I saw the show at The Coliseum. Bits and Pieces blew the crowd away. Billy Andrews was great.

1969, at the Ilikai club in van der Walt Street, Pretoria, saw these guys on a Saturday afternoon. They were smokin!!.

Rather disappointing that Steve Lonsdale is not given a mention or credit for his performance in "Cry to me" or his time with the band.
Steve Lonsdale did the lead vocals on the original "Cry to me". Fantastic voice.

Where is he today?
A primary school friend of mine who i coaxed into playing the guitar, his mom actually bought our instruments at a bicycle shop in jules street in Malvern where we grew up actually played bass for a stint in this group. He was on bass on Cinnamon Girl. His name, Andre' van Zyl. I believe he passed away in 2012. He was 7 days older than me. Born in 48. Would have been 76 on the 15th April 2024. Fond memories if our early days trying to learn by ear at every Shadows single that was released. We had a few appearences on stage with the Gladiators. We were 15 at the time. I was on lead and he played rythm.

Worked with Steve Lonsdale at Felstar Publishers way back and helped write the lyrics for a song the staccatos were doing for a film, The Second Sin (if a fading memory serves). The film was pretty poor and the song not much better, but the Staccatos pulled their magic and turned the song around.

my year 12 /matric dance band , at Blairgowrie High School, in the 80's
The Staccattos played at my Parktown Boys High Matric dance in 1968 and if I remember correctly played "Cry to me."
Hi Dean, I had a friend who was a friend of the band and I booked them for our matric dance. They were by far the best rock band in South Africa at the time. It was a fabulous occasion!

never heard "Cry to Me"...but "Half Past Midnight" is as great a song as any....those harmonies "stack up" against ANY of the vocal bands of that time (or any other....)....

i REALLY don't think this is 100% correct. More a promotion for Ashley again unfortunately. They are too old now for this crap.
