Dolly wrote this song on the same night she wrote Jolene, which i see you already reacted to. That was a damned good writing session.
She also wrote that song for Porter Wagoner,
When she left the Porter Wagoner show back in the 70s
Sorry I should read more than one comment lol looks like not just me knows that fun fact
@@ejhlover69 It's all good.
This is Dolly's song, she wrote it. She's written many songs, most excellent.
Dolly has written about 3000 songs for herself and for others. The man was Porter Wagoner and it was the Porter Wagoner show.
She wrote for her singing partner Porter Wagner tell him it's time for her to be a solo artist. She played him the song and he said you can go with my blessings if you let me produce the song
That's Porter in the video. He ended up suing her and getting rights to their catalog. When he fell on Hard times Dolly bought these songs out of bankruptcy and gifted them to him. When he was in a nursing home she visited him there. She came as he was dying and sang this to him as he passed. Then she paid balance of the nursing home bill as she left. She meant what she sang- 100%. That's why it will ALWAYS be Dolly's song
She wrote it for the guy introducing her, who was her boss/manager. This is her "I quit" song.
Dolly was the original one that sung it long before Whitney
You should do coat of many colors by Dolly as well. A true story about her upbringing. Shes an exceptional song writer. And go to Dollywood next time you are in pigeon forge. Her museum is really cool.
my mom's favorite song, i cry every time i hear it
Coat of Many Colors is another great Dolly Parton song based on her childhood.
You can't go into it expecting her to belt like Whitney did. We didn't have big huge talented singers like Whitney back then.. Dolly, just wrote it and sang it and it was instantly a hit.. also remember most of us heard dolly 1st, then got to hear Whitney blow it out the water later.. we love ya!❤
Dolly wrote this song for Porter Wagner when she decided to leave his show and make a name for herself. Watch the movie “Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”! All of the songs she wrote and sang! She’s amazing!!
Well, I have met her twice. Both times, her appearance was flawless. (The second time, she startled the hell out of me...) And she is genuine and extremely nice, unlike many other "stars" that I have met. She is a doll!~
Dolly wrote it! Dolly's version has a sweetness behind it while Whitney's has a power behind it! Both beautiful! It's the Porter Wagner show, he gave her, her first job singing on the show but it was time for her to go off on her own and he was upset at first and didn't want to let her go but she wrote this to him and he realized she was right and let her go! Her career blew up!
This original version has always impressed me, she is just sitting there making her singing look effortless.
Dolly was on the Porter Wagoner Show, and the song was initially written to convince him to allow her to leave his show and go off to other things. This song convinced him. All her songs are based upon things in her life.
I love watching peoples reaction when they find out that Dolly Parton
wrote and sang, 'I will always love you,' in 1974. Whitney Huston was 11 when this song came out. Whitney just did a
cover of the song in the 90's for the movie Body Guard.
I saw an interview with Dolly and they were discussing when she let Whitney sing "I will always love you". She said this " "when I sang my song it done really good, I made lots of money and I went to the bank....but, when Whitney Houston sang my song, and sang it the way only Whitney could, Honey I not only went back to the bank, I bought the dang bank...lol"! Its been years ago, so it's not exactly word for word of course, but she definitely said it real close to this. You should listen to Islands in the stream" it's a duet with the late great Kenny Rogers (RIP). They were best friends for like 50plus years. They sang beautifully together. Everyone always said and thought they were messing around, but Dolly was and still is married and Kenny was married also. But, they were friends so long and new each other so well their voices were just meant to go together.
She didn't let Whitney Houston sing her song she just heard on the radio
@@bigsmoke4987 yes, she heard it on the radio but it was a few months after they spoke and consent was given. I saw an interview years ago about it.
Seven Spanish angels, Willie Nelson and Ray Charles will blow your mind! Also "highwaymen" by country Supergroup The Highwaymen
I love Dolly, and I love YOU. you are a goofball. funny as shit.
In the movie "The Bodyguard", when they are on a date at the bar/pool hall. She gets him up to dance and there is a male cover of the song. She even comments on it being a depressing country song.
Dolly is a VERY prolific songwriter for not only herself but many other artists as well.
