- Belt Sander or Belt Grinder. Building the frame made of wood.
In the next video I'll apply the engine and finish the machine.
If you like what i do you can support me at: / fromthewood -
I can sit and watch you create all day long, but then I would miss out on the fun of building things.
Nice project. Thought I'd offer a friendly tip. next time you have such snug fitting axles and bearings, you might try putting the axles in the freezer first so they contract and fit easier. thereby avoiding the risk of damaging your bearings with the hammering.
Good idea. Thanks
I really like the simplicity of the design.
Those CNC's are becoming popular! Nice build, thanks for sharing.
Vamos a ver.
I liked the video, it was very simple to understand and the music was very relaxing
Thank you
Congratulations! Very good!
great build great machine very interesting to watch as i am building a similar machine also in wood, like your workshop looks similar to mine
Great work on the sander. Please consider allowing the workshop sounds to speak for themselves, 13 minutes of the same music was too much. But I like the thought process and simple procedure of your work.
asdfg
qwerty
That looks quite easy to make and I could really need one
You're looking at these as well ;) I have found a motor that could work, so I'll have to give this a try very soon!
+Robin Coomans I'm everywhere 😂I 'll want to build one for my lathe after I build my Forge
They are quite useful, if you havent made one yet, check mine for inspiration. Quite different from this, but works very well.
nice job!
FELICITACIONES MUY BUENA LIJADORA DESDE PALMIRA COLOMBIA
Hi there from Portugal(Coimbra),
Nice :D
Obrigado(Thanks)
Nice job! I used skate-board wheels. They throw them out at your bike store when they replace them. I will send you a bandsaw.
Brilliant!
Now make one with tools that someone who needs to build a sander has.
haha, I stopped when I saw the CNC machine.
jon Q because you can think of no other way to make some discs?
could use a hole saw, drill lathe, drill press lathe, regular lathe, bench grinder and chisel to make wheels bruh
Me too! I dropped straight down to the comments!
There's one on John Heisz' site, ibuildit.ca, that he sells the plans for (I bought 'em btw). It's made with more conventional wood shop tools - drill press, bandsaw or jigsaw, tablesaw.... Interestingly, he trues up the drive wheels with a large disc sander - that he also made from scratch (and I assume sells the plans for ;-). But you could probably do that step on a wood lathe, belt sander, or even on the belt grinder you're building, as he also shows.
very good
Muy bueno!!!
never hammer a bearing, just press force
You can use pallet jack rollers . Merry Christmas
Feliz natal para ti também.
Dale loco !
measurements of the frame and rollers please? thx for the vid.
Incrivel...:D:D:D:D:D
Obrigado
Obrigado, Nas casas de rolamentos.
Great
How long have you been woodworking? Just curious, you do fantastic work. Far beyond my reach. I do enjoy your videos. This was one fine project. Thanks for sharing your expertise as well as a wealth of talent. BUT, you don't talk too much so ya?
Thanks
Thanks, I've been woodworking for about 30 years.
I'm Portuguese and I do not know how to speak English very well. I could speak in Portuguese, but then the translation with subtitles is very complicated.
Looks so easy when you have a cnc machine. How about just using hand tools?
what size bearings did u use
what the heck are the wheels made out of?
What motor did you use?
350 W motor
nice project, but i have a little question why u didnt cut main board at cnc router?
Depende do uso que lhe for dado. A precisão é aceitável.
what size bearings did you use? and whats the width of the metal rod you used?
30 mm. hole 10 mm. with: about 5cm
can anyone tell me whats the name of the song in background? shazam and soundhound identify it as some other song.........
thanx for the video, whats is the measure of the belt?
Is in the title: 2"*72"
Whats that guitar tune called??
Any need for tracking adjustment?
Yes. In the next part I will do it.
But the convex wheels reduce the need of adjustment.
Is the green roller material some kind of MDF?
Yes. hidrofuge
What is the green material the pulleys are made from? I don't think I've seen that before... and thank you for this great video.
MDF hidrofuge
I think it's water resistant MDF, and I'd like to know more about it
myself. Like is it made of wood fiber, or from 100% plastic materials ?
MDF is compressed broken-down wood fiber with a urea formaldehyde resin binder. It's quite dense, very machinable and smooth without tearout, and takes a very smooth coat of paint without sanding. It's not as strong as wood, though -- it's not great for structural use where it's under load that might flex it.
