 4440 showed up an tho nearly the same it changed the game!
We have a 1975 john deere 4030 with a soundguard cab and bale hay with it here in central ky for our beef black angus cattle and it's my favorite tractor by far
We had a 4630 I spent many hours in . It was our biggest tractor for a time pulling our 3970 harvester then we moved it to the disc mower and corn planter.
4430s are good tractors, I've worked on several. unless the farmer really cares about his equipment these are some of the nastiest, most worn out tractors on the farm.
@@nellsonstout7001 i always assume on a big 4wd bareback means drawbar and remotes but on a rigid frame (2wd or fwa) bareback means pto + remotes but no arms
@@nellsonstout7001 is correct. I'm not sure what Deere used for the option of PTO, and remotes minus three point. I don't believe it would be considered a standard, or Wheatland because it has an adjustable wide front.
The bale is tied as the baler is reversed. Once the twin is cut the bale is ejected. Then the tractor pulls forward to begin refilling the baler with hay to create the next bale.
There is a computer screen in the cab that shows the full rate. I briefly show it in the video. The baler also has an arrow gauge that moves up as the baler fills.
great video of a classic! That 4430 is so well-kept too. One thing I've not sure on with the 4430 is whether or not they were all turboed? Why did some come with engine breathers and like the ones in this this video, don't have them?
Also the john deere kicker is bad to come out underneath the bale before it drops out of the chamber if you're downhill of have the gate opening too fast so you wind up with the kicker on the wrong side of the bale.
On the farm I grew up on we had a 4230. That was the main tractor for the operation for many years. It was a real workhorse. My dad still has the tractor to this day.

They are some of the best tractors ever made, at one time we had 7 4430’s in use on our hay and cattle farm in Western Ky.
Looks like my Dad's hay rig. Love seeing the old John Deere 30-Series in action.
The 30 series changed the industry and are long lasting.

Those rear tires must be 34's i like them with 38's make it a little more level.
Must be an early production model. No high intake and 18.4-38's.

I have an open post 4430 and love it. It was sitting outside for over a year and grancked up like a champ. Love my 4430
Out of a single tractor model I see the most in Iowa whenever I'm driving through the country, it's the old 44 series John Deere.
I bought a 1977 4430 in 1988 for $13k. It is on our 535 baler right now. I put a JD air seat in her……what an upgrade!
