The demon J’Mon mentioned, Zerxus Ilerez, is a *huge* easter egg for Critical Role fans. If you’re interested in watching CR but are hesitant to vanish down that rabbit hole, maybe give the short series “Calamity” a try - you won’t regret it!
Yes, Calamity is a 3 ep miniseries that focuses on Exandria’s mythical past when human’s had magic so strong that they could rival the gods of Exandria. Until a horrible era of Calamity began and the gods (the good ones, and the not-so-good Betrayer gods) warred for hundreds of years. The miniseries is about how that Calamity began.. Terrific piece of d&d. Keyleth’s, Grog’s, and Scanlan’s VAs are in it, plus guest players, and everyone is absolutely brilliant
@@jscire__872 Four episodes.
Wow it's THE Zerxus! Omg this could be an addition I love
Definitely give Calamity a go if you can. Some reactioners watch it annually and call it the best viewing entertainment. Also, more related info may be coming out through the rest of this season.
@@jscire__872 4 episodes
The kid with the toy gun is Ronin, Travis Willingham (Grog) and Laura Baily's (Vex) son.
And the little girl in that scene was Laura. Nice wholesome family moment.
awwww that's so cute!!! I totally missed that!
The song at the end is actually a nod to the Mighty Nein from their second campaign. The Ruby of the Sea is a very famous courtesan, and Jester (vex's VA) sang a truly awful song about her that kept on being referenced. This version that Matt sings is what The Ruby deserves.
ALSO the little boy that Grog talks to is actually Laura (Vex) and Travis's (Grog) son.
the Ruby of the Sea is the best lay ever!
@@andyenglish4303 Sounds better in Infernal, for sure
Nope, the song is being sung by Matt Mercer, Orthax himself. 🙂 There's a great short here on youtube of him being called on to sing it by surprise at their launch party.
"Grog is smart!"
He has an intelligence of 6, I think he knows what he's doing. 😂
Orthax’s motivation was pretty much revealed in this episode. It’s an easy to miss line from Ripley, but she says if they can mass produce guns, Orthax would have thousands of souls to feast upon. So, like pretty much all demons, it wants souls.
Yup, they're monopolizing the firearms industry, which would give Orthax pretty much all future souls shot down in anger, I reckon.
@@PuffyCloud_aka_puffeclaudeWhich is in part why Orthax and Ripley have no objections to the idea of a perpetual cycle of oppression and revolution enabled by firearms becoming suddenly widespread. In a lot of ways, that’s not a downside to them, it’s exactly the desired outcome.
Ahah the objection overlay was awesome xD
It was....PERFECTION
;)
- Ripley is hot.
- Raishan is hot!
You have great taste in villains :DD
"What happened in the... Oh my god, Dr. Ripley!!!" -Amazing reaction, just perfect :DDD ("Sorry, my issues have guns" (c) - Percy)
J'mon Sa Ord somehow radiates both "an absolute ruler" and "casual person" energy at the same time. Good for them.
And the song at end end is sung by Matt Mercer, who is voicing that character :3
12:34 Love that you caught the nod to Phoenix Wright. 🙂
15:07 - That's Matt Mercer's voice. 😊
loll the arcane music after percy said arcane factory! amazing editing
"Some mysteries are better left unsolved" - prolly someone important :)
Wow, I'm actually early for this one. Rolled high on my Initiative roll I guess.
Also, THE RUBY OF THE SEA?? Love that! Iykyk!
I hear she's the best lay ever
I dont it wasnt in the song :(
@@damiens4601 It was a song made up by Jester tho, so we'll probly hear the real one when M9 releases.
There's a vestige for everyone. Most of them were tailored by Matt for a single person, but a few of them were more ambiguous and could go to any one of them.
Another awesome reaction! Just as a heads up if/when they show up again, J’mon sa Ord is Nonbinary and goes by They/Them pronouns! (Hence why J’mon was Emperex and not Emperor/Empress!)
Matt singing Ruby of the Sea at the launch - ua-cam.com/users/shortsLfR64fc4Kqk?si=ASd4LewaNyvTSgQ8
7:38 If that's supposed to be the Arcane factory Percy was talking about, then I'm not surprised it look similar to Hex Tech.