The water-resistant variety (you're correct, that's what hidrofuge means) adds other binding agents like phenols or isocyanate, which are helpful in preventing swelling which can happen in very humid environments or with exposure to water. In most cases that isn't a problem for the regular kind of MDF, but if you're worried about getting it wet (knifemakers, for example, cool blades in water and that might get from the knife to the belt to the wheel), you could probably use a drying oil (e.g. linseed, danish-oil, etc.) or paste wax finish, or maybe an exterior-grade polyurethane spray-finish to be cautious. I'm not *sure* about whether oils or solvents would affect MDF but I doubt it.
Does anyone know what the soundtrack is called and where to find it?. I've searched all over 'SafeTRACKS' and nothing, as yet.
????platen and 1 inch blades?
No tracking?
can i get detailed dimensions.... such as pulleys diameter, distance between pulleys.. etc... please as it is my clg project
Bhavik Patel dimensions aren't really helpful here. they depend on the belts you want to use. see what belts you can easily and affordably get your hand on and base your design around those belts
are you taking orders? I would like one
no. sorry.
its funny i watch these belt grinder build videos and i see lathes and specialty tools .just once i want to see someone build one with regular tools someone has in there shed. if you have lathes and other junk then why do you need a 2x72 belt sander for???
I’ve got a wood lathe - It’s ace for turning wood and I have a DIY disc sander attachment for it.
I sharpen my bench tools on diamond stone, and my turning tools using a jig on a 6” grinding wheel - but none of those items would allow me to easily shape steel into usable tools/blades quite like a 2x72 grinder.
Next time you have to cut pockets with your CNC mill, don't bother with all that work, use a forstner bit to cut most of the hole, program it in to the G-code and tell the machine to make the finishing pass. Takes a lot less time that way + saves you machine time = less wear on the machine.
Also, the wheels could be made from longboard skate wheels. Very cheap comparatively, and the Abec 5 bearings that usually come from good companies last plenty strong, certainly more than what's needed for something like a belt sander, after all, those are supposed to last at least 6 months of harsh continuous use downhill at very high speeds.
What is the background music?
safe to use UA-cam music they supply copy wright and all that stuff
Carpinteria maderas
E' bello vincere facile... 😬😬😬
Excluding all other "genius" solutions in the process of manufacturing this miracle machine (such as, for example, scoring the bearing with a hammer), I will ask only one question: why make rollers on CNC if you then roll them on a lathe? To show that "I have them"?
Because it is easier to fit the bearing into the CNC than it is to do on the lathe. And yes, because I have them. The bearings have been hammered with a rubber hammer: it does not spoil them. In addition they are Chinese.
@@FromTheWood Thanks. But not convinced.
Nice, wish I had $25,000 worth of shop equipment to make a $400 belt grinder.
you said us homemade belt sander but then you used CNC machine why not you used bits for bearings whole
But this is good made really good build like it
Thanks. because I do not have bits with the diameter of the bearing and I have a cnc. But it is easy with bits than cnc.
It's OK man you carry on your work
Where are you from
Portugal
Máquinas de Madeira ok
when you used CNC machine do this work on computer or Android mobile or iOS
From The Wood give me answer
??? ...
Just once I'd like to see a machine built without using a more expensive machine to make the parts.
Step one, get a CNC machine ;0)
Watching this guy smacking the bearings with a claw hammer made me cringe.
Got to break those bearings in right.
Spare me, we all have cbc machines.
Sure, everyone just happens to have CNC Pantograph laying around their workshop.....NOT. Cool project but get real with the machinery.Stoney
Quick let me get my CNC machine :|
Who has this kind of machinery?
knifemakers and woodworkers
you lose my interest when you use a cnc machine to produce a homemade sander.
You could use a forstner bit to open the hole for the bearing. I have not a forstner bit with 32 mm so I did it with the cnc.
I bought the plan for a similar machine from Matthias Wandel.
Yes, but that is a litle machine (see motor specs), and It is a bit complicated.
My machine is simpler in construction and is a machine to work. (see part 2)
But Matthias Wandell offers plans and you do not.
+Steven Lemon who needs plans? make a model in sketchup and make your own plans
too many things to comment upon,....
may be a good video I didn't watch because of music and no narration.
I could speak Portuguese, but you would not understand
you could leave the music off and type in some captions of what you are doing. Looks like you can read English so you should be able to type it in English
I plan to do it in the next videos, if I can do the editing.
i prefer music over captions. It looks like you have eyes so observe and watch the video.
work has never been as easy as with Stodoys instructions.
I know that woodprix has the best woodworking plans ever.
woodprix has very useful instructions with all details I need
