    I HEAVILY disagree with the Batman take. Batman was not the same character at the end of the movie. In the beginning he was struggling to find his place as Batman in Gotham and what his purpose was, but in the end he realized that he can be a symbol of hope and that somethings can get better in the city and that he will make things better, and that’s why he’s Batman, to make things better. So he wasn’t the same in the end, he found his place. I agree it was too long

    Connor was somewhat correct that Hershey did eventually make a special chocolate bar for US troops in WW2, this special chocolate bar was never commercially sold and it was called the Logan bar or Ration D. It was designed in 1937 by Colonel Logan and the Hershey company. Logan had four requirements for Hershey's soldier bar:
    --It had to weigh 113.4 g (4oz)
    --Be high in food energy (high caloric content)
    --Be able to withstand high temperatures
    --Taste slightly better than a boiled potato (Logan didn't want troops eating the bar over their regular rations because it was meant to only be an emergency bar)
    The bar basically ended up being absolutely disgusting, very sour and bitter, even though each bar contained 600 Calories, and each soldier got three of these bars. Most soldiers would immediately throw them away, they nicknamed it the "german secret weapon" because it would absolutely obliterate your guts if you tried to eat it.
    During the Pacific Theater the US army and navy would go back to Hershey to ask for an improved flavor chocolate bar which became known as the tropical bar. They somewhat succeeded in making it taste better but the texture and hardness still made soldiers universally hate it. They would often times try to trade it to allied forces or civilians for better food. The tropical bar would be nicknamed the dysentery bar as the only time a soldier enjoyed the bar was when they were suffering from dysentery.
    Post-WW2 the US basically gave up on providing chocolate rations, the military rations technology had improved enough that they could make a tastier product in the form of energy bars that soldiers would actually be willing to eat if they had nothing else to eat. Unlike the chocolate bars where they would kinda choose starvation or hunting game to avoid having to eat the bars.

    • @sheikahblight
      @sheikahblight 2 роки тому +33

      To add to this, the reason commercial Hershey's Chocolate taste like "farts" is because America used to have to import all Chocolate from Europe. The Dairy in the Chocolate would sour on it's way, so Americans got used to this soured taste. When Hershey's began to produce Chocolate, they made it the European way, but found that since Americans preferred the soured taste. Thus, they began producing it that way.

    • @HailKosm
      @HailKosm 2 роки тому +42

      @@sheikahblight actually not quite right, although yes most European chocolates of the time would sour on the way to the US. Milton Hershey was motivated into finding a way that would make the chocolate more mass producible. It wasn't really to bring the sour taste of European important chocolate. Btw Canadian chocolate also incorporates butyric acid in some chocolate bars. It makes the chocolate easier to mass produce and more shelf stable.

      I can only wonder… how bad was this thing that was ready and already in your pocket for anyone to want to choose anything else over it??? Just rich chocolate with nuts and dried fruit maybe would be better cause it would be eaten and even if it melt melts you can just suck the melted chocolate

    • @HailKosm
      @HailKosm 2 роки тому +3

      @@heyhorinshi Well according to troop interviews the bars were very bitter and slightly sour. The sourness the troops would have been used to because Hershey made chocolate has inherent sourness but they definitely were not mentally prepared for the bitterness. And then the texture was very unpleasant. In order to make the mixture heat tolerant to 48 C, they mixed it with oat flour which made the chocolate rock hard. So rock hard in fact that even Soldiers with good teeth didn't want to bite down on it because they felt it would break their teeth. So the few soldiers that didn't mind eating it resorted to slowly shaving the chocolate bar using their combat knife.
      I think the reason why they wanted it to be heat tolerant was they anticipated needing to ship a ton of these bars all around the world and of course each soldier would carry 3 of these rations in their rucksack, if the chocolate melted it could make quite a mess in their rucksack. Melted chocolate could stain the troops hands which could then stain their firearm and make their way into the gun and potentially increase the risk of malfunction. So at the time, the military felt it would be best if the emergency rations were very heat stable.
      I personally feel that they didn't have to make it taste as bad as it did, even the later tropical bar which was slightly sweeter was still bad. Considering how much effort was needed to even eat the bar, that by itself would have prevented troops from snacking on their emergency rations.

    The “problem” with Robert Pattinson being too emo is that he’s just starting as Batman. He doesn’t know how to fully separate Batman and Bruce Wayne so that’s why it may feel like he’s being too sad.
    Also on the whole eye makeup thing, every Live action Batman has done it, the movies just don’t show it when taking off the mask. Connor is right in it hiding his skin.
    Lastly, Batman isn’t “sad” at the end, he’s just changed his mentality on how he’s perceived to the City he fights in.
    Did the movie feel too long? Yes, I agree that there are some parts of the movie that could’ve been cut. But overall, it’s a SOLID movie by itself, but as a BATMAN movie it’s great.

    For the boys who hate ironing, I actually know a trick that can help avoid it. It’s not great for like suit jackets and similar stuff, but most other things it works for fine:
    Throw the clothes in the dryer for about five minutes, then put it on a hanger. Make sure each thing is properly on the hanger. Next is the fun part: you slap it! Hold the hanger up in front of you with one hand and do a mix of hitting and sliding your other hand down each thing. Finally, hang the stuff up somewhere (not your closet) for a day or so, and you have “ironed” clothes…for some reason…

    I feel like The Batman starting the same way as it ends might win the "worst take" category for me. The pictures drawn by the monologue and the images at the end and at the beginning of the movie are the exact opposite of each other. More brutality, alienation, revenge and fear will not change a city marked by it, but hope and a visible symbol will. I can understand why some comments point out that Joey thinks Bruce's mentality was "too on the nose" for him, but the whole character development AND the development of Gotham seems to have slipped past him. The imagery, music and character development have created imo one of the scariest versions of Gotham to date, making it a stunning adaptation. And do not get me started about the cinematography! If space is at a premium, you would sacrifice the dishwasher - but the cost of a dishwasher itself is probably minor compared to the cost of a house overall (if you are buying one or having it built, anyway), and if you have the room, I guess why not?

Once I saw it mid-movie I mentally went back and realised that in basically every other Batman movie they're wearing eyeliner under the cowl (because skin-coloured eyelids while wearing a black cowl will stick out like a sore thumb) so the fact that in The Batman they didn't do what every other movie has done and just pretend that it comes off easily with the cowl gave me a better impression that the new movie would be solid on the small details.

So when TG Maverick released we booked first night seats, and after coming outta the theatre I could definitely see the special spark top gun has and why it’s such a well rounded and complete film delivering on all fronts.

    • @erika8349

      Batman has always been a detective along with his vigilante role. That’s how he’s able to get into the minds of the villain and try to solve their crimes before things escalate; however, there were times he didn’t make it or the people he loved would get seriously hurt or die. Like in The Batman, I appreciated that they showed Batman’s failures and weaknesses because that’s how he’s relatable in the comics. He didn’t always win and the villain would go back to jail or the asylum, and they’d manage to get out somehow. Anyhow, this new film was excellent! It wasn’t perfect, but they added unique elements that made it feel very close to the comics, and I really loved that! 💜✨

    The reason for Hershey's weird taste across its chocolate is due to how it's milk is processed. The short and simple is that the chemical it uses to keep its shelf life is the same chemical that gives vomit its distinct smell and taste. Hence why most people do not like Hershey's milk chocolate.

    • @lemonZzzzs
