As someone who lives in Switzerland, I find it very amusing that this game - which is attempting to give a feel of isolation - is set here. Judging by the wide landscape and small mountains, you would expect this location to be in the region north of the alps, where you cannot walk for more than half an hour in one direction without stepping into a village. Especially in a place with such a big river. And even if you were on top of one of the alps, you wouldn't be more than an hours walk away from the nearest restaurant and would probably see a few hikers every day - tons on weekends.
The spookiest part, is that this is just the tip of the iceberg. Signals, events, species, a few entries, and a lot more haven't been mentioned. Also, this game has a ton of stuff to buy with your signal money, like decorations, a drone, tools, and a *_KERFUS_* Also, please, don't touch neither the lamp, the heater, and don't get close to neither the yellow light, or the flashlight bearing entity. Meeting them won't be good.
i feel a sense of pride and accomplishment watching documentaries about stuff i've contributed on i composed the (now removed) ambience tracks that used to play depending on the game's time.
Although I never got to experience them as I only started a few weeks ago, thank you for your contribution This game is so good, I kinda wish I could have experiences your tracks :c
when I saw a screenshot of this game I immediately thought it was on source but after I knew it wasn't I was really amazed by how the dev managed to replicate the feeling . source engines feeling is heavlily grounded in the sound and ambience department the same or maybe worse as this game
Clearly the entity at Stonehenge is the Black Argemia Plushie, she rewards you with herself provided you complete her ritual properly Apart from that, if you use a hook to prevent yourself from being black hole’d, you will be able to survive the ritual and are rewarded with a black stone comprised of any items that were pulled into the portal Performing the Black Argemia ritual properly prematurely closes the portal, spawning the plushie, which will begin spinning to track your position as soon as she lands. As long as she has line of sight, she will spin to face you, and she is the only plushie / figure to actively do this
Heres my little theory on the story of the game. Your employer obviously knows something sinister is going on there, since they just let that man die and obviously nobody came over to clean up the mess. Picture this; You are a young scientist, and is currently trying to get your foot in the door for in the scientific world, you see an ad or maybe you hear of a position opening up at your current job, you decide to take it thinking this is your big break. You spend a few weeks being tested to see if you are suited of the job and that you understand the importance of it being top secret, you are given minimal information as with who will you be working with, you find it strange. You are taken there with a van so you cant see outside, and left there alone with no ability of outside communication, you shrug it off and get your briefcase. Very soon you realize you are not allowed to leave. The company you work for probably also completely wiped your file of their system, you were never there.
@@nullhydrangea Just to save the theory: They want you to think everything’s alright and that it’s all going well, plus maybe they probably actually want the info even if they know it might cost a few lives
9:14 - I think it is safe to assume that they are 100% different people, since the notebook is written by (Presumably) one person, while the notes are written with "We" as in, multiple people, like a research team or something. I personally think that the notebook is a previous worker like the player, while the papers are from a while back from before the satellite dishes were built for a secret government project, presumably around the same time the fences were built around stonehenge, among other structures.
I love this game so much, probably my top horror game in the last few years I hope this game makes it to 1.0 and steam release with a price tag because i cant think of a game more deserving of it
i didnt forget, i just didnt want to consider hallucinations a valid mystery since its difficult to speculate about. I might've been able to discuss why he imagines it but idk there isn't much to work with atm
I really hope the visuals of the game won't be changed that much- the chunky "source" look gives it charm. I understand the dailing down of other source shennaningans- the heavily inconsistent physics is definetly something that can happily go away. TLDR: hope the devs won't break the vibe of the game with the "we want to desourcify" work you mentioned
Adding to the being alone feeling imagine you know your supposed to be alone and while looking for signals you Glace at the radar expecting nothing qnd seeing a new ping
9:25 I'm fairly confident this is a different journal. The writing style is completely different. So, odds are, it is someone else. It also says We, not I. So, it was from a team sent to explore something, likely the cave based on the rope and mention of if it is infinite.
It can be both, meta-textually it can be a reference and in-game it’s real events that give lore, still most of that isn’t that Vinny related except for the cactus, it 100% is intentional considering the dev’s affinity for Vargkelethor (friend and co-worker of Vinny)
I think the horror part of votv is far oversold, I'd say it is more of a simulator first with horror/ horror-comedy elements. Not that it isn't scary, mind you.
I find it crazy that Kel doesn’t have an option to like, call the police about the skeletal remains. I know it would probably ruin the game, but realistically I wouldn’t just ignore something like that! (Actually I’m surprised most game protagonists don’t. I swear this isn’t the only time this has happened but I can’t think of what.)
This is a radio dead zone. It's specifically blockaded a distance away from civilization so that the radio telescopes aren't interfered with. Only land lines and cabled connections work here. It would probably have a landline connection for a phone IRL. But options are limited by the nature of the job.
i did not say it ran on source, i said it was made to look and feel similar to something made using source. It does run on unreal, just looks very convincingly source like
Very cool game, but... Who is Joey VSauce? I don't think there's anyone on the VSauce team called Joey, Joe, Joseph, any of that... Is it a meme? I feel like I've seen that Skull, mushroom... THING, around, but... I don't know.
im not sure if this is ironic or not but if you're being serious, there is a streamer from vinesauce who goes by the name "Vargskelethor." his real name is also Joel but people call him different names, the most popular being Joey. So, Joey V(ine)Sauce

The firewatch towers you can see in the distance aren't really a thing in Switzerland, as far as I know. They're more of a North America thing.

Iirc they have to if they wish to sell it. Valve doesn't allow their sounds to be used for commercial products outside of source
