You're honestly a brilliant programmer already you just don't know it yet. Most people don't go as deep into algorithms as you have. All you need is a few more of these 'small' projects, get a little better and/or more complex each time, and boom, it just hits you. everything will just click. you're a hire-able programmer. (you understand this stuff more than me and i have a job, trust me, them projects will push you over the hump) Cool first project btw!
You know, it's actually perfectly fine to start small. I'm not following you to learn how to manipulate stack pointers using syscalls in the Kernel. I'm here because it's interesting to see you improve and figure out how to get better at programming. We've all been there at some point. So don't be afraid to post more simple or small projects. It's fun seeing you improve. :)
Overthinking is something I've struggled with in the past too. The important thing is what you learn from your projects, not how complex they are or if people will like them. Glad you had fun making this!
Your learning and programming, and developing the project screens in drawings is the exact same way I go about programming. I love that Hello World idea!
Your Videos Motivated me, I am someone that suck at programming. Watching you stuck at problems and solving , kinda made me feel better that I am not alone in this programming thing. BTW I love your eyes.
I prefer your version of why we all start at "Hello World". When I was a kid (and pretty much still today) I always felt like the machine was coming to life as well.
People will literally watch your streams even if you don't say anything. "Study with me" videos exist and help me personally to stay focused on whatever I'm doing :)
This would actually be a nice project for p5.js, I was looking for an excuse to use it and drawing spoopy things to the canvas looks like the perfect use case for it
I didn't know about "Figma". Not sure if I need it. But if it can be described as a "Photoshop for programmers" I will check it out... or write it in my side project list :D Either way - thanks for sharing your yourney, its actually wery relateable... Skål!
Well, you have picked a perfect theme for your channel, Maria. I mean everybody has to know the weird stuff we programmers endure each and every day, right? 😄
Pro-tip, if you use anything that isn't Angular, the whole process will be way simpler. Angular's score is getting worse year by year in "The State of JavaScript", people that tried Angular and then anything else will tell you the same thing. Svelte, Vue, React, Preact, Solid ... any other framework is better than Angular for lots of reasons. You can still use the beautiful TypeScript with all of them, so you don't lose that :D
A lot of people make 2d games and that's a good project for OOP and multiple files and using assets. But, you can also duplicate things that already exist. Like if you are interested in systems programming and interacting with *nix kernel api and X/wayland you could rewrite some of the basic unix systems utils, or a terminal emulator, or frame buffered app. Or if interested in robotics or automation could get a simple 8 bit MCU emulator. Or web dev or server utilities / database / backend stuff or crawlers / scrapers interacting with vrious web apis. just some ideas.
Alpha Squirel here. Been watching your video for 2 and a half minute so far. Its been a lot of funsies. I think am developing a new mental skill now. oh deer
I've been a professional coder for ~4 years now, and I'd be fucked without Google. Never feel ashamed of googling things, it's how you learn and find new information. Secondly, having individual functions to toggle specific screens is perfectly reasonable. If your functions were multiple lines and involved a long complicated process, I'd simply make one function that handles the complicated logic, then have individual functions for each screen. Plus, in the future, if you ever need to add extra logic to render a specific screen, you can add it directly without upsetting the rest of your code base.
you should still stream! if you want! I follow someone who just codes in silence except for the occasional comment and I'm sure others would find it cool if you try :)
I've only used a React a little bit, but I really really don't like it. Note sure if it's anything like Angular. A lot of web technologies seem like they aren't very well designed. E.g., JS. CSS is really good though.
I like the storytelling on how you come up with the idea,. I sometime struggle the most at finding an idea. I'm not gonna improve by standing still and keep planning doing a big project that is not gonna be finished, so finding small idea and improve it bit by bit open my eyes.
