There are two types of people in this world. Those who have already experienced and loved this movie And those who are yet to discover their love for it.
There are six kinds of people in this world: 1) Those who have already experienced and loved this movie . 2) Those who are yet to discover their love for it. 3) Those who have already experienced and hated this movie. 4) Those who are yet to discover their hate for it. 5) Those who have already experienced and are neutral to the movie. 6) Those who will never watch it.
A masterpiece of cinematography. The three character are so well designed and acted - Van Cleef is one of the worst villain ever depicted and Tuco is astonishing in his complexity - the score of Morricone is revolutionary and the directing is innovative in the same way of Eisenstein, Kurosawa, Fellini... There are so many iconic scenes. A movie that is a cornerstone and that hse shaped the way cinema is still done today. Many people focus on the final duel scene, surely a great shooting (my favourite duel scene is in "Once upon a time in the wests" with Fonda and Bronson) but to me the real peak is the Sand Hill scene, so powerful and full of meanings. And the scenes at the bridge or at the Mission are so dramatic but still so poetic.... What a movie!
As iconic as the Man with No Name is, Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez (known as The Rat) is one of the greatest characters to grace the silver screen. He is a hilarious comic relief, a sympathetic underdog, a greedy opportunist and a resilient badass all rolled into one. You love him, hate him, root for him, laugh at him, learn from him and connect with him. He is extremely well-written, full of personality and depth and was brought to life to maximum perfection by the Oscar-worthy Eli Wallach. He is the reason The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is the cinematic masterpiece it is, other than Sergio Leone's direction and Ennio Morricone's music.
Sure indeed! Eli Wallach was from Polish origin but portrayed perfect bandidos in The Magnificent 7, How The West Was Won and The Good The Bad and the Ugly. He always stoled the scenes. Here, as Tuco, is a delight when he stomps into the gun shop and chooses one carefully. All was ad-lib.
This movie was WAY ahead of its time. A big problem I have with pre-70s movies is that their style has aged and worn off in a way that modern audiences will find boring. This movie by contrast feels perfect in almost every way. It's dramatic, it has characters you both hate but also cheer for, it has great comedy, and the action and cinematography is stunning. Even the dubbing is great!
The best way (in fact the only way, for me) to appreciate a movie is to let IT dictate its own terms, its own time and its own style to me. In other words, allow it to return me back to the time it was made....or, in the case of films made before I was born, to what I THINK is how things were. That way you inhabit ITS world rather than shoehorn it into the present. This means I can see the true worth of a brilliant movie whether it's Seven Samurai or Kes or Blade Runner rather than, like soooo many people, being hung up on the fact whether or not it would be made today with today's 'style' of moviemaking, let alone today's society, today's politics, today's morality. Otherwise I would just end up with a narrow view of what a great movie is ie. today's style of acting, editing, CGI, etc.etc, which itself will eventually go out of date as new styles evolve. I appreciate I might be in a minority here. But I think I'm having a more interesting time, watching and indulging in movies from all eras, all nationalities, all styles, silent or sound, b&w or colour.... The secret? Let the movie transport you to its own time. A good movie isn't good simply because it's modern.
The characters are dressed like tramps whereas in the 50s and 60s westerns the actors wore pristine costumes which was totally unrealistic for the setting.
Lost count of how many times I've seen it and I always get amazed in how good is the makeup, how real the whole movie feels - you can almost feel the heat and dryness of the desert. A true masterpiece!

