We rented Jan 2020 right before shutdown and needed a 2 BR Handicap unit. We had a great experience and added someone to the Magical Express pretty last minute to one person who wasn’t driving with us, and it was easy. Had a great trip!
I wouod think the renter as they have to have a cc on file whe. They check in. So is Jane Smith owns and rents to John doe, and he trashes the room, his cc is on file.

Even though I am a long long way off to affording to buy in, I would consider renting for a tailor made holiday package to make those special memories even more special. If I was an oversea's owner, I would definately rent out if not banking or using in any given year. Loved this show, great work folks! This team really gels and works. Also loved the food review for Topolino's Terrace 👍❤

When we bought our direct contract disney "gifted " us last year's points to bank. Well we weren't going to travel before they were expiring so we rented out with dvc rental here. Easy to pick the open listing and book for the renter. Fast payments on the dow payment ad well as final. Very easy and would work with again. Juat do t have any spare poi ts to offer up.

Something that was not covered. If I list my points for rent and my banking deadline comes up and some or all of my points have not been rented, can I pull them back and bank them?
All the contracts I've seen for renting out points allow the owner to do whatever they want with the points until a reservation on those points have been made and the owner receives any payment for the reservation. That kind of information should be in whatever contract you sign with the rental company. If there is a mandatory minimum window to have your points available to rent, etc., it needs to be in the contract.
Ah you skipped over the transfer part of that one question. I too would like to know the difference of rental points vs transfer points. For the guest, they're both $19 a point and I'm not sure as a renter why you would choose one over the other.
Transfer points can only be given to another member. They are points that are transferred from one member’s account into another. For the member receiving said points, they then have the power to book themselves with them. The challenge with transfer points is members only get one single transfer per use year in or out. Rental points stay in the owner’s account that rents them out and they make the reservation for you (the renter) who does not have to be a DVC member and provides you with the confirmation number to add your stay to MDE.
My question relates to your last segment. I am in the group renting with an idea to buy in the future. But I don’t want to make a decision based on unusual circumstances. Are rooms easier to book now because so many banked points due to COVID? Are they more expensive now because of the built in cancel measures?
The other variable to consider is the upcoming 50th anniversary which may lead to people postponing their trips until the fall or even next year. I can tell you as a recently new member, I didn’t have any issue finding availability 7 months out, with the exception of September 30th snd October 1st (October 1st is the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World). Those two nights were pretty much sold out at the 11 month mark. So as long as you understand that DVC owners really need to book their trips at least 7 months in advance, you should be fine.
I've been a DVC Member for 6 years, and 1-bedroom villas are always the easiest to get. Studios fill up first because they are the cheapest and 2- bedroom villas are just as hard to get because in many resorts the 2-bedroom is mostly a lock-off that combines a 1-bedroom with a studio. As soon as the studio is rented, the 2-bedroom is no longer available. So a lot of availability depends on what type of room you want. We bought with the idea of staying in studios (there are just 3 of us). But in 2018 we couldn't get a studio at Boardwalk and got a 1-bedroom instead. It was amazing! So now we're a 1-bedroom family!
What liability does the member have (i.e. room damage) for rented points?

Before I was a DVC member we rented points from an RCI owner, just an FYI when we checked in we had to pay a $185.00 transaction fee when we check in.