But I could hit those high notes (except the ones at the end) about 40 years ago. Not anymore... lol
Keep up the good work, man! Love the channel! ☻☺
In 1966 or 67, Dolly became a regular performer on The Porter Wagner Show. They fought like cats and dogs (Dolly's words). When her contract was up, Dolly was ready to move on. Porter wanted her to stay, even going so far as to tell her she owed it to him. She wrote this song in one night hoping it would explain how she felt and how grateful she was to him. She sat him down and sang it for him. But he was just too angry. She left the show and went out on her own. Porter actually sued her for the rights to the songs she wrote while under contract with him. And he won the suit. Her songs were legally his. Years later, Porter was sick and broke and mostly forgotten, except in Nashville. He was selling all those songs that he had won. Dolly Parton bought all her songs back from him. Dolly has a beautiful heart full of compassion and forgiveness. She felt no sense of justice or revenge. After buying the songs from him, she gifted them back to him. Even though I loved this song first by Dolly Parton, I also really liked Whitney's version. Whitney Huston's mother, Cissy Huston was one of Elvis Presley's backup singers called "The Sweet Sensations". Cissy Huston later had a stellar career as a gospel singer.
Never had the chance to meet her but she seems like such a sweet sincere lady and so so talented
Yes Dolly did write this song. She wrote it to Porter Wagoner he had a country show and she was on that show. She wrote it telling him goodbye that she was going solo and Whitney Houston bought the rights to the song
@Beth Hankins Whitney Houston did not buy the rights to this song. Dolly still owns the song and all the rights in fact Dolly gets the money from the song because it's her song. Whitney Houston just got to some very small portion of money from the song. Dolly owns the rights to all of her songs that she has written. She doesn't let anybody buy the rights from the song because she wrote them herself. Elvis Presley wanted to do a cover of this song but his manager wanted to own 50% of the rights to the song and all Dolly said no that she was not willing to sell any part of the rights to any of her songs.
Coat of many colors
If you can, do coat of many colors. It's my favorite Dolly song, she's an amazing story teller.
There's also a beautiful duet version with Dolly Parton and Vince Gill.
Coat or many colors is my personal favorite and dolly was the original singer and writer of the song Whitney just did a cover
Dolly wrote this for Porter Wagoner after she went solo. Porter referred to Dolly as a snake bc he was upset she left
Dolly Parton wrote the song and she was thrilled and loved Whitney's version.
A GREAT one is her duet with Kenny Rogers, Islands in the Stream. Get the live one.
Dolly wrote this song in 1966 for Porter from the Porter show when she was leaving after 5 years on the show to express her love and feelings about leaving and to Porter
Coat of Many Coors - Dolly wrote about something from her own childhood
Dolly sang it how it should be, the soft touch on every word she sings, the pure emotion in her voice. Whitney hit a good note, dolly hit a great classic song
Dolly wrote almost all her own music. Including this one.
I'm glad you used this early performance. Later she didn't sound this sublime.
Dolly is SO beautiful 🌹❤️🌹
I love Dolly Parton and Reba and Loretta Lynn and Barbara mandrell.
Dolly’s Eagle when she flies and also Hard candy Christmas are both good.
I love Dolly and I also love Whitney’s version. Both have amazing voices!
That guy at the end was who she wrote the song to: Porter Wagoner, and you need that blue suit, she was breaking off being his "lady singer" on the Porter Wagoner TV show that she had been doing for 7 years, because she had decided to go solo, and Wagoner really wanted her to stay. so that little chat at the end , the video ends with her saying "I did mean it"
Porter Wagner discovered Dolly. This was written to him because she was leaving the show.
Yes Dolly wrote the song
Dolly and Whitney both did excellent versions of the song, a rare case where the cover and original are equal in my opinion.
This is Dolly's song - Dolly wrote it - Dolly sang it - Whitney covered it - and with ALL due respect and love to Whitney Houston NOBODY sings THIS song like DOLLY PARTON ! ! !
She is also a wonderful human being. She's done so much for the State of Tenn and Gatlingburg and Pigeon Forge and the library and the schools....She is an ICON
Dolly wrote this song for Porter Wagoner ❤
Dolly is the real deal man!
Here you come again is a good one
Dolly wrote and recorded that song in 1973. It was rereleased in 1982 as part of the soundtrack to The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Whitney didn't record her version until 1992 for the movie Bodyguard.
EDIT: Oh, and it hit #1 on the charts both times for Dolly ('73/'74 AND '82). A rare feat, another person to have the same song top the charts twice was Chubby Checkers and The Twist.
she wrote it for Porter Waggoner, the guy who's show this was. they were married, way back when.
Dolly wrote that song, recorded it and made a lot of money and as she said ... she made a lot of money to take to the bank, and when Whitney recorded it, Dolly could buy the bank. It's her song and the original. She re-recorded it with Vince Gill after Whitney and again, it hit #1 .. three times for one song. Not bad for one night of writing. (She wrote Jolene the same night too).
Do islands in the stream it a duet Dolly and Kenny Rogers
The Bee Gees wrote the song for them and then also released their own version.
She took it to #1 2 different decades
You should hear Dolly sing with Pentatonix a capella group. This is new months ago.
