    Thx Soham, with each tutorial I learn or sometimes relearn techniques that make me a stronger more proficient artisan. Thanks to you I am beginning to apply and integrate the knowledge you have shared across the years allowing me to create ever more complex and intricate pieces. Thank you !

    I paid for a college education specializing in metalsmithing and you're filling in huge holes left by the mediocre staff. You're amazing

    Please consider making a tutorial about fire patinas. I have been trying to make bright red color with copper but.... I have not been able to achieve it so far.

      soham harrison Have you ever tired where you cut the wire then lay it on a block that is leaning and have a water bath at the bottom so when the liquid silver runs down the block forming a ball, it hits the water. I've done it that way and it was really easy.

    Soham - I have learned SO many techniques from you, along with new tools that you use. Thank you so much!!! I have been trying to connect two pieces of silver together by melting silver wire into a ball on one end, threading the two pieces of silver onto the wire and then cutting the wire and trying to melt another ball on the other end so that the two pieces of silver move separately, but are held together between the two silver balls...... does that make sense? If you could share any info you might have on this, I would appreciate it greatly.

    Hola Soham! que debería usar para soldar granos de plata .999 sobre una lámina? alguna sal de cobre con goma arábiga? o tal vez funcione empleando hierro en ácido para cubrir de cobre a la plata? Gracias, me gustan todos tus vídeos.

    • @1soham1
      @1soham1  7 років тому +1

      either process will work. it is probably easier to put the granules in saturated pickle (IT WILL BE BLUE) then place a bit of steel in, then it will copper plate the granules. you will still need to glue the granules in place.goma arábiga

    Great idea to use the solder cutter to measure out equal amts. of silver! I keep losing granules in the pickle, and wondered if these could be made with fine silver so I could skip the pickle step. Could fine silver granulations be used the same way as sterling?

    hi sohom ,

    i hope that this is clearish and many thanks , you are a true artizan !!!

    • @1soham1
      @1soham1  9 років тому

      Col Ferderer sure, it is just melting small pieces into a ball

      soham harrison Wow! Thanks so much for sharing! I have one question. Sometimes i succeed but its always a hit or miss. When i try to torch my granules to a ring band the band starts to melt and deform. I'm holding the ring with my 3rd hand tweezers and the balls placed on the brick so i push the ring down to touch the granules.I apply flux and solder but sometimes it just wont adhere. What am i doing wrong?

    • @1soham1
      @1soham1  9 років тому +2

      Rachel Jo you are getting too much heat on the ring. you might be better off carving a groove in your soldering block for the ring and placing the granules against the ring. that way all the bits should be the right temperature

    For the granules are you using fine or sterling silver?

  • @sarahfrancyjewellery
    @sarahfrancyjewellery 9 років тому

    What is the biggest granule that you have created? I have made 5mm balls but they all have flattened bottoms when melted. I want to make a rosary ring and I can't solder the flattened balls accurately on a round band too. Any suggestions?

    • @1soham1
      @1soham1  9 років тому +1

      sarahfrancy you can make larger round balls by making a rounded depression in your soldering block with a burr, then melt the metal in the depression. usually you need to make a small flat spot on each rounded bit for the solder to join properly

    • @ntuidme
      @ntuidme 7 років тому

      For the mot part, you will be hiding the flat spot on the piece to be soldered to, so I would not worry about it. But for that perfect roundness, Soham Harrison has a logical solution which I have used many times!

    What kind (name? brand?) of snippers were those that you used to cut the wire, and the piece drops out the bottom? I have never seen those before!

    • @sohamharrison
      @sohamharrison 10 років тому +1

      they are just solder snippers used for sheet solder large ones available from rio grande, and small ones from otto frei
