Appreciate the authenticity, although as someone who's been learning Spanish over the last 6 years or so, that accent puts me to the test, since the consonants aren't pronounced as much, making it harder to understand.
They used actual Colombians, they also used 450 locals to craft and build everything as authentically as possible, including 3 versions of Macondo. Its fascinating and you can really feel how authentic it is!

I read this book in the late seventies. It was one of the greatest novels I have ever experienced, and I have been a prolific reader of classic and modern literature. If you read it you will easily know it is a masterpiece.

My grad thesis was about how to get magical realism to work on film, since it kind of depends on a written narrator. So i also worked with this book, what a gift ❤
For the 5th time, I still cannot beleive this is happening !. But it seems it is happening for real !!!.. I am still puzzled how can they make a tv serious out of this monster of a book, especially a Netflix series with 8 episodes per season format and with limited number of seasons (that is also if Netflix greenlight a second season based on viewership of 1st season). So the chances are Netflix is going to mess this up. But based on trailer, they have done an impressive job. If Netflix actually get this right, we owe it to Netflix. I will be ever grateful for Netflix.
This is THE most beautiful cinematography I have seen in a long time. The richness of the colors, the warmth, the landscapes, Macondo! I love the characters and the actors. I admit that I never got past the first chapters, but Love in the Time of Cholera is one of my favorites of all time. I hope this director has his mind set on filming that one next.
"Many years later..." García Márquez never explains 'years after what?'. So the novel begins in an undefined time, followed by a flashforward and a flashback, not necessarily to the starting point. His first magic trick in the first sentence. The novel is a complete masterpiece.

Just finished Season 1. The show really helped me to understand the story. When I was reading the book, due to my lack of understanding about Latin culture and history, the story was not easy for me to understand. This TV show has presented the environment in pictures. I can see what Macondo looks like, with other detailed background information, which helped the story to make sense to me. The book was not easy to read for non-Latin people like me, but this show definitely showed me some insights in a chronological way, which is more friendly. After finishing season 2 , I’m going to read the book again and see if my feelings change.
I'm going to finish the last episode tonight. I have to say it's probably one of the greatest TV shows i've seen in my life. A real work of art. Perfect everything IMO. From the cinematography, set designs, acting and story etc. Loved it so much that I'm going to go buy the book. Please check out the series, you won't regret it!
I think so too. The language, the prose, you just can't put that onto the screen. And there isn't really dialogue in the book. It's a long, beautiful tale that sucks you in and you just go for this magical ride. But I hope Netflix at least can make a decent adaptation from this masterpiece.

No sé cómo se vaya a manejar la temporalidad en la serie, dado que en la novela es un enredo de ir y venir entre recuerdos y cambios de temporalidad de el narrador mismo; pero por el _tráiler_ infiero que, aparte de lo que define la narración circular de la obra, esta temporada no veremos nada o casi nada de la compañía bananera, pero sí veremos las guerras civiles y todo el arco de los Moscote, de manera que si se maneja el mismo orden y temporalidad de la novela, eso sería poco más del primer tercio del libro y si es como es en el libro, algún atisbo mínimo a eventos futuros.

Of all the books I have read, I expected this to the the last to be adapted into a movie or series! Not because is less than others, but because is exceptionally magic!! I never thought the limited screen could ever have the tools and power to make justice to this masterpiece 🙌 And thank GOD they hired Colombian actors or it would have been a shame to watch this Colombian treasure portrayed by white Hollywood-ians.
