  • Hi!
    Welcome to my first ever Hungarian lesson!
    In this lesson I'm gonna be teaching you the vowel sounds of the Hungarian language. Also, I'm going to give you some simpole words as examples with each sound, so not only you'll learn the sounds but you're gonna learn some words too along the way. Good luck!
    Enjoy!

      @@yogalife365 it’s been only a year actually and I’ve learned a few things. Still beginner. I had to pause in studying daily since moving to Hungary is not optimal with the current situation. It’s a hobby now. Thanks for asking! I’m hoping the situation changes and I’ll get back on it.

      I will watch them as well, as I just started seriously learning Hungarian - I already knew a few words that I previously learned, plus two songs (the lyrics are in Hungarian and I know most words / verses) and, I noticed that Hungarian isn’t as hard as ppl think, because the patterns and verb endings are easy to remember, and the words are usually easy to remember as well! Hungarian is a category 3 language like Irish and Scottish Gaelic! I am actually learning all three, and also Italian / Galician / Catalan / Gallo / Latin / Occitan / French / Esperanto etc and I am advanced level in Dutch and intermediate level in Norwegian / German / Swedish and Portuguese and native speaker level in Spanish and beginner level in Welsh / Old Norse / Cornish / Gothic / Manx / Norn / Icelandic / Danish / Faroese / Slovenian / Frisian and the other languages that are on my list of languages I want to learn and improve!

      However, the Ö sound doesn’t exist in English (the U in burn is a schwa sound) but, it exists in German and Swedish and it’s the same as the Œ in the French word cœur and it’s pronounced the same way, like an EO sound that’s pronounced in one sound without a break between E and O and, the Ü also exists in German and it’s an YU / YOU / IU sound that’s also pronounced in one sound without a break between the Y sound and the U sound, while the É sound in Hungarian kinda reminds me of the É in Icelandic, but in Icelandic it’s more like a YE / JE sound!

    Hello, thank you for your excellent video! I have found your Hungarian lessons finally, so I am very happy with this. Keep it up! I know this Hungarian language is very difficult, but I am trying to challenge it. I love learning Hungarian grammar, vocabulary, reading, etc.

    This is an example of when it helps to have a northern English accent.
    In the north east we pronounce the sound in 'say, day, play' as é. So to a Hungarian it sounds as though we're saying 'szé, dé, plé'.
    Similarly, the vowel sound in the words 'go, low, ago' we pronounce as ó. So we say 'gó, ló, əgó'.
    And we don't make these sounds into diphthongs either. So it's a tiny advantage in learning Hungarian if you're a Geordie!! 😂

    • @hungarea3486
      @hungarea3486  Рік тому +1

      Haha, I guess so! Brian Johnson of AC/DC also speaks with a Geordie accent, right?

      Pronouncing your long vowels without the off-glide is actually an advantage in most foreign languages 👍

    Hello, i liked your tutorials and i follow them. They help me so much. I am planning to visit Budapest on March, i hope : ) By the way, I am from Turkey and some words are same in Turkish or there is sound similarity. For example Alma, we call it 'Elma' in Turkish : )

    • @hungarea3486

      So I heard!
      We also have the word "sorompó" which I think is "sarompo" in Turkish. And honestly, "kicsi" and "KÜÇÜK" are also not far from each other.
      I hope you can visit us in March!

    Great video. How would you say 'space lord? Could you do a video on place names in Hungary? When we are driving down the country roads, the place names are unrecognizable. It would be good to get an idea of how - to pronounce them. Also, many places have the same pre or suffix such as var, puszta, nagy, etc. Thank you.

    • @hungarea3486
      @hungarea3486  Рік тому +1

      I would say "Space lord" is "űrlord". But we don't reallyhave a Hungarian equivalent for this.
      As far as places go, maybe sometime i nthe future I'll talk about them.

    I know this is a long shot but I am trying to find the meaning of a word that "sounds" like chooch in English, but was a hungarian nickname for a friend. Her Hungarian grandfather used to call her chooch. (spelling unknown) and the meaning was lost when he died. Any chance you might know what he as calling her? Thank you in advance.

    • @hungarea3486
      @hungarea3486  4 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea. It doesn't sound like anything that is commonly used. It must have been something that was between them. Sorry.
