- Exactly three months after headlining a short, Humphrey returned for another Cinemascope outing with Ranger Woodlore. Here at the promise of a warm cooked meal, the large and likable one, along with his fellow brown bears, pick up litter from the park according to a grid that the Ranger has made. Many have fond memories of this cartoon, with good reason. It's a delightful little piece, with catchy music, funny twists, plenty of butt-bumping, and even a cameo by Smokey Bear.
I wish Disney still showed cartoons like this. I'm an adult and still like them.
Kevin C I was just talking to my wife about this. They should have a retro Disney Channel with all the cartoons that use to be on.

Aye agreed. Walt Disney would have a conniption fit if he saw what Disney was / has been putting out these days. IMHO, that is.
Agree completely. He's probably rolling in his grave. Glad I was raised when I was and could enjoy this stuff, not the garbage they call pc cartoons now.

Sometimes when my wife and I are cleaning house we sing this one complete with the dance. Ohhh the things you do when you have been together for 20 years, we both grew up on Disney cartoons as kids and it occasionally shows through funny moments in life:-)

Humphrey the Bear is probably the single most underappreciated Disney character of all time...then again, so are most of their "Bear" characters (except for Baloo).

My brothers, and I used to clean our rooms to this song all the time. Even at the ages of 30, 28, and 25.. We all still remember the cartoon, and song word for word.. With the given "bump bump" hahaha.. Good times!!
I used to love seeing these at the movie theater during Saturday Matinee in the 70's.

Now imagine being a kid in the 90s post soviet Russia, who watches a VHS pirated copy in english without any dubbing, subtitles or comments whatsoever and then this bear appears, says something and bounces off. It was extremely confusing and accidentally the highlight of the cartoon

i remember watching this in school in easterhouse in glasgow at wellhouse primary school when i was 6. was singing it for months afterwards and still love singing it now.. pick it up, put it in the bag BOOM BOOM

Yup, that's "Droopy" doing the Ranger. Voice actor was also many character voices on NBC's Golden Age of Radio's "Fibber McGee and Molly" show ("Wallace Wimple"). Yup, Bill Thompson. Talented guy - often heard - never credited on film.
LOL just moved into a place with a litter strewn vacant lot next door. I told my son we needed some of those cartoon trash removing bears, described this and he thought I was crazy. I promised him I'd find it online. God bless the youtubes.

All you need is plenty of onions, a lot of grease, flour, butter, ground black pepper, and seasoned salt--cooking like they did back in 1956 when they made this picture. I still cook this way, and sometimes I swear after I give my little dogs a nibble, they act almost human too!!

It's great to put a name to the voice of the Disney Park Ranger. I recognize his voice from several other Disney cartoons. I have always wondered who it was. His Park Ranger character has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid!
Christ man, I can't remember how I had a copy of this as a kid but I would laugh my ass off at that Smokey the Bear part. So random and weird for a Disney cartoon. Must have rewound it 20 times...

Me and my brother Josh use to sing this song and laugh at the bear. We felt sorry for him that he never got his meal and had to clean the whole forest himself hahaha.

Those bears in the park were so mean to Humphrey! Surely the ranger should have noticed that they pushed all their trash into Humphrey's area. But then again the ranger was pretty devious himself with making them work while he napped and bribing them with chicken cacciatore.
The ones who dislike this probably feel sorry for Humphrey!

I gotta admit, the sound being out of sync with the video, and making the "bump bump"s not match the rump bumps sorta takes the edge off it a bit.
Anyone remember a crtoon from the same era where the cartoon ends up melting and dripping all over in a very colorful mess. I want to say it was underground for some reason.
Humphrey. I feel he would have made another favorible Disney next to Pooh also. If only he found his aduience he could have been part of the Mickey Mouse Team.

Cartoons like this and Litter Bug should be what's shown today, not the garbage they have on TV now. These are VERY relevant in the present day like they were back then.

I remember seeing this cartoon at the Ford Rotunda in Dearborn, MI, in the 1950s. Greatest Christmas Fantasy ever each year until it burned down in 1962. Thanks for the memories; also remember seeing a Disney chipmunks cartoon that I will find.
