Wanda has been my all time favorite since the first time she appeared on AOU. And everytime they had her in one of the movies and just treated her as this side character that was very underused it pissed me off. And I always felt so much what she was feeling with everyone never being there for her. She constantly sacrificed her own happiness for others and no one was ever there for her in the end. I share a lot of that with her in my own life. I love everything about Wandavision, I loved her finally getting something that was mainly all about her. And I loved this movie. Obviously there was things that needed to be changed with the story but there wasn’t a time that Wanda wasn’t on screen that I literally didn’t have a huge smile on my face. I know she will be back cause they literally just introduced the scarlet witch but it’s sad for me that it’s gonna be probably a couple years before we get to see her again. The current line up of movies and shows with exception to Agatha show I’m just not that excited for. I could easily just watch all Wanda movies and be happy with it.
actually Hawkeye was kinda there for her, what annoyed me is that Hawkeye was underused and was barely in her life. Knowing Clint, he wouldn't have left her alone after all she's been through
This is a very interesting discussion for me cause as a young gay kid growing up in the 70's, I was very much drawn to The Scarlet Witch in the comics. She was a model in terms of uncompromising love despite condemnation from "normal" society.
I hope they revisit this topic and talk about her kids coming back, at this point Joe Locke (from Heartestopper”) has been cast as teen Billy and Kit has also been rumored to be casted as someone else. I’m excited to see Billy in Agatha and hopefully Wanda comes back and gets a solo movie.
Alastair is such a golden retriever and I can totally see the similarities. You are so Nick Alastair. I love Heartstopper, such a wholesome and beautiful TV series.
I got to work on Dr Strange 2, and was so lucky to have gotten to see it at the cast and crew screening. It was the most electic theater experience I've ever had!
The key plot point that I hate they never addressed was they never explained why Wanda couldn't have just recreated her kids. She was more powerful than when she first created them, so why couldn't she build her hex away from others and recreate her kids in it? I can understand if in recreating them they would not be the same kids as the ones she lost, but the kids she's trying to claim aren't the same ones either. I wonder if just recreating them would not have been sufficient for her. Maybe what was driving her was not her love for her children but her shame and regret for not doing everything possible to protect them. She wasn't able to protect her kids in this universe so she wanted to take over the role of a Wanda that was able to protect them in order to alleviate her of her guilt.
In WandaVision she can create reality only if they are in a spell bubble. If the kids go outside that bubble they don’t exist. So she can manifest reality but her powers can’t make those realities real.
Making another hex family won't be good for Wanda's sanity, because she'll ultimately know they aren't real & that they'd only exist within her magical space. Wanda, like any mom, grew attached to the kids she made & doesn't want new ones. She wants the kids she made & wants real kids, so they don't ever vanish, like they did with the hex in Westview.
@@xiamariansupreme72 First, we don't know if the kids she was after were also tied to a hex. Second, the way Agatha described it, Wanda tied her kids to the Hex which is why they disappeared when she took the Hex down. Third, they never state that she couldn't re-manifest her kids free of the Hex. If the alt Wanda's kids aren't tied to a Hex, why could our (far more powerful) Wanda do the same?
@@jareddraper5241 Probably because the other Wanda, Earth 838 Wanda, actually naturally had kids, whether that be from a partner or, heck, even through IVF. 🤷♀️ 838 Wanda never needed a hex, cause she didn't go through what our Earth 616 Wanda went through. On Earth 838, Ultron was a success & Thanos was killed, therefore no Vision was made, no Vision was killed, 838 Wanda's brother wasn't killed, she never fought Thanos, never took over Westview and probably never even met Agatha, therefore never becoming the Scarlet Witch. 838 Wanda had a happy life, free of grief & trauma, unlike our 616 Wanda, so 838 Wanda had no reason to make a hex. Her kids are real and probably were humanly conceived. That's why the kids exist in every Earth world, except Earth 616. 616 Wanda's Hex kids were basically like the multiversal prototype for the real versions of Billy & Tommy in every other Earth world.
