Nick I totally get it. The mind is like a computer and sometimes needs a reset. You have gone through a lot recently. Also a lot of changes. The stuff with your friend, Adam spending less time with you. Plus the massive goal of reaching 100K subs. That is a lot to deal with. Life changes, we have to adjust, sometimes it just take a little while. So good to see you back at it and back on top of it.

Yes, we were taught to drill a drain hole in situations like that. Eventually water will find a way in and it needs a way out.

You should look into getting a go pro clip for your hat to do POV's and would make it easy to show what your doing

It would be brilliant if you manage to get a full garden fix I liked what you did with the boat. Any more coming from the huge rewire you done where you done your back in doing the outdoor sockets would love to see how that ends up as you mentioned power to a pier if I remember for his boat

Nick mate, replace the heat damaged socket with MK Logic. They seem to hold up to high draw long term better than most.

Go back to the beginning, you used to film by sticking a GoPro to your head and doing a POV - that would be a great way to show fault finding, perhaps get a sponsorship with the new Insta 360 action cam? It doesn’t need to be a polished video, just want you see.

Fit EV rated sockets for electric heaters, they're spec'd for a much higher duty cycle than standard sockets.

Why would the socket at Nanny Pat's get overheated and burn like that even if she is leaving the heater plugged into it turned on all day ?

    • @justme5384
      @justme5384 6 місяців тому

My guess is that the plug in the heater is bad, and it gets hot and radiates onto the socket

It's a very old socket - I'd say it's at least 20 years since you could buy those. The springs holding the pins eventually lose their grip and connections work loose, causing overheating.
But it got me thinking of solutions: if Nanna fiddles with timers and they end up on 24/7, I would put a timer and contactor in a locked/secure location, to control outlets to each heater. Possibly a 20a switch or just a flex outlet at each heater, with each protected by a 10a or 16a RCBO.
Or new, top quality, plug and socket for each heater. Set the timer to switch off for a few hours overnight and midday.
Could also install a thermostat with the timer and contactor, so overall temperature is controlled and the heaters cycle on and off even if she fiddles with the inbuilt thermostatic controls.
Ideally you would put in panel or storage heaters with locked controls, or get a grant to install an Air Source Heat Pump to re-use the old ducts.
Concerned about safety, trip hazards and electricity bills.

Like to say I enjoyed the video, but watching you fault find the EL Circuit that was not true, it just clearly showed your lack of Testing Skills.
Top tip - Have a walk through, looking for likely supplied points and any marks near to the fittings, next at the CU remove the LN & E from the Faulty Circuit, then Multi Meter across each Cable to establish the type of fault condition.
Then find what you think is the half way point of the circuit and then drop down the fitting and remove ALL the LNE Cables and Test to find which are showing any faults, then back to the CU and again check to see if the fault is cleared, if all good as it may be, move on again to the EOL and again remove the LNE Cables and Test with your multimeter.
By now things should begin to shed some light, the type of fault and where the fault is.
Shame that your lack of experience never led you immediately to the outside EL especially as the Emergency Fire Door, should have jumped out at you as maybe having an outside light due to the location being off road with no street lighting.
One to remember for the future, yes I can sit back in my armchair and smugly know all the answers, but I had 5, yes 5 decades in the Industry and was once as green as green.
