Eos R. Gen 1 Canon mirrorless. I sold mine and went back to my EF system with the eos 5dsr. Have now gone back to Eos R with the R8 and the 24-105 f4L and the 100-500 RF L.
Totally agreed, super versatile lens and perfect for 95% of our work other than stuff that requires lowest light or smallest DOF. Great for events, headshots, portraits, products. I mean I shoot a lot of events that are low light and get fine photos out of it at high ISO's, otherwise pop on a flash and good to go in any situation. I was shooting the after party of a school graduation outside 11pm, pitch black out, pop on an EL-1 flash and photos all were awesome (EL-1 is a real game changer, best on-cam flash EVER on any system).
Thank you for excellent review👍.I have rf 24-105 f4L my go to lens for travel/family vacation pair with rf 35 f1.8 and i have rf 28-70 f2L for portrait and wedding works😊
There was a time when f4 was considered too slow for a lot of professional use. That was back when the original 5D, for example, was best not used beyond 1600 ISO. Today's cameras offer several stops more of clean image quality, making f4 lens absolutely practical. Need a more shallow DOF? A cheap prime will cover those situations, and do it better than the expensive 2.8 zoom.
It's such an excellent travel lens. Whenever I'm going somewhere and I don't quite know what I'll find there, this lens nearly always has the right focal length for the job.
I have to agree! If you are just starting off photography, this lens gives you great opportunity to grow as photographer. It stays on my camera 90% of the time.
Great video. I also find that it's the lens that I use the most. When I bring it and the RF 50mm 1.2 I have everything I need for environmental portraits and most landscape photography.
That was really helpful, thank you. I also own an EOS R, with a couple of prime lenses for the 14mm and 50mm focal lengths respectively. To be honest, because in addition I use Fuji and Olympus equipment, not to mention my trusty 5D and 5D3, the EOS R has not really found its true role thus far. But I have kept an eye on the retail prices of this particular universal zoom and I agree it would be ideal as a walkaround option. Especially as it packs away so conveniently in a smallish bag, as you demonstrated. Today is my birthday and I may finally decide to splurge on what would be a reliable, long-term purchase that would definitely be put to good use.
I used to have Canon R and RF24-105 f4 L combo. Now I have it on R6. Great all around lens providing grate images and very important for me it's not heavy as others which makes this lens very versatile. And f4 is nothing to worry about with R6 body which have IBIS and one can bump up ISO to 10K and still producing great images.
@Len F thanks for your answer! I've got the R6 on order, found a nice used one. Looking to buy the 24-105 f4 used as well, but people don't seem to let them go 😄 very few offers on the 2nd hand market

Yes! This lens is a great lens, that I would recommend for travel too. I personally went with the RF 24-70 2.8 though, since I shoot a lot of events and also video, where I want to be able to get a decent amount of bokeh.
If you have a chance to try it somewhere it would be very helpful. However you would loose some depth of field with f4. Anyway I think the af will be much faster with native RF mount. Hi Lukas, nice review I just want to buy Canon Eos RP + RF 24-105 f4-7.1 STM with RF 50mm and EF 85mm 1.8 OR other option is to buy only RF 24-105 F4. I mostly shoot weddings as a candid photographer. Thanks.
How is the dust sealing on this particular RF lens? I've heard photographers having a nightmare with Tamron and Sigma's current 24-70 due to dust getting sucked in to the lens due to poor sealing on the extending lens barrel. To your knowledge, does the RF F4 24-105mm L have a filter between the extending barrel and the main barrel to prevent dust from getting sucked into the lens? Or in your extensive use of the lens, have you detected any issues with dust [long term use]?
I had to actually send my lens to canon to have them clean a dust speck that got under the front element. They cleaned it for free, I got it back in about a week and has been clean since. That was several months ago and I use it a lot.
I use my RF 24-105mm F4 daily for more than a year and there's no dust inside the lens. I change lenses very often, so I suppose the sealing does its job correctly.

I. Love. This. Lens. I shoot weddings, both photo and video. On my R6, I go handheld and can hybrid shoot between photo and video and get amazing stuff on both ends. Of course there are better lenses, but for the price, this lens is stacked with features and so incredibly versatile.