The editing keeps getting better man, good job editor, very nice!
No you! *blushes*
;) Have an awesome one and thank you.
The little boy with the toy gun was voiced by Laura Bailey (Vex'ahlia) and Travis Willingham's (Grog) son.
As much as I loved this episode, I can’t wait for episode three 😂. You wanna talk about them coming in hot, you’ll see them coming in HOT
They'll enjoy the talk
They're gonna need some Courage for that
Ruby of the Sea was in her prime at this point too. What I wouldn't give...
The decoy armor was probably pretty magical, to fool anyone into thinking it was a vestige, so likely could be used to get a bit of power. I imagine the explosion might've been a lot bigger if it had been an actual vestige.
That's Matt Mercer singing.
I’m quaking for the next episode. Friday could not come sooner!
10:05 Mara Junot is also the Empress Sindel from Mortal Komabat. Another purple for the list 💜
Omg the art in the background is my desktop wallpaper!
I was kinda excited that Orthax is back. It's such an imposing presence and adds chaos to the plot.
Keyleth is a kind of Druid that will live for Centuries. So, the rest of Vox Machina will all die long before she does. Which is the vision Vax saw when they kissed. The kid that Grog talked to was voiced by Travis (Grog) and Laura's (Vex) son. Laura also provided the voice for the little girl. Even though the plate was a fake, it still could have been "charged" up as a regular magical item.
This is a spoiler! No it isn't an exception because it's a known DnD thing! You know that these two aren't DnD players so they won't know that! You gave away a major plot point and for what? It was literally expained in the next episode!
You couldn't wait???
New Meesh and Dee video notification on youtube = I'm summoned to watch. Love your reactions. You have such a great taste for following up on vox machina and arcane as your channel main shows and I'm all the way here for it!
So happy y'all are enjoy this again :3 I always get so excited seeing your upload!
That’s Matt Mercer singing that song. He’s got a really nice voice, but didn’t really ever sing much…probably because of Sam/Scanlan singing all the time in C1
This is just making me want a oneshot of Crit role playing bards
@@devinwhite5064 There’s definitely enough of them who can sing well to pull that off!
@@TanukiSC I STILL want to see more of Marisha's dwarven bard from the Darrington Brigade one-shot.
It's also a nod to campaign 2
@@caffeinedelusions Hazel was truly an icon
Vex's 6th sense was for the tiny (baby?) pet dragon following the Emperex.
In case you didn’t know, the boy Grog questions is voiced by Ronin Willingham, Travis and Laura’s son.
Emperex (non-gendered Emperor/Empress) J'mon Sa Ord is a metallic (brass) dragon. Metallic dragons, unlike chromatic dragons, tend to be lawful and "good."
Notice that after Percy's explosion, the supposed vestige was damaged, which should have been a bit hint that it wasn't a real magical item.
Yes, J'Mon is a non-binary, very old dragon. But Metallic Dragons, tend to be good, with varying degrees of Law, Neutrality, and Chaos relative to each dragon's race: Gold, Silver, Brass, Bronze, and Copper. They do not tend to be lawful, but most are "good".
n DnD, the five basic chromatic dragons are red, blue, green, black, and white. And there are five metallic dragons (copper, brass, silver, gold, and bronze). Chromatic dragons are cruel and self serving. Metallic dragons are generally good by nature.
This season started SO GOOD, can't for you guys' reaction to the next one because it is... interesting... LMAO
So, Orthax gets more powerful for every kill his weapons make. Specifically HIS weapons, the guns. If Ripley, his current host, puts guns in everyone hands then every kill will make him grow. Basically the souls of those killed are consumed by Orthax and give him more power.
This is actually seen in S1. After every revenge kill the Demon becomes more prevalent and obvious around Percy. That's because he is getting stronger with every kill Percy makes. "No Mercy Percy" exists because Orthax was pushing him to be a killer. Revenge was the motivator the demon was using to get Percy to kill. And that's why the Percy we have now is softer, because he's free of Orthax.
1:34 "He misses him" . . . lmao
In DnD there are two main types of dragons. The Chromatic dragons which are evil and the metalic dragons which are good.
The credits are an absolute banger! And an Easter egg to the 2nd campaign The Mighty Nein!
