I’ve been battling with my faith in God as I usually do, and I loved reading St Augustine’s ‘Confessions’. It’s a pretty popular one, but I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone going through similar struggles, being lost.
Why do you need someone on the internet to recommend books to you? You can look up reading lists from philosophy classes taught by world renowned thinkers for free. Have you done that?
Choosing the Plague is such a solid choice for Camus. While Myth of Sisyphus and The Stranger are more famous (and should definitely be read) the Plague is much more accessible for its format and hint of hopefulness.
Uff my man, I recommend to you the book ”estudios sobre el amor” by José Ortega y Gasset, studies about love? I’m not sure about the translation. Dear Joe and community, best wishes all. Speaking of books, although not necessarily the happiest... perhaps you might enjoy writing a post on the short story 'The Lottery' - how it might relate to real life lotteries. Each purchased lottery number is a stone to be thrown at the winner and more...
I think On Love and Burnout Society are what interest me the most, because I've suffered from depression and chronic loneliness my whole life, and the only two reactions I get from sharing these emotions are ridicule and being called an "incel" (where On Love comes in), and some hippie faux advice of "just love yourself uwu" and/or "just work on yourself uwu" (where Burnout Society comes in), so I think that if these books can help me figure out what to ACTUALLY do, I think I'd be a much happier person for it all the other books here seem interesting too, so thanks for the recommendations
Reflecting back on any books that profoundly changed the way I view life and improved it, it was always good story books those delve deep into interesting characters, not self-help ones. Nothing against self-help books, though.
It isn't surprising that your "profound books" are light fiction. Reading is, for most people, generally a waste of time, because most people don't know how to read correctly. My advice would be for you to stick to watching YT videos and making whatever widget it is you make so that you get the money to pay for your existence.
9:37 tbh, I believe Joseph Frank has got some bad interpretations, and has written somewhat without empathy, for example there is a part in his book saying Dostoevsky asked for money from his family member who was his sister's husband, and the husband wrote a letter to Dostoevsky and said he won't give him money and also said Dostoevsky becomes nothing with reading Shakespeare and Joseph had wrote in his book That Dostoevsky had sent alot of offensive letters to his sister's husband bc he blocked Dostoyevsky's way towards freedom!, however Dostoevsky simply wrote about it to his brother saying that family member had offended Shakespeare and saying "What does it have to do with Shakespeare and why should Shakespeare be mocked over his problem" And said he had written Letter of objection to him not necessarily "offensive ", however book analysis were good
I put the odds that you read more than one chapter of any of these works at 0. Reading is, for most people, generally a waste of time, because most people don't know how to read correctly. My advice would be for you to stick to watching YT videos and making whatever widget it is you make so that you get the money to pay for your existence.

Excellent recommendations thank you bunches!!
Thank you for the recommendations!!
I think On Love and Burnout Society are what interest me the most, because I've suffered from depression and chronic loneliness my whole life, and the only two reactions I get from sharing these emotions are ridicule and being called an "incel" (where On Love comes in), and some hippie faux advice of "just love yourself uwu" and/or "just work on yourself uwu" (where Burnout Society comes in), so I think that if these books can help me figure out what to ACTUALLY do, I think I'd be a much happier person for it
all the other books here seem interesting too, so thanks for the recommendations
@@angusmcculloch6653You really showed him how intellectually superior you are. We are all very impressed.
@@angusmcculloch6653 Write more concisely shitlips
@@ns1extreme It's not about proving intellectual superiority. Call it a counterpoint to consider.
@@yearningpeins2398 You missed a comma. Kind of embarrassing for you.
9:37 tbh, I believe Joseph Frank has got some bad interpretations, and has written somewhat without empathy, for example there is a part in his book saying Dostoevsky asked for money from his family member who was his sister's husband, and the husband wrote a letter to Dostoevsky and said he won't give him money and also said Dostoevsky becomes nothing with reading Shakespeare and Joseph had wrote in his book That Dostoevsky had sent alot of offensive letters to his sister's husband bc he blocked Dostoyevsky's way towards freedom!, however Dostoevsky simply wrote about it to his brother saying that family member had offended Shakespeare and saying "What does it have to do with Shakespeare and why should Shakespeare be mocked over his problem" And said he had written Letter of objection to him not necessarily "offensive ", however book analysis were good
that opening made me crack up
As a 17 year old kid I just loved it
Love your content!! can’t wait to check some of these out c: thanks for making such great videos!
I put the odds that you read more than one chapter of any of these works at 0. Reading is, for most people, generally a waste of time, because most people don't know how to read correctly. My advice would be for you to stick to watching YT videos and making whatever widget it is you make so that you get the money to pay for your existence.

You have no right to dictate if people should read books or not. Mind your own business.
