- Major General Edward Smyth-Osbourne CBE, Major General Commanding The Household Division and General Officer Commanding London District, inspected The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment in Hyde Park on 20th March 2014, to ensure their capability prior to the start of the 2014 ceremonial season.
I've been riding most of my adult life (I'm 55) and I've got to take my hat off to these guys. Riding is tough enough, but riding while playing a musical instrument and maintaining formation? Impressive!!!
And sitting the trot to boot!
Axes and kettle drums? I thought the Life Guards and Horse guards were heavy cavalry; not Dragoons?
Isn't that white horse on the drum coverings got something to do with the house of Hannover ?
It's not a horse, it's a unicorn and is opposite the lion which are symbols of The United Kingdom. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lion_and_the_Unicorn
They are the supporters" the Her Majesty's coat of arms. The lion of England and the unicorn of Scotland.
So grand and elegant. Hope to someday view this fine regiment in person, someday!
I noticed the guy on horseback gave a german style of salute.......
George Frederic Handel ( a very german Englishman ! )