YEEE
8:13 at least let them chat about it…
11:53 Vex is great
12:33 good meme choice by the editor
13:56 first Percy in ep1 now Vex in ep2. your editor is going to spoil us. Going to need Dee as some VM character every episode.
Great reaction as usual.
PERFECTION!
There are 2 types of Dragons, Chromatic, the evil ones: White, Red, Green, Blue, and Black. The Other are Metallic, The Good Ones: Silver, Gold, BRASS, Copper and Bronze
I LOVE how the two of you are so quick to learn how the world works! All the other reactors I watch who've been reacting to VM and didn't watch Campaign 1 of Critical Role were all like "Why's Vex's dragon sense going off around J'mon?" or "Oh. J'mon's got a baby dragon flying around. Mystery solved!" You two are the only ones who got it - J'mon Sa'Ord, in addition to ruling Ank'Harel, is a dragon. Great job on calling it! But that's all I'll say on that. I'd really love for J'mon to have a dragon-moment in Season 3 - it was a really cool moment in the original campaign!
Also, "The Ruby of the Sea" is sung by Matt Mercer AND is a song about an NPC in the Mighty Nein, fun fact. That's all I'll give on the Ruby. Unless the Ruby is relevant to what's happening in Season 3.
The argument that Ripley is making to Percy about why starting the munitions industry is a good thing is an argument that was made early in the real world gun industry; that the gun is the great equalizer. The idea being that swords and bows and other weapons require training that was mostly only available to the rich and the every day weapons that the poor had access to wouldn't make it past the armor (again mostly only available to the rich), but a cheap gun could be picked up and fired by anyone.
Percy's argument about nothing stopping the oppressed from becoming the oppressors is also not a new argument.
Percy's other arguments against guns and his guilt over having created them often echo those that created instruments of destruction in our world. First real world example to come to mind is Oppenheimer's "I am become Death, destroyer of worlds".
Shout out to the “The Ruby of the sea” can’t wait for the mighty nein series.
Can't wait for episode 3, because... If you know you know. x)
Do a see a Jinjer icon?
lol good job editor :>
And bidet to you, fellow critter!
The game is called Dungeons and Dragons, of course there are a lot of Dragons in the story.🤪
Yay! I get to be the one who tells you that the kids Grog talks to are played by Travis's wife Laura (aka Vex'ahlia) and their son Ronin.
If they saw the animated and live action(them cosplaying their chars) intros for Critical Role do you think it would/could spoil things? I think they're pretty free of spoilers... but something to check out because they're all pretty great.
Percy's like "the oppressed need to remain oppressed so the oppressors don't become oppressed," 😂... his Aristocracy is showing. I think he wouldn't have enjoyed the French Revolution. 😂
To be clear, I agree with Percy and how his pepperbox shouldn't be mass produced and would lead to more crime/loss of life.
I don't know if more will be revealed later, but I can confirm your suspicions about Emprex J'mon Sa Ord being a dragon. But a very kind one! Stern, perhaps, but fair, and they genuinely care about their city and people.
J'Mon Sa Ord is non-binary and has the title Emperex.
I dont understand why the armor actually procuded energy ?
I think the decoy armor also has a decoy magical aura similar to the real armor, hence why Ripley found it in the first place.
they Did Not need to make j’mon this hot 😳
Bidet 🎉
Fun Fact
The ruler of Ank'Harel is a non-binary character with a non-binary title of royalty
I stumbled across this channel a few days ago, and I've been really enjoying content...but...and please, don't take this the wrong way, but it's a perfect example of how exhausting being any kind of genderqueer can be so exhausting. The ruler was announced as "their", with a gender neutral royal title, Meesh and Dee's subtitles are on, they/you are by all accounts well meaning, and still missed it. It's like??? What else can possibly be done, you know? And thank you for apologizing, I don't mean to harp on anything, but gee wiz.
Cmon Scanlan... Dropped the ball with his daughter once again 🙁
Vox Machina watched by a couple from Box Machina. :D
Jmon sa ord it's a dragon she has a pet dragon
Like a person having a pet monkey I guess
Do u girls ever watch heartstopper?
9:52 J’mon Sa Ord uses they-them pronouns, fyi. 😉
