God bless that sweet lady, I am in the same boat as her. 2 knees replaced, cannot kneel on them. I fell and try as I may I could not get myself up, crawled to the couch and tried but did not have the strength to get myself up. I am 82.

My PT made me learn to kneel on both knee replacements. Just for when I fall. Practicing made a difference. When I fall,I did NOT panic. I took my time as I scooted over to the couch. I visualized a successful turn, kneel and push up to the couch. I did it! I still practice, what a difference that made for this 69 y/o!😂😂
Both of my shoulders are wrecked,so I really take my time, knowing it's a problem let's me plan ahead.🍀🍀🍀🍀

Scooting over to stairs works for those of us with double knee surgery. There’s a handrailingnto help lift oneself and it’s a short distance to elevate the butt. This lift looks like it’s worth a try if one falls a lot. I’d use a walker for additional support while getting onto feet. Also, it looks a little shaky, so a help would be nice.

I was wanting to purchase a bath lift for my daughter with MS and this will be perfect. She could take it out of the tub after use and bring it back when she needs it. Plus if she falls her son could just bring it to her and the ambulance does not have to be called to lift her up. WOW.

Texas here. Once when my mom fell I got the twin blow up mattress along side her. Then a flat sheet under her to pull her onto the mattress. This mattress is auto fill an the height is 30”! It worked good an no firemen were needed. Dead weight is no joke. This chair looks promising tho.

Question. I am asking seriously. Did you put her on it while non-inflated and inflate it with her on it? My husband is too heavy for me to try to pick up without killing by back. Have to call V.F.D. . If it is safe to inflate while on it, I will buy one. If not I won't . Thank you for any information. Take care. 🕊️

Nifty idea! More likely useful for a caregiver - people who have trouble getting up from the floor have very little muscle tone. Watching that woman was like watching my mom who had no strength to lift her butt like that. The chair itself looks wobbly and would not be accessible to an old person living alone. Weak people are also very fearful and unsteady which adds to the challenge. I like the inflatable mattress idea of one of the commenters. All the person has to do is roll onto it rather than lift with arms.

I have a similar one. I sure wish I could get up as easily as that lady did. The best I can do when in the upper position is to slide sideways into the seat of my wheelchair. However, to get into my Quantum Q6 I have to remove the seat cushion. But I can slide directly into my Fold&Go wheelchair which I keep in my car. I am 72 and have Becker's Muscular Dystrophy which took away my ability to walk when I was 70.
But in spite of this limitation, I am glad to have mine. It has helped me times like when I took a shower without anyone else at home and I got sloppy with positioning my transfer board between the shower bench and the wheelchair. I have to bridge an 8 inch gap. I did not notice my transfer board was sliding and I fell during transfer. I had to crawl a way to get to my lift but it did an excellent job getting me back into my wheelchair again. Even without the seat cushion.

The problem is when an old or disabled person falls it is very unlikely they are carrying a lift chair. I am old and disabled and I have fallen many times. I have had to wait sometimes for hours until somebody found me. I have severe arthritis and I can not use my hands because of it. No doubt the lift chair is a great item and I would like one but I would need somebody to work it for me but unfortunately I don't have anybody.

Best way to get up is to find some stairs. I recently fell and so I scooted my butt out the patio door where we have 5 steps and I was able to lower my legs and get up by myself using the handrail. No struggle, no pain, no stress. Somebody needs to design something where you can scoot your butt up a ramp, then pull a lever and the ramp turns into steps.

    • @revoakes8984
      @revoakes8984 4 місяці тому +1

I had a carpenter make a set of narrow stairs, 3 steps only, with a handrail at the top, and I'd drag it over to my elderly mother in law whenever she fell. She would scoot up backwards, butt first, to the top step, then use the handrail to twist sideways and grab her walker which I had ready for her. I padded the stairs with batting and upholstered them so they didn't look bad. Worked great for the year I took care of her before her death.

I wish they would make one of these chairs only for the bath and one only to help get someone up from the floor. We have one of these and when my husband falls, I have to go and get this heavy unweildy chair with the bath suction cups on the bottom and drag it over to where ever my husband is. I don't think someone living by themselves could do it by themselves unless they fell right next to this chair. I did buy a small cheap dolly from Amazon that I put the chair on so it was easier to retrieve it and take it to what room my husband was in when he fell.

Biggest issue I have with this its all plastic. But mostly the fact it does not side arms for the person to put there hands on as they get off it. If they push down on the side flaps accidently to use them as leverage they will most certainly snap off as they are not meant to bear weight. To pad they did not incorporate fold down arms in the backrest although considering of flimsy the backrest is I would suspect the arms would break off under pressure as well.

One might get maybe a shelf or at least say a 1x10 board at the hardware store, and lay that across the seat, extending it well out to the sides for one's hands to push on. If it's smooth enough it shouldn't make it any more difficult to scoot onto.

We need to talk, we need to crowd source and we need to practice. Go house to house, practice with your loved ones, make it an ice breaker party
      that will teach skills.
Have tools. Emergency whistle on the doorknob. Stays there. Dollar store pool mattress under the couch, slide it out to get you up a few inches, take off seat cushions, much firmer lift that way, hold the wooden frame.
And…do this…..garden gloves. A good grip is essential. Have a few pair always close by.

Obviously its not going to be sufficient all scenarios. If the person is literally immobile and cannot scoot using their hands then that will be an issue.

Have to admit, I felt bad for the woman being the model or 'crash test dummy', even if she wanted to do that. It's a huge risk and when you're healing and rehab-ing, you don't need a new Something if anything goes wrong. My suggestion?? Let the Able Bodied' person demonstrate how it works--by being the first to slowly go and narrating each stage of how to be successful using it. Ask the client especially, but give both client + caretaker a chance to see and use it---because the caretaker has a different set of concerns. At our Rehab, they never let a client 'test 'or 'demonstrate' a device---someone from Rehab staff does it first while clients watch, and before they try it. It's helpful to have the Caretaker use it/do it. In the moment after a fall, at home, things are not usually so calm, spaces may not be so clear. I think the device looks like a good idea, but I'd want to be sure the space at home is clear, the floor and surround safe, no pets getting spooked...

Exactly! My elderly mum has one. See my comment above. This is designed to be a bath lift. It is useless and irresponsible to market it as an aid for the elderly to get them off the floor. And it is VERY heavy.

@@leoralph2810: Haven’t had experience with one but I predict pinched fingers, more falls, and increased joint and muscle pain from struggling to get down or up. Heaven knows what else. Did I mention more falls? I’ve had all the excitement I can stand for a while. Good luck to those intrepid spirits who are willing to try it, tho.

I also fell in my back garden and couldn.t get up.I had to move on my bottom across 100 yards of gravel until I was able to get up with the garage door. Now I go nowhere ,not even in my garden without my mobile phone.
