This was an amazing trick that i learned recently. Been using it since then. Now, to give more punch to the track, you could add a second fabfilter c2 and select mid instead of side and do the same knob settting. This will push the track further. Adding a mild saturation ( fabfilter saturn)later would definitely make your track much more lively.
Fabfilter c2 gives width while fabfilter saturn gives a depth and weight. Along with that use ozone imager and a light plate reverb. Thats it
the knob settings in this video are incorrect and are only gaining a dry signal, nothing else (Ive posted a correction in comments)

Great tutorial. I use iZotope vintage compression for my side comp. but it looks like you can have a little more control with the FabFilter. Also, great track!

Yes I’m still figuring it out. Soo with mastering compressors I should opt to do more atk and release when I want less “pumping”?

Hey soundOracle I was wondering If you choose to do mid side compression on your master bus should you still do regular master bus compression or would that defeat the purpose and make it over compressed or does it just depend on the material at hand.

A H it’s fairly early in the chain. It’s after my main bus compressor, but definitely before all of my EQs & Exciters.

ATTENTION ANYONE WHO SEES THIS: All that is happening with his settings is he is turning up the side signal! For side only compression 1) TURN OFF AUTO GAIN 2) you need Dry Gain and Wet Gain at 0db (centre) 3) Dry outer ring should be hard left (allowing the dry MID to come through) 4) Wet outer ring should be full right (allowing the compressed SIDE to come through). 5) You can now use the compressor to compress the side, and raise the Wet Gain to compensate for any reduction. 🙄

Is that low cut needed ?
Lil Sharpy are you talking about the low cut on the compressor? It helps a lot because it tells the compressor to ignore the lows. That way the lows won’t trigger the compressor & cause it to pump. I just want the compressor to target the areas where most of the side information is. It doesn’t actually cut the lows from the mix though; just tells the compressor to ignore them.

Are you doing a parallel mid/side compression?
Nader non-parallel compression & it’s just the sides.
I prefer non-parallel for mid/side.