@@jareddraper5241 Only 616 Wanda tied her kids to the hex, cause she made the kids first, magically though. 616 Wanda magically making the kids probably changed the timelines for other Earth worlds, inadvertently causing other Wanda's to have real kids in contrast to 616 Wanda's hex kids. Again, other Wanda's could've easily had a man and split up or something, or they could've gone through IVF. I don't know, anything's possible. Regardless, other Wanda's kids are real, non hex kids.
Seeing Alastair start to tear up at 8:35 just listening to Zach discuss Buffy/death was so precious, and yes I totally see the Nick comparison. Heartstopper is gold.
I see lots of people saying that we should have seen Wanda slowly be corrupted by the dark hold or that MOM ruined her character arc , but imo that was besides the point. Not the same, but if u saw somewhere sitting with a bunch of alcohol at the end of a film and in the next they are an alcoholic, u don’t need much more information about that. I also think they do a really great job of showing how the point of this film in terms of, especially Wanda’s character, was to face the darkest version of yourself and that as real as mental health is, it isn’t an excuse for u to do bad things Loved this podcast though, it’s cool to hear others opinions on her character and a nice refresher of her story so far ❤️❤️
The post-credit scene should have given us Wanda lovers some hope!! The post-credit scene should have been her walking down the street and Billy and Tommy, now teenagers walking past her and her turning around and then a blank screen! Something that gives us comfort till we see her again!
Zach, I know you and your husband, Alastair are talking about the character, Wanda Maximoff from the 2014 film, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier", it's played by Elizabeth Olsen, who is the youngest sister of my idol, Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen after she was introduced for being an uncredited cameo and she appeared in six films, she had the lead role from the Disney+ original miniseries, "WandaVision". Alternative versions of her appear in the animated series, "What If...?" last year in 2021 and "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness". So you told him about Elizabeth's character of Wanda, she had been well received and she had earned a number of accolades for her performance, notably being nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award last year back in 2021 and a Golden Globe this year, so I'm proud of you and I love your Southern accent!!
My relate character: Patrick Brewer, Schitt's Creek. Just a guy who eventually figures out and accepts that he likes guys. Took me a LONG time to accept and not quite totally there. If people met him they'd have no idea he's gay. He's not into interior design (me), not into fashion (very me and you guys!😀), likes sports (me), handyman (me and you guys). Now, he's an extrovert and fearless and I am very not either of those things. But he gives me hope. Another great show. Thanks.
I literally agree with everything you said and share the same discontent about the movie and how it should have been a Scarlett Witch movie and all that. Wanda the character speaks to me like none other in the whole MC universe and the way I wish there have been more of a build up of her taping into darkness with her character ( I too understand the she has been influenced and corrupted by the Darkhold and all that) drives me nuts. With that said, Elizabeth Olsen acted her heart out as Alastair pointed out and this is probably the only movie ever where I consciously root for the villain and don’t give a damn about the so called good people at all. I lost my shit when Wanda was reunited with her kids and cried my heart out when she was being comforted by the other Wanda, the only person who understands her grief in the whole multiverse, my poor Wanda. Also, I live for this badass Wanda, the way she tears the Illuminati apart like tissue with merely her limited power because that body of her isn’t used to the almighty power of Scarlet witch, according to Elizabeth Olsen herself in this interview ua-cam.com/video/iTQZOxL-vTU/v-deo.html . And she delivers so many iconic lines in the movie like "You have no idea just how reasonable I have been." "Good. There will be someone left to raise them." “What mouth?" I can go on and on with Wanda. To me, she is real and that’s all that matters. Alastair, I was brought back instantly to the last episode of Wandavision when you did your famous crying expression again, I can recall vividly how I cried my heart out with you guys during the watch along. I said it before and I will say it again, Wanda is my favourite superhero/villain of all time and nothing is gonna change that. I like Alastair’s vision of how the storyline of Wanda could evolve in the future and I hope it happens like that. if Wanda has a million fans, then i am one of them. if Wanda has ten fans, i am one of them. if Wanda has one fan, i am that one. if Wanda has no fans, i am no longer on this earth. if the world is against Wanda, i am against the entire world.
