The sad part of being a foreigner working in japan is that japanese treat you as temporary. “We need you but we don’t want you.”

I'm sorry you feel that way, but America is no different and even worse. The longest I've worked for any companies were the Japanese ones. Even when they were struggling in the late 90s and recently.
Worst is if you work for an American company under an indian boss who'd treat you like a box of tissues paper!

Always fascinating to hear Carlos speak. One of the most competent senior executives of our time. What is most shocking is how in Japan, a country I always thought respected human rights, that the notion you are innocent until proven guilty does not seem to apply. And a 99% conviction rate? He had no chance of a fair trial.

Excellent interview with a lot of important questions. I like how Carlos is helping others achieve good for the world with his experience and the internet is truly making it easy to do everything remotely, so I do not think this would impact him at all. Hopefully he wins the law suit too, well deserved compensation.

This whole issue of arresting Carlos Ghosn is totally unneeded! It is a MESS! The key players that brought him down are just hypocrites! What is sad, his experience is now wasted since he is under Interpol red list. There are many carmaker would hire him immediately if he is able to travel.Hopefully, he will be back where he belongs!

I like Carlos Ghosn. As for the charges against him, I am not in a position to judge the extent of their validity; However, I am sure that this person is a genius; And he performed clear services to the Japanese economy, in particular, after he raised a bankrupt company and turned it into profitability. This is not how he should have been treated and his freedom restricted like other criminals, as the accused is innocent until proven guilty.

According to him, and Japan has not disputed it, the initial charge was "not paying tax on income as yet undetermined and as yet not paid to Carlos". How absurd! The Japanese jsutice system needs a radical upgrade.

He was charged because he was a gaijin that tried to be a boss of Japanese people. It wasn't as if the police had been building a case against him, they never did. The Nissan Japanese executives attacked against the gaijin executives by just telling the police to arrest the foreigner. In Japan police listen to the executives and just do what they say (Confucianism). So the police arrested Ghosn even before they had looked at the evidence against him. They know that evidence doesn't matter when the accused in a gaijin. Why do you think only a gaijin was arrested, but later, Japanese executives were also charged (but not arrested).

  • @martinwinlow

Fascinating. So obvious to me at the time that Ghosn just was taking Nissan, Mitsubishi and Renault in absolutely the right direction with EVs but that there were just too many members of senior management who thought he was completely wrong that they eventually decided to get rid of him. I 'got into' EVs in 2008/9 when I converted a petrol van to electric. It was a interesting exercise that started as just an experiment, really, but ended up shaping the rest of my life. Driving that little e-van to work and back every day (45miles), it took me about a week to realise EVs were totally going to take over the world and only 3 years later I sank as much spare cash as I had into TSLA (I also bought some Renault shares at the same time, so impressed with what Ghosn was doing with EVs in the LEAF, Twizy, Zoe, Kangoo and Fluence - that didn't turn out so well as TSLA and this video goes a long way to explain why).
Meanwhile, after the van got written off in a crash with looters in the 2011 London riots, I bought a Mitsubishi i-MiEV. Quite why this fantastic little car did not sell in the millions and is not being used in vast numbers in every singe town and city the world over is a total mystery. So much talk about EV depreciation currently, yet this absolute gem of a car is still going for £3-5k over 10 years later. Again, Ghosn's insight in this video explains exactly why. Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi essentially led the traditional automotive world (ie China and Tesla aside) in terms of the EV transition for a few years and with Ghosn's demise they just threw it all away.
I really hope Ghosn gets his day in court and that the companies that he worked so hard to rebuild only for them repay his dedication and leadership by stabbing him comprehensively in the back *pay* for their gutlessness, lack of vision and dishonestly... but I won't be holding my breath.
With Mitsubishi having now pulled out of China completely and Nissan once again about to fail, I suspect even if Ghosn is vindicated, there wont be much money left to adequately compensate him.

We need to fight back to put an end to employers fraud and abuse to their own employees exposing the true aim behind their abusive attempts against young employees who can't fight back. It is important to address such issues and work towards creating fair and respectful work environments. Here are a few steps you can consider taking to fight back against employer fraud and abuse:
Document incidents: Keep a detailed record of any instances of fraud or abuse that you experience or witness. Include dates, times, descriptions of the incidents, and any supporting evidence you may have, such as emails or documents.
Know your rights: Familiarize yourself with employment laws and regulations in your jurisdiction. Understand your rights as an employee and what protections are in place to prevent fraud and abuse. This knowledge will empower you to take appropriate action.
Seek legal advice: If you believe you have been a victim of employer fraud or abuse, consult with an employment lawyer to understand your legal options. They can provide guidance on how to proceed and protect your rights.
File a complaint: Report the incidents to the appropriate authorities, such as the labor board or regulatory agencies, depending on the nature of the fraud or abuse. Provide them with the necessary documentation and evidence to support your claim.
Reach out to support organizations: Seek assistance from organizations that specialize in protecting employee rights and advocating for fair workplace practices. They can provide resources, advice, and support throughout the process.
Share your experience: If you feel comfortable doing so, consider sharing your experience anonymously or publicly to raise awareness about employer fraud and abuse. This can help shed light on the issue and encourage others to come forward.
Remember, it's essential to prioritize your safety and well-being while taking action against employer fraud and abuse. Engaging with legal professionals and support organizations can provide the necessary guidance and protection throughout the process.

It always was. More innovative, more reliable. But he really destroyed Nissan - they've produced mostly junk in the last 20 years.

@@TonyRuleJunk that people buy? He there to turn a profit. You need to blame the engineering teams. Ghosin didn't approve every single design. The quality issues are probably why Nissan was in the red to begin with.

The Japanese may want to get rid of the person who saved their company. They know very well that there are American executives who have a terrible record of corruption, but they do not dare to talk to them while they are in Japan. Carlos Ghosn was supposed to be executed and not imprisoned because he actually saved you, regardless of the expenses he used. Carlos did not affect the company

Ghosin was needed but not wanted. He did what was needed and Japan hated a gaijin saving their company. Also, listen to 12:50, that basically set the ball in motion. He also wanted to merge Renault into Nissan. That was the last straw.

Should have left Nissan in the dust. The company was dying before this man came to save them.

I loved Nissan. My first car, which I also rally preped and competed in, was a Nissan. When Ghson made Nissan back into a global superpower and presided over the return of the Z and the global GT-R, I was stoked. But when that entire plot happened I lost a lot of respect for the company and their focus on performance.

We all know how his arrest was a setup because the Japanese don't like him running the show. Maybe he should have just let Nissan go bankrupt and be taken over by some foreign company. Nissan execs are a bunch of backstabbing wolves.

I really hope that other countries other than Japan give him a chance to live normally with considering his human rights carefully. And, investigate and give him a chance to get a fair justice. I am a Japanese and I know how much Japanese government, justice system, and the culture behind public are incredibly unfair and terrible...

He got lured into a financial trap, when the general council was asked to investigate he found out they were all corrupt and stealing so he had to go as well.
    The plan backfired spectacularly.
