I have store-bought knees...i am unable to use them in any meaningful way...but this did help ...
I have bad hips and knees. I fell today and literally could not use knees or arms (injured in 2003) to get myself up. My son had to lift me and I'm a hefty gal. I'm trying to find advice if you literally can't get on your knees. I did finally roll over from a prone position and managed to get to my knees but my legs would not move, would not lift. A little scary.
Sometimes I have to sit on the floor to do work like today. But I pretty much get down and up the same way you do. But I would like to get up without the aid of a stable object if I can. I'm 75 and am about 50 pounds overweight. Thanks for your confirmation video. It should be a great help for those who has problems getting up off the floor. Keep up the good work.
It is of no help if the issue is your back.
Try getting up without using your KNEES …please do a video …as most of us are in a bad shape especially with bad KNEES …..not to hard surely
Hi @lyndavis6859. This resource includes a pictorial guide on what to do if you can't use your knees: www.healthpromotion.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Fall-at-home-poster-final-Opt-Web-April-2020.pdf
If you can’t do any of the moves on the poster and you cannot get up or seek help from anyone, then we would advise calling an ambulance.
I was on my back and couldn't turn to my side to to pain but I found I could bring my knees up and rock forward until I had the momentum to sit up. I'm pretty young but I have a disease that causes pain. Just figured I'd mention for anyone else who might land here under similar circumstances 😅
O
Good job . You are intelligent.
Seems like good advice !
Im trying to do leg and hip exercises to build strength. Part of the reason i couldn't get up before was lack of muscle strength. These exercises can ge done lying in bed.
Does not work if you have horrible knee pain.
Yes knee problems are often ignored in these videos, especially if they are very inflexible. I see this was 2 years ago, but here are some links having to do with the Feldendrais method. The first two show techniques that are quite good and the other one (Improving ability) is a channel that has very slow methodical ways to build toward a movement, in this case demonstrated in one of the included videos. All three are based in Feldendrais method.

@@dreamingrightnow1174 that's the video with the spiral method of regaining your feet without having to use your knees....I cannot kneel on my implanted bionic knees, but I managed to get to my feet using what I remembered from watching it!

Perfect
excelant thank you
At last, a common-sense instructional video. No mindless American jabber going on for 5 minutes about what might happen if you fall; we know that. Keep up the good work.
Yeah, I wonder why they talk about what might happen if we fall. It's after the fact.
"No mindless American jabber ..."
Gee, thanks for categorizing 330 million people as being the same.
@@josephgaviota People love to hate Americans.
Most falls by seniors are in bathrooms, toilets where the floor is wet, also when they fall in bathrooms and toilets nobody knows until it's too late. Show us how to get off a wet slippery bathroom, or shower stall.
Yes, my worst fall (I fractured my L4 vertebrae) was in the bathroom. I couldn't find a way to get up, so i ended up calling the paramedics and had them help me up and then take me to the emergency room.
Two of my other bad falls were outside in my driveway. The first one, my roommate helped me up, which was a miracle because he's 70 years old and at that time i weighed nearly 285 pounds and my ankle was injured in the fall. The other driveway fall, my roommate and a neighbor got me up and then my roommate drove me to the emergency room. That was six weeks ago and i haven't been able to walk ever since.

Yes, breaking bones hinders rising - just a touch 🙃😉
@@johnk.2508Have u considered seeking chiropractic help--u may be surprised at what they can do !! 😮😊
With rheumatoid knee pain we can never bend our knees on the floor to push up the body.
I am seeing a lot of videos on HOW to get up off the floor--thank you
However very few show exercises needed to strengthen parts of ones body needed to get up more easily.
I am a 72 yr old woman trying to assist my body as it ages. I prefer to live alone and stay independent.
So assist me to assist my body as it ages

Notice there are no replies. Not a good sign.
I used to fall on ice out in the parking area at work a lot. I learned to look to see what it looks like out there. Take shorter steps. Then try not to fall. I fell one time and then slid to the bottom end of the lot. Somehow I crawled back to where my truck was. I'm in my mid-sixties and every winter I worry about falling out there.
Have you tried Yaktrax or other kinds of rubber and metal shoe grips?
Please use YakTrax on the bottom of your boots. My elderly father kept them on his boots and he could walk on a sheet ice driveway without slipping. They really do work! I use them every winter to walk safely on slick or icy ground.

Great fashion and beauty))
Unless your younger when like near or in the 80's your joints hurts too much to raise up . I never have seen an older person been able to do it yet.
Hi @maryannbjorgaard9553. In case this helps, the following resource includes a pictorial guide on what to do if you can't use your knees: www.healthpromotion.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Fall-at-home-poster-final-Opt-Web-April-2020.pdf
However, if you or someone you know cannot raise up through too much pain, we would advise having a plan in place if you do fall, such as having a personal alarm, or an object in reach that you can use to alert a neighbour by banging the wall, for example, or a phone nearby to call for help. If you are in pain, please call an ambulance.
@@CCHealthPromotion Thanks for writing back to me. I live on a small farm and work outdoors a lot. When I have fallen outdoors I try and find something I can lean/push myself up on to help get myself up and so far its worked for me. This year I'm trying to use a walking stick and it helps. For me it seems I've lost some muscle strength in my legs and it hurts when trying to get up.
What if you can’t do the legs
Yes it's right I lay on the floor all night for 10 hours rang 111 no one came I couldn't get Y because I couldn't get on my knees no matter how hard I tried I have fibromyalgia whitch didn't help ..so please tell us how to get of the floor without using our knees
Hi there. This resource includes a pictorial guide on what to do if you can't use your knees: www.healthpromotion.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Fall-at-home-poster-final-Opt-Web-April-2020.pdf
If you can’t do any of the moves on the poster and you cannot get up or seek help from anyone, then we would advise calling an ambulance (000).
If there are any stairs nearby crawl to them then slowly put your feet on the stairs 2-3 steps down and carefully stand up
2 knee replacements.
2nd one 5 years ago.
I'm fit etc.
But find it very difficult to get up off the floor.
Any advice 🤔
Hi @graceamora456, while for individually tailored advice we would advise speaking to your doctor, you may find this resource helpful which shows what to do if you can't use your knees: www.healthpromotion.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Fall-at-home-poster-final-Opt-Web-April-2020.pdf

I am 84 and when I go down, I like using a stool to get back up. Also your fire department will respond and help you too.
And... If you have sprained/broken your wrist and can't bear weight on it, YIKES! That happened to me.
What if u dont have furniture

I fell on an uneven patch of ground and managed to get up without putting any weight on either of my store bought knees! This spiral method works!
Should demonstrate with a person who has problems NOT with a person is not physically challenged
why do people take these guys seriously but others who give the exact same advice get chewed out
We all know how to crawl!
nice try, but as a senior not one of all these videos help.. mainly because you make it look easy because not one of you * young people* have a disability.. therefore you will never GET the true effort it takes to get up from a fall... keep trying though..
I got up today by crawling to the sofa but my getting up really was hard on my left foot which took the weight. I am a stroke survivor and my right side is weak.
This is such a joke. Let's see an average 75 year old woman who doesn't work out regularly do this. Younger people have no conception of what it is like to have virtually no muscles❗❗❗