First of all....dig the shirts..woof. Thank you gents for making my morning...honestly...i just can't get enough. The both of you mesmerize me with your passion and feeling for the entire wanda story...love it. How lucky are you both to have found each other at such a young time in your story lines...so happy and grateful for you both.
I understand wanting Wanda to find peace & happiness after all she has gone through up until the end of Wandavision but after the multiple mass murders in MoM I think that is simply not possible anymore. I personally don't think making her a mass murdurer was the right thing to do, I know she's supposed to have been controlled by the darkhold and all that but I don't think that's a good enough excuse since there was no build up to that at all, she's just suddenly a villian. I was hoping that Wanda's evil actions were the result of some other being's influence, like Chthon or something, who would turn out to be the actual primary antagonist of the movie, I even thought Strange was going to use the book of the Vishanti to recreate her kids to snap her out of Chthon's control and she would help defeat him but that turned out to just be a red herring and Wanda is just a possibly-irredeemable mass murdurer now???
I'm glad you guys know about all this stuff. I have no idea of any of them but the comments tell me that you know what you are talking about. What I don't understand is why your subscribers never go up
Hi Alastair, hey Zack. The last Spider-Man was so insanely good that everything Marvel kinda lost a bit for me. I do understand completely what you Zack said about Buffy and grief and the sadness I felt with a tragic death in my childhood. You both work really hard researching each topic for every episode. I've truly been impressed. Continued success and best wishes always. P.S. what does Brando think about apartment living?😅
i actually really agree on the rules being useless. i understand that the whole thing with comic books is that everyone always comes back to life eventually, and these are comic book inspired movies, but it does feel like theres sometimes no consequences. definitely dont want an alternate universe wanda to become the main wanda for the exact reason you said - we have been on a journey with *this* wanda. they probably could have somehow brought kids into this universe, they can do everything else.
I like coming-of-age stories the most. That's the best way to get attached to a character, them going through life and through difficulties, learning stuff about themselves.
During lockdown, I watched the Marvel movies, had watched only a few b4. I felt like I became a part of the Marvel Universe & this was solidified with Wandavision. I want to see the new Dr Strange movie with Wanda, I feel Wanda is more victim than villain, who just wants what we all want, our own little corner of the world filled with love. Good show men. Really enjoyed this one.
New subscriber, (have subscribed to channels by you and Alastair) and I just saw your Scotty Bower video and am watching this one. Amazing content you put out, thank you! Oh, I was stationed at Ft. Bliss for three years, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Buffy had a hard road that I can relate to, Angel was my fantasy boyfriend, but I probably see a lot of who I became in James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause. I know. Ugh.
Nicely done guys, very comprehensive, would love to get your take on Bob Mizer and A.M.G. think it would be a good companion piece to your Scotty Bowers episode, continued success.
THANK YOU! I think a lot of people who didn't like it went into the theater expecting this to be a Russo Bros film, but at its core, it IS a Sam Raimi film, and as a fan of horror/comedy, I appreciated a lot of it. Here's hoping her redemption arc isn't too far out!
It's very nice to have two shows per week from you lovely boys. Shows that are fun and happy, and from a gay perspective. Your chats lift our day, get us off to a good start. Kisses and Hugs from Tasmania.
I can’t speak to the Marvel stuff here because I don’t really know it at all (though a friend did have a small role on the WandaVision show that makes me want to at least watch it), but I can speak to having characters one identifies with in movies and TV and how difficult that is when you’re gay. Being older, I really didn’t have that many characters I could relate to growing up or through much of my adult life, and oddly, it’s only been fairly recently that I’ve been able to feel that, usually with much younger characters. The one who I have most strongly identified with is Simon Spier of “Love, Simon,” even though his situation is very different from what mine was. Still, I felt seen for the first time, or at least felt that my teenage self had finally been seen. Since then a number of other shows, like “Heartstopper,”have presented aspects of young gay characters who I could identify with my younger self, and in a lot of ways it’s been cathartic, as well as a little melancholy, for me.