@@AshrafAnam I haven't really looked into it yet but I think it's really just the character's themes played over and over again. They're all played after the finale where the three characters are shown off once more, that's why I think it.
One of the best western movies. Good storyline, outstanding music, great acting by Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef, together with wonderful direction, cinematography, locations make this movie an unforgettable experience and that's the reason why the viewers keep repeating the movie over and over again.
That sinister laugh at 17:25 is the primary reason I love this movie. Lee Van Cleef was born to play this role of evil personified. Angel Eyes may have fewer kills compared to Blondie or Tuco but the fact that he sadistically kills his own employer and is audacious enough to give out a sinister laugh once he kills him sends shivers down the spine. Angel Eyes is an excellent character portrayed by Van Cleef.
I watched the 3 movies back to back thinking they were connected. Because Angel eyes gave Blondie respect and acted like they'd met before when introduced. up until the torture scene it hit me that Douglas Mortimer and Angel eyes are separate people as it would be very out of character for Mortimer to do that
Yes, I find Eastwood to be a decent enough actor, but Van Cleef as Angel Eyes (my daughter’s favourite character in the film) is better, & far more charismatic as the villain of the piece. However, both are eclipsed by Eli Wallach as Tuco! Tuco is, by far, the most memorable character in the film & the reason for this is primarily due to Wallach’s acting.
how did this movie not win at least five acadamy awards? best original screenplay, best cinematography, best original musical score, best supporting actor Eli Wallach, best director, Sergio Leone
Hollywood bias, Italians doing American westerns better then the Americans. A bit like the Judgement in Paris in 1976 when it was found out the America makes better Wine then the French!. The likes of John Wayne hated the spaghetti western for its violence but which East wood responded " the wild west was called the wild west for a reason".
Things to love about this amazing classic: Perfect use of humor, perfect use of score and soundtrack, perfect casting ,perfect editing and a great blend of suspense to make it an awesome, timeless experience,l hadn't watched it in a long time, just watched it again and fell in love all over again, kudos to the actors, the director, the set creators, the costumers and everyone that created this movie, they made it very easy to forget that it wasn't real life.
Just to put time into perspective, some people that lived in the actual wild west lived long enough to watch this movie. They would be kinda old, but still alive.
"Who the hell is that? One bastard goes in, another one comes out." "Roll it up, roll it up. I'll give you a good idea where you can put it." "I like big fat men like you. When they fall, they make more noise. And sometimes they never get up." "When you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk." Tucos's dialogues are gold!
Everybody suggest me to watch this movie so I always thought this to be a boring movie since it was almost 3hrs of time but guys i m literally blown away what a movie the characters the direction the music everything is so detailed, truly a masterpiece hats off to the makers...
I can strongly recommend the second film "For a few dollars more" the second installment in the Dollar trilogy. The first is good too but the second is just as good as this
The actors gave justice to the plot's twists & turns, screenplay & directing - a superb movie -. Lee Van Cleef, Eli Walach & Clint Eastwood after the making of this movie became sought after actors in Holywood & eventually became icons.
Watched this so many times, it's still enjoyable. There's a lot of wry humour in it, and surprisingly a few moments of real compassion - Blondie's reaction to the carnage of the Civil War, even Angel Eye's reaction to it. Or Blondie not calling bullshit on Tuco's joyous reunion with his brother. I don't think the film's star was Eastwood - It was Eli Wallach as Tuco, one of the best characters ever put to the screen.
tuco is the main character. hes inbetween being good and bad, he gets the most screen time, the most character development. he is the real protagonist, which is another reason sergio leone was such an incredible director.
I have lost count of how many times I have watched this movie. Masterpiece made was much ahead of it's time. The acting, the story and you name a thing about this movie was perfect. I like all its dialogues. They are just awesome.
It is impossible to go through all these comments, but I noticed something not many have commented about. The character of Tuco has a raw hell-for-leather courage. When he walks the street to face Angel Eyes, knowing that Lee Van Cleef has five people with him, Tuco does not wait to see if Blondie is with him or not. That took some absolutely brass-balls gumption. When Blondie catches his attention and indicates they will face-down Angel Eyes and his sidekicks together, there is a bond that forms from Tuco's side. The subtle emotions are perfectly expressed by Eli Wallach. Facing battle/war together seems to create the bond that is expressed in - "You did not desert me, my Brothers in Arms" - another incomparable master-piece in another domain - music. (Brothers in Arms - Mark Knopfler - Dire Straits). My thirst for watching westerns actually got addressed only after the internet made "infinite media volume" possible.
This is cinema. They need to make movies like these again. damn, i watched this probably 10 times. still never gets old. tuco carries this movie. i love his character and the actor. this movie filled with everything. great story, great characters, great actors, great direction and the music... this is art.
The Good - 11 Kills The Bad - 3 Kills The Ugly - 6 Kills Interesting Ratio lol Edit - Actually Tuco can get blamed for Shortys death also. so he's on 7
@@erikdevries9208 The Good had killed in self-defence and possibly very dangerous bandits. The Bad had killed innocent and actually 'harmless people' against him. The Ugly had killed just how his heart desires. And we're watching the story from 'The Good's Eyes'. So in the background The Bad possibly had killed many more innocent people and even worse, tortured many people to death.

