In an earlier version, he performed this song, and he said something before he started to introduce this song. He said something along the lines of: "This is for when you feel like you are the smallest doll in a bubushka doll." Personally, i loved how succinct and detailed this analogy is to describe the feeling people get when they feel small, insignificant, and like nothing they do really matters anyway. Then this song comes in after, and really brings with it a message to just enjoy what you have whenever you can. This is definitely 1 of my top performances of his, up there with Thank You God, Storm, White Wine in the Sun, and his speech for a graduating university class (i can't remember which university at the moment).
On a personal level, for sure. People have different questions and fears about their own existance and such ensuring songs really help. If you like symphonic metal, one of the greatest songs about the celebration of life is "The Greatest Show On Earth" by Nightwish. It was inspired by the book with the same name by Richard Dawkins. Richard Dawkins actually reads some lines from his book as well as from Darwins on the origin of species. The song is split into several parts, each represents a period of the history of our planet. Richard Dawkins actually joined them at the end of their Wembly concert. However the Tampere version has the better performance musically. It also comes with a synced firework :D Here's the video ID: 45brzDJKZ3o
Deep and beautiful and sensitive Tim! He describes this in another performance as asong like a Babushka doll! He definitely makes complex ideas easily digestible.
I love Tim Minchin. He released an album in 2020 or 2021 and it's freaking amazing. It's called Apart Together. I highly recommend listening to it. Some of my favorite songs from it are...actually all of them lol
It's been a while since you touched on Minchin. He was invited back to give the commencement speech at his arts and sciences college. It's called 9 life lessons. The best version is the one that pops up first With him in the red robes. He's A modern philosopher. Like to see your take
Yay! Tim is a wonderful. You should check out some of his recent stuff too like Airport Piano. It's a song about how acquiring more/ being more successful career wise doesn't necessarily make people happier because once you've achieved that level it becomes the new normal. It's partly why Tim doesn't pursue what's likely to get him the most money or make him more well known. He does what he wants.
If you're still diggin on Tim, he wrote a beautiful song The Aeroplane. Given your reaction to Whie Wine in the Sun, I think you'll like The Aeroplane. Cheers.
Seen him live twice on his current tour in Melbourne and flew to Perth. Everything tim does is gold. Check out his autobiographical track from his latest album Talked too much, stayed too long. Also in october he released a track to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Sydney Opera house, Play it safe
@PianoDiary85 when I flew to Perth to see see the show for the second time I met ladies from the US and the UK that have travelled around the country seeing him dozens of times whenever he goes on tour
Gosh I didn’t think Tim ever performed in Perth! That’s where I live. Oh wait! You mean Perth, Australia 🤦 That gets me every time! Hello from the original, much colder City of Perth
I had never heard this one of his. I am such a big fan of him but I've only heard a small handful of his songs... and his Matilda musical was amazing 💛💛 This was such a sweet reaction to rewatch you loving this so much and getting so emotional over it.
Your comment made me stop and think about how I felt about Tim’s song. The heart is a physical part of our body like so many other parts. Our mind creates our heartfelt feelings and emotions. Just my humble take on what you said and what Tim sang.
This is such a great heartfelt, emotional song. But a lot of people dismiss it because "Tim Minchin is a comedian" and they feel the need to laugh at every line, but it's not that kind of song. Every bar has such deep meaning well beyond the surface, I wish more people would listen more carefully and critically so they can reflect and apply it to their own lives.

I requested this version because its higher than 240p.
It was for the University of Western Australia (UWA) 👍
This was written at atime when John Howard was our Prime Minister.
Love how Tim was so fearless about your PM and Cardinal Pell .
to be fair this in my opinion is probably one of the most important songs ever written.

Brilliant

The most meaningful of all of his songs. It's so correct and we can all relate
Absolutely love this song right now.. Powerful stuff and this man is a musically comedic, genius! 😎☺️💯👌
I have always thought of this song as a hymn for people who don't like hymns.

I have The Aeroplane ft. Asmyra on my list to request about 5-8 down the list.

Have you heard Tim Minchins song The Areoplane? So good!!! It's one of my favourites!!
The orchestral version of this is beautiful. He even did one at the Comedy Prom where the other guests of the show all sang a backup part.

I wish I could have seen his latest show more than once. It was brilliant.

Makes ya think and laugh and sing along!!
Thank you Nick. For all of it. We both know even if others don't what I'm talking about.
Tim is awesome 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Been waiting for more Tim Minchin content. 😂 Long time no see. 👍 Great reaction
There is a another version with improved lyrics
@@moonchildahdifferent, not improved 😂both versions are great 👍
love it, everytime I hear it I cry.

Thank you for that. I recommend all of his current work. Perhaps the theme songs from 1st two seasons of UPRIGHT. Or the love songs from his CD. 💿
I’m so moved by this. I’d never heard it before. I hoped he’d finish with “this is my heart.”

Glad you enjoyed it!
He is 'perfect' .

Not people who actually follow Tim's career and know he hasn't been a comedian for well over a decade.
This is over 20 years old
The cosmic perspective
Hope you're well, Nick. Great song.
Generated captions are garbage though. Throw a lyric site up instead.
Yeah I wish you'd turn off the auto captions for us when you screenshare that since they're always gonna have some that are wrong
Not perfect and white whine in the sun have a weitd ability to make you tear up even tho they arnt sad...