"..STOP SCREWIN' THE HEAD OF THE NETWORK..." (2:28) ...funny, I thought One HAD to do that! ...ha-HAAA! "😆" (2:32) ...Oh, it's so nice to see you Kids HAPPY again! "😁"
Morning gentlemen, as usual love the presentation: interesting question Zach I for some reason maybe because I am queer always attached myself to great friendship, inclusion movies. I could see me as Frodo, or characters like that. Part of an amazing close team working to achieve something. You guys are creating the best series on u tube. Alastair I could see u two in Scotland wearing your kilts (you guys would wear kilts very well), and you both want to live somewhere with greenery. Scotland is beautiful. Haven’t seen this movie yet, but will watch. Have a wonderful week see u Friday or on Instagram lol.
I liked the movie, it surely was interesting. However, the horror element did not work for me, it wasn't scary, mainly because her image is not the one of a villain for me, she's a sad/tortured character that made bad decisions. Also, it doesn't make sense to deconstruct the character to do it again in the movie. But that's just my opinion. I love Wanda and hope she's not dead.
Iron Man provided weapons that caused hundreds of thousands of deaths, Black Widow was an assassin who killed thousands of people, Hulk slaughtered more than either of them. Wanda had a very very low body count compared to any other Avengers (before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and she somehow gets blamed for the accident in Winter Soldier although she was trying to save lifes and didn't kill anyone in WandaVision... the way she's been made into a villain when much worse crimes by other Avengers are not even mentionned...
Damn. Love the in depth video about Wanda. But I disagree that Wanda definitely was a villain in WandaVision and Dr Strange M.O.M. You can't just take a town hostage and be a good guy. Doesn't make sense. I get it she was in grief, but still.
I'm still gutted that Aaron Taylor Johnson as Pietro was killed off in Age of Ultron. So many Marvel characters come back from the dead or feature in retrospectives but not him.
Alister you're Zander, Zach took me a few to find a fit for you but Black Panther, not a perfect fit but I like it. Also, what's on your shit, Alister has Marvel - you👍
Many people don't understand when a writer is writing a character the writer is real and he's putting real life stuff into a character's emotions and their personality traits. Remember the rule of thumb about writers "Writers Write what they Know" With Buffy I love thet series hate It season 6 it was the worst season in my opinion out of all the show. Jared Spike with a passion. But the character I completely related to was a character of Faith Lehane. She came from a very bad background she had an alcoholic mother but my father was the alcoholic an abusive one. She grew up in foster homes. So did I. The episode of the body I'll only watched once I can never watch it because my mom died at the same age Buffy's mother Joyce passed away. It nearly destroyed ne watching it. I always bypass that episode. The character of Wonder Woman has been my favorite comic books character ever but now with Wanda in the MCU she pushed her to second place. Because Wanda's pain is relatable on a human level. So much loss. I'm Gay also btw. I loved WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2 and the Multiverse of Madness
you 2 are better than tv......love the banter between yall....😁zach hunny, you are so not clarice, zach hunny(i just love sayin that) would you re-consider you guys getting a contact p.o.box alot of us would like ro have a chance to send a card or something you two are the only reason i come ro utube... *kiss
i'm a hardcore wanda stan but this movie makes it hard for me to defend her because it's not everyone's fault for disliking her but i'm still gonna call out the double standards lmao-
The one thing I hate is that no one literally no one in the mcu wants to give Wanda any sympathy or empathy for everything she has been through, which is why I perfectly understand everything she did. #wandasvillainera=myvillainera
You have to take into consideration that Wanda had a year and a half to learn from the Darkhold WandaVision happened in November 2023 in the MCU timeline Far From Home happens in Spring of 2024 No Way Home happens in the Winter of 2024 Multiverse of Madness happens in the Spring of 2025 That is a whole year and a half for Wanda to get corrupted enough to become what we were given in the movie. To me at least ❤️ PS: AND I LOVED EVERY BIT OF HER
Marvel treats its female protagonists very badly, up to and including killing them off, to a much greater percentage than their male characters. If feels somewhat misogynistic and anti-woman of them. After all they did to Wanda, I was surprised that she didn't go medieval on them sooner!
Captain Carter: I can do this all day!