agree In the final stand off I was scared at Blondie's life(even if we know the trope that good overpowers evil) because of how I see angel eyes as a villain and a ruthless bad guy in earlier scenes angel eyes is dangerous so I cannot underestimate him and lee van cleef's portrayal is just absolute perfect which makes the character more scary

I could never get tired of seeing this masterpiece again and again.
Very true
"(known as The Rat)" "Detto il porco" (called the pig) in the italian version
Perfect descript.
Tuco Carrie's this film from beginning to end.
Clint compliments it and Llee Van Cleff provides the sinister devilish flavour.
"If you have to shoot shoot don't talk" tuco
Modern audiences just have a low attention span
@@Blitz-dm3kv bruh, you really think it's a lack of action? I love slow movies when done right, that's really not the issue.
@@isaywhateveriwantandyougot7421He said low "attention" not action bud.
I watched this movie many times never get bored of it, all time classic. The music will be remembered throughout the generations.
Eli Wallach is such a fantastic actor, I love his performance in the scene with his brother so much. A true legend.
Lost count of how many times I've seen it and I always get amazed in how good is the makeup, how real the whole movie feels - you can almost feel the heat and dryness of the desert.
A true masterpiece!

One of the greatest films of all-time. I've watched this a hundred times and i still can't get enough. Much love from Mzansi.🇿🇦
Greatest western and one of the best films of all time.
TOTALLY TOTALLY AGREE BEST WESTERN EVER so good to see so many people think so :)
Yup
That sinister laugh at 17:25 is the primary reason I love this movie. Lee Van Cleef was born to play this role of evil personified. Angel Eyes may have fewer kills compared to Blondie or Tuco but the fact that he sadistically kills his own employer and is audacious enough to give out a sinister laugh once he kills him sends shivers down the spine. Angel Eyes is an excellent character portrayed by Van Cleef.
nicely evil
I watched the 3 movies back to back thinking they were connected. Because Angel eyes gave Blondie respect and acted like they'd met before when introduced. up until the torture scene it hit me that Douglas Mortimer and Angel eyes are separate people as it would be very out of character for Mortimer to do that
Lee van Cleef is a legendary actor
Yes, I find Eastwood to be a decent enough actor, but Van Cleef as Angel Eyes (my daughter’s favourite character in the film) is better, & far more charismatic as the villain of the piece. However, both are eclipsed by Eli Wallach as Tuco! Tuco is, by far, the most memorable character in the film & the reason for this is primarily due to Wallach’s acting.
To think that Angel Eyes and Palpatine shared the same voice actor in the hungarian version of Star Wars and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly...
I have this movie at least 50times , can't get enough of it. I watched it for the first time with my dad!
I have seen this movies more than 15 times since 1975 to till 2024....what a mind blowing movie is ????

I'm 13 and this started my love for spaghetti westerns
Watched this so many times, it's still enjoyable. There's a lot of wry humour in it, and surprisingly a few moments of real compassion - Blondie's reaction to the carnage of the Civil War, even Angel Eye's reaction to it. Or Blondie not calling bullshit on Tuco's joyous reunion with his brother. I don't think the film's star was Eastwood - It was Eli Wallach as Tuco, one of the best characters ever put to the screen.
tuco is the main character. hes inbetween being good and bad, he gets the most screen time, the most character development. he is the real protagonist, which is another reason sergio leone was such an incredible director.

the reaction of the captain when the bridge was blown up was really emotional for some reason for me

@@t__a246 peak of the type of scene where cowboys stare at each other waiting to shoot

Well, the Good is good at killing people. The Bad is not, while the Ugly always has to do things the hard way.
