I still have my Death Star World. When I opened it in 1982 and started putting on the stickers, I remember the elevator stickers started peeling from the toy immediately. As I'm watching the video, I noticed this set's elevator stickers started peeling too. My childhood anger was triggered. haha Even though the figures were basically statues, these toys were my favorite Star Wars toys.
Nice. These are ones I never got into because of how old I was at the time not collecting. But always thought it was a cool idea. I have a vid up of unproduced SW Micros "Star Wars Kenner Unproduced Micro Playsets & Miniature Figures Collection"
Wow, like reliving the past. That catalog I kept flipping through it going, I want that, and that, and that too. Found my playsets in storage just now and I'm checking for, to see what might be missing. My parents couldn't find the Hoth stuff, except the cave, which I got. Didn't play to much with it. So far all here, maybe new stickers and a missing lightsaber on a Bespin Luke and a Vader. Man I remember playing with these while eating lunch all the time. Thanks for cracking this open on camera.
As a kid I had the Bespin set. The micro toys weren't my cup of tee as a kid but I loved how many options Kenner gave kids like us when it came to the Starwars line.
You didn't mention that one of the worst things about the figures was the fact that the paint they used would flake and come off easily. All a kid had to do was point at a playset and say 'I want that' and the paint would start dropping off the figures. They are almost impossible to find loose with decent paints, because as soon as they were opened they started losing paint.
I always found it a challenge to have my own self made Star Wars figures in "neutral" poses, so that I could use them for different dioramas, as figures who are fighting or just standing around.
I hate to disagree, but having had both size versions, the micro was by far the best death star for durability and scale. Those original 3 3/4" figures were sort of articulated, mostly it meant that you could cram them into a seated position in a badly proportioned vehicle. The head articulation you never touched because the head would bust off about ten percent of the time.
Star Wars 'Micro Machines' were being made by Galoob in the 1990s. This one up here, however, was produced by Kenner in the early 1980s and the toyline was named 'Micro Collection'. Nowadays, the toymaker company Jazwares has a similar line called 'Micro Galaxy Squadron'.
My uncle had these figures not the playset tho. Idk when he got it, but I played a bunch of times with the figures and had fun anyway. I still have them too, but yea the paint got a little scuffed 😅
Now you barely find any Star Wars or any action figures in general at the local Walmart. I've that most Walmarts have been cutting back their stock due to low sales.
@@kevinnelson66 The main problem is the *price increases.* The price goes up, the demand goes down (basic economics). I remember a couple years ago when Wal-Mart introduced modern versions of the *_Masters of the Universe_* figures based on the classic designs from the 1980's...and they were listed at *_$14.99 each._* That crossed the line for a lot of parents out there, especially if the toys are just going to end up in a pile of random loose/broken figures in a plastic tote at a flea market 5 years from now. They eventually made it to the clearance aisle priced at $8.99 and _that's_ when they finally sold. LEGO also caught on with their police & fire fighter sets. The police station used to go for $99.95 and sales were less than stellar, so they decided it would be best to make the sets *smaller* (and sell them at a lower price point) to attract more buyers. Now the (current) police / fire station is listed at $70.00. It was a good decision.
9:52 You know, I can use that tactic on for the new "Star wars Battlefront II 2017" if I boarded a star destroyer to take out some imperials using the turrets.
this one only has the tractor beam and the turret, the elevator exists. but the landing for it looks different. the other half has the detention block, the compactor and the hallway outside of it where Leia calls chewie a carpet
The ground floor and first floor should also have some integrated play features, like the top floor does. At least some sliding door or whatnot; something simple...... 😕 I personally find it pretty underwhelming as a 'supposed' action playset.
Don't open it..Nooooooo!! Oh well. I opened a lot of vintage stuff in the early 90s. Weren't worth as much then. Those stickers are indeed small. And the lukes came with a BLUE ligthsaber.
I had most of these. They were excellent toys to play with.
Great review, and just as great to see these toys getting played with! Rip those bad boys open!
I had this and this was a trip down memory lane! Thanks

Loved these sets so much. I’ve still got the falcon and an xwing they were the coolest versions and got played with so much!
Thanks for posting these. I remember my best friend as a kid had a set or two. They were pretty cool. Wish they'd made more.
I had a bunch of these as a kid and all the playsets. They're still up in my mom's attic along with all my GiJoe and HeMan stuff.
I always found it a challenge to have my own self made Star Wars figures in "neutral" poses, so that I could use them for different dioramas, as figures who are fighting or just standing around.
I had the whole Hoth set when I was kid. Wish I had it now back then I wanted the bigger 3 and 3/4 inch figures.
Thats one sick tusken raider mask
I love these micro figs. I have the figs but not the environments. No more space :)
I used to have EVERY single set of this
wish I still had them
I wonder how many collectors had heart attacks watching you break open a rare MISB set? :-D
The box on this was falling apart anyway, so hopefully no one was too upset.
When the boxes become badly deteriorated, it's time to open them up.

The micro machines by Kenner would be good for stop motion

even better this was half the set, there are two parts, the other of which features more iconic scenes

Now that's a classic. I wonder the new Starwars movie
for 2016 will be look like for their new toy line.
But after all is Disney choice
Love the review! But what you said at 0:56 - 0:58? "You can't go into a *toy store* today, that carries *toys*". Isn't that a given?

I'm building a Fallout shelter?
Apocalypse? Hell no! Gotta keep my vintage Star Wars stuff pristine!

I want this specific playset as lego, they did it with the cardboard deathstar? maybe the next death star will be modular
this one only has the tractor beam and the turret, the elevator exists. but the landing for it looks different. the other half has the detention block, the compactor and the hallway outside of it where Leia calls chewie a carpet
They shoulkd do scaled up versions of this and echo base for the 3 inch line and Black series.
There was kenner's Death Star space station playset from 1978.
Find someone with a good 3D printer scan and jump scale to standard or vintage figures

Have you seen empire strikes back do the at at
why does no one own both sets, or the compactor half?

You can see where the Silverfish were nibbling on the Death Star playset box, yuck!