Wanda: Only 10 seconds

Nicely done guys, very comprehensive, would love to get your take on Bob Mizer and A.M.G. think it would be a good companion piece to your Scotty Bowers episode, continued success.
Nice pod. Hope y’all will cover heartstopper more in depth as well. I loved it.
We gays love Wanda.
I also call it Wanda in the Multiverse of Madness!!! Great episode 👏, I'm 100% with you. the Westview people were ungrateful
THANK YOU! I think a lot of people who didn't like it went into the theater expecting this to be a Russo Bros film, but at its core, it IS a Sam Raimi film, and as a fan of horror/comedy, I appreciated a lot of it. Here's hoping her redemption arc isn't too far out!
Yes I agree you are very nick nelson ♥️
It's very nice to have two shows per week from you lovely boys. Shows that are fun and happy, and from a gay perspective. Your chats lift our day, get us off to a good start. Kisses and Hugs from Tasmania.
Yea we can’t blame Wanda 🥹 We still need a Scarlet Witch film
Deadpool his use of dark humor to hide his pain
Have you guys seen "the old guard' on netflix. Its action with wonderful LGBT rep. Has a pair of immortal husbands :)
❤️❤️
Sorry guys this is not my thing see you Friday
Iron Man provided weapons that caused hundreds of thousands of deaths, Black Widow was an assassin who killed thousands of people, Hulk slaughtered more than either of them. Wanda had a very very low body count compared to any other Avengers (before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and she somehow gets blamed for the accident in Winter Soldier although she was trying to save lifes and didn't kill anyone in WandaVision... the way she's been made into a villain when much worse crimes by other Avengers are not even mentionned...
I relate alot to wanda I feel like she is judged alot but I feel like most people would do what she did if they could have the perfect life
I dress up and I always do and no one does. It makes me sad :(
I keep thinking "stop interrupting Alistair. Let him finish his sentences"
I JUST WANT WANDA TO HAVE A HAPPY ENDING!!! IS THAT TOO MUCH ASK????? 😭😭😭
Not my cup of coffee, but hey they all don't have to be right, I loved your hackney intro Zach, good job Governor, I'm a fan regardless......
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
I think you two should pull Bucky into your lives.
Your next subject should be Joan Sutherland. For balance.
Remember the rule of thumb about writers "Writers Write what they Know"
With Buffy I love thet series hate It season 6 it was the worst season in my opinion out of all the show.
I loved WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2 and the Multiverse of Madness
you 2 are better than tv......love the banter between yall....😁zach hunny, you are so not clarice, zach hunny(i just love sayin that) would you re-consider you guys getting a contact p.o.box alot of us would like ro have a chance to
send a card or something you two are the only reason i come ro utube... *kiss
Their banter is the best I swear haha, incredibly hilarious yet endearing.
i'm a hardcore wanda stan but this movie makes it hard for me to defend her because it's not everyone's fault for disliking her but i'm still gonna call out the double standards lmao-
Wanda is an awesome xter, I left the cinema feeling like marvel held back! they are not taking themselves seriously enough. 💔
Clint should have sacrificed himself in Endgame, not Natasha.
Being blond is being part of a special minority. It is colourfull. All of Alastairs colours are beautifull.
The one thing I hate is that no one literally no one in the mcu wants to give Wanda any sympathy or empathy for everything she has been through, which is why I perfectly understand everything she did. #wandasvillainera=myvillainera
You have to take into consideration that Wanda had a year and a half to learn from the Darkhold
WandaVision happened in November 2023 in the MCU timeline
Far From Home happens in Spring of 2024
No Way Home happens in the Winter of 2024
Multiverse of Madness happens in the Spring of 2025
That is a whole year and a half for Wanda to get corrupted enough to become what we were given in the movie. To me at least ❤️
PS: AND I LOVED EVERY BIT OF HER
Marvel treats its female protagonists very badly, up to and including killing them off, to a much greater percentage than their male characters. If feels somewhat misogynistic and anti-woman of them. After all they did to Wanda, I was surprised that she didn't go medieval on them sooner!
Great review again guys! When you are passionate - it just comes across so strongly!
