Not gonna lie, the actor for Helmeppo seems on point for me. Also it's clear that Netflix looked into what Oda said about the Straw Hats if they were real. Luffy:Brazil Zoro: Japan Nami: Sweden Ussop: Somewhere from Africa (Oda's words) Sanji: French The actors themselves are mostly American with the exception of England and Mexico. Still, good choices.

Well considering they tried to match (as much as possible) the races of the cast to the ones Oda envisioned and we know that Robin is supposed to be Russian, it wouldn't surprise me if they cast an actual Russian actress. There are a lot of Russian journalists, writers, singers, actors and other entertainers fleeing Russia anyway so they could easily snag someone talented for an affordable price and get someone with both a good Russian accent and look and someone who will understand running from a powerful government which will make the character extra authentic. I mean they already got 5 main StrawHats who basically embody their characters. Mackenyu is somewhat stoic, Emily is a perfectionist who plays the long game (she had plans of being Nami for a long time), Jacob is a great storyteller, Taz is affectionate and caring, and Inaki is basically sunshine. If they get an actress who has that dark morbid deadpan Russian humor that we know and love about Robin, I would be happy.

There are others but I think these are the more popular shows. He also has 11 writing credits including the shows mentioned plus X-Files. Owens has 5 writing credits including Luke Cage, Agents of Shield and the Defenders Make do with that information what you will

For someone doing their due diligence you deceptively left out the third creator. Oda himself. He's made several trips to South Africa (where it's being filmed) to talk to the creators and plan. One Piece is his property, there is no way in hell he's going to be hands off for this.

Any idea why they changed Nojiko from white to black? If it is for representation for poc, I feel like true representation is not changing the character to have representation, but to add on to the character as a whole. It's too bad more people aren't making more movies or shows with poc characters to make it that they can have representation without removing the skin color of a character to do so.
It works for the character and the story, because Nojiko and Nami are not related by blood, and it adds something interesting to their sisterhood that they look like they are not related, but are still sisters through and through. I think it's a very smart choise. And also Chioma is gorgeous and amazing so why should anyone complain about the casting?

Any idea why they changed Nojiko from white to black? If it is for representation for poc, I feel like true representation is not changing the character to have representation, but to add on to the character as a whole. It's too bad more people aren't making more movies or shows with poc characters to make it that they can have representation without removing the skin color of a character to do so.
It works for the character and the story, because Nojiko and Nami are not related by blood, and it adds something interesting to their sisterhood that they look like they are not related, but are still sisters through and through.
I think it's a very smart choise. And also Chioma is gorgeous and amazing so why should anyone complain about the casting?
@@Ruffeep because it isn't good representation. Instead of making a story with a black character, they changed a character's skin color to represent another skin color. I find that more disturbing than anything else. It's the same about The Little Mermaid live action.
A lot of people don't like representation that involves changing an already existing character's skin color to match. People would prefer actual representation, instead an after thought change
