  • Horses and riders from the Household Cavalry paraded around Hyde Park as part of their annual inspection.
Following a private kit inspection behind closed doors, the personnel and their horses emerged from Hyde Park Barracks alongside two carriages to rehearse for their ceremonial activities.
The Major General's Inspection is the annual test of the regiment's ability to conduct state ceremonial duties - this year will see them take part in the Coronation, the first King's Birthday Parade since 1951, the State Opening of Parliament and other state visits.

That was magnificent. Would never have known that took place if I hadn't watched this. Marking it for next year . Best wishes from Canada.

Such a great horse, the Irish Draught (draft?), for this kind of use .. Big, strong and beautiful.

The signage at the entry needs cleaning. It’s looking very fish and chip.

This is all well and good but with the issues in Europe I would prefer the solders to be training in there main role which is defference with big green Armour cars and doing there job

The Household Cavalry has two functions and if there is a need for the operational regiment to be strengthened the mounted regiment can be deployed as required.

@@RogersRamblings we are closer to war then we have ever been since ww2 and ceremonial duties need to take a back seat in 2023

@@Jeffybonbon Ceremonial duties continued during WW2 using retired soldiers returning to the colours and wearing khaki rather than full ceremonial kit.
The UK is nowhere near going to war on its own account. People far more in touch than you or I with defence matters will keep the situation under review and will not be driven to panic.

@@Jeffybonbon Soldiers on public duties are also combat trained. If you look on their right shoulders some wear parachutists wings. More senior people, NCOs, WOs and more senior officers wear a substantial number of campaign medals, awards for gallantly and other awards.
I would suggest you leave worrying about the the training and deployment of soldiers to those who know and understand what is required.

Did we not learn anything from the falklands In their place was slotted the Welsh and Scots Guards, who had recently been committed to ceremonial duties in London and lacked the equipment and training for a winter war.
Also the brigade’s senior commanding officers had not taken part in appropriate military exercises and, Gardiner argues, lacked the experience necessary for joint warfare and the understanding that each manoeuvre needed to be co-ordinated with other elements.

I’m surprised they still have horses!
I thought they had been sent to Ukraine with everything else.

We are currently issuing Challenger 3 tanks, we are sending Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine that would be sold off at knockdown prices.

@@peterbrown1012 look up when we might be getting the upgraded challenger 2s from Germany. Then tell me that 140 is enough.
We could upgrade all of our Challengers instead of giving them away.