"Jolene, Jolene, Jolee-ha-heen" 😭😂😭 I love Dolly! I was just a little thing when this came out.
Dolly and Kenny Rodger island in the stream
This was Dolly on the Porter Waggoner show.
While Whitney gives me chills, Dolly’s original version brings tears to my eyes 🥰
I'm always surprised no one mentions Porter Waggoner's suit.
Dolly Wrote and allowed Whitney to RECORD it for the Body Guard movie
Absolutely love dolly this was so beautiful thanku so much always a brilliant reaction thanku love an god bless x
Purple Rain Dolly Parton
Whitney was only 10 yrs old when Dolly wrote & recorded this song....
Hi from CA! Love your reactions, the Best! Please react to Sugarland, "Stay"
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Hey man you should do Garth Brooks The dance, it’s a very good song
Elvis Presley wanted to sing this song on his album, but he wanted to buy the rights, and Dolly said no she doesn't sell the rights to her song.
Dolly wrote this song to prove to Porter she was ready to leave the show and make it on her own.
She wrote this for Porter Wagner...She still jokes about Porter...She likes to make sure he's not in the audience when she's performing to try to make her come bak to work for him LOL in joking of course
There is only one difference between the two amazing singers, Whitney sang with power and Dolly sang with emotion.
Dolly Parton I Will always Love you (live) this one is way better explains more about the songs
She wrote it for the guy at the beginning of this video--Porter Wagner. She was ready to leave the show, and he was not happy about it, so she wrote the song, and she said as she sang it, he was on the side off camera with tears streaming down his face. After the song was over, he was like, it's okay if you leave if I can help have rights or production rights to the song or something like that. Of course she didn't give it, but it helped ease her departure. She skyrocketed after that in her career. She is an amazing songwriter, and have you watched her and Kenny Rogers' live duets? They were great onstage together--"Islands in the Stream" and "We've Got Tonight." So good.
You need to do whiskey lullaby by Brad paisley plz
Please react to “Dolly Parton Stair Way to Heaven”. A simple search on UA-cam and it will pop up. I would select the live version. ❤️✌🏼
This song was her resignation from the Porter Wagoner show.
You had to know this was way before Whitney. She write this for Porter.
Yes Dolly wrote this song....1973....
Dolly only sings her songs or ones that she cowrites she writes the words and the music. She does collaborate. She owns the copyright to this song, Whitney tried to buy it but she wouldn't sell
Just joined the holla squad cause I love the vibes
Let’s gooo Holla 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
She is one of the best song writers ever ❤
DOLLY WROTE THIS SONG.
DOLLY WROTE THIS FOR ELVIS. HE WANTED TO SING IT, BUT COLONEL PARKER WOULDN'T LET HIM BECAUSE OF MONEY. SHE DID AN INTERVIEW AND SAID THAT SHE CRIED FOR A WEEK , SHE SAID THAT SHE COULDKUST HEAR ELVIS SING IT. INTIL HE DIED, SHE REGRETTED THE FACT THAT HE NEVER SANG HER SONG!
@@sheliaspringer7389 She wrote it for Porter . not Elvis
She played Mona, a madame, in the Best Little Whorehouse In Texas with, Burt Reynolds as the sheriff Ed Earl, he falls in love with her. But it's also a comedy too. She DID NOT write it for that guy on the video. She wrote that song for her character to sing in the Best Little Whorehouse In Texas soundtrack 🙄 such a funny movie! You should watch it.
Wrong.
I'd like to request Fire Away by Chris Stapleton and Unanswered Prayers by Garth Brooks. Two unbelievable songs. Thanks! 💜
This was No. 1 TWICE in the US and with Whitney's version, so three times. She wrote over 3000 songs!
React to As she’s walking away by Zac brown band
You should listen to Shania twain
please react to Dolly's " Dumb Blonde " great reaction, thank you!
A little known fact.. Elvis asked Dolly if he could cover this song and she turned him down. But said yes to Whitney.
Dolly's version always felt more personal. Whitney's felt more of power production to me. Dolly practically talks to you in that one verse. Whitney's had all the words but emphasis on different words. It makes the songs feel different even though it is the same lyrics.
If I recall correctly Dolly had 2 # 1's with this song before she ever let Whitney sing it.
has Whinney Houston ever done something that wasn't a cover?!
You need to listen to Me and Little Andy by Dolly
Here’s the most heartfelt version Dolly ever sang, especially at the end: ua-cam.com/video/CJVn0hpBVuE/v-deo.html
If you haven't heard coat of many colors you should. Idk yet cause I'm watching all you videos today. Least I'm trying to 😂
Dolly wrote this song.
Love country Holla ❤
