Hi Great review I purchased this saw last week after watching your and other reviews here on youtube. Works great for me straight out the box. Plus Saxon are now producing blades with the 25.4 mm diameter which is a bonus (available on Amazon)
This video was excellent, really excellent! Very matter of fact whilst remaining interesting. You have a very relaxed style, very natural. Subscribed! I came specifically as want this saw, I don’t trust the manufacturer reviews for honestly outlining the pros and cons as you did. Great job!
Mine had several problems contacted evolution and within a few days is was collected and a brand new machine delivered 4 days later now its pretty much spot on apart from the dust that collects under the saw 👍
Yes the customer service is very good. With regards the dust I think it's just one of those things that we have to live with. But it's not as bad as in some other budget saws I had
Yes, the dust does come out all over the floor - even with a shop vac attached - not as bad as my old saw, but still not great. I think this is just common to all budget contractor's table saws. My solution is a cardboard box that fits snugly into the stand under the saw. It's not beautiful, but it does catch 90% of the fine dust that I would otherwise be slipping on. I plan to make something a bit more elegant, perhaps with wings to capture more of the dust that escapes between the box and the base of the saw!
@@simonrosser7590 Hi, I've seen a German UA-camr who has several tutorials on this table saw, and if I remember correctly, that's exactly what he suggests. I'm leaving mine for now, as I'd rather get more familiar with the workings of the saw before making too many alterations. Enjoy the toy!
Thanks from Germany. My Evolution Rage 5S it is great and very flexibelety. Evolution is not so well known in Germany. I use a Freud 40 tooth blade. the saw blade from freud is very good. With the lower speed of the Rage 5S it goes through more slowly. but this is not a problem in itself. I recommend the adapter rings from Bosch. as shown in the video. Please note the leaf stem thickness. There are different strengths of these rings. from bosch the adappter rings fit perfectly. I had others from the bay (oh sorry ... I mean germany with the bay actually ebay. with the rings from ebay, the saw blades run out of round. I have installed a soft start module in my Evolution Rage 5S. There is a video of a German Yuotuber showing the installation in the Rage 5S. The channel is HeimWerke. The man's name is Arron. Arron has shown further improvements in Rage 5S videos. the parts for the improvements can be bought in his shop. The casters for the table extension, for example. so the extended table no longer hangs down. he adjusted the rolls of the table extension to the right very precisely and made them himself.Sorry for my bad English. I used the google translator for this. i hoppe we can find Evolution much more in old Germany. I have from Evolution the miter saw Rage3 and metall miter saw EVO 355. evolution is great and a good price. The Bosch GTS 10 xc table saw is very popular in Germany. The Bosch Saw is just too expensive for me. I have the BS350 band saw from Record Power. a disc grinder DS300 from Record Power. Wet grinder for sharpening the hand tools also from Record Power. these two English brands are very good and I am very pleased with them. t is a long comment. Thank you very much and best wishes from germany. we need more englisch tools.
Yes the reducing ring I got it's from Bosch. I find that the Evolution tools give a fair value for money. With regards the upgrades to the saw, the first thing on my list is the zero clearance plate. After that I will see. Thank you mentioning that youtuber I need to check him out. Thank you for watching 😁👍
Another candid and informative video.. thank you. I own the Evolution sliding miter saw and am quite happy with it as I am not using it for "fine" work. I especially like the slow-start feature. Next it was time to buy a table saw (here in the US the Evolution is about $380) and decided on a Grizzly ($400). Dewalt saws range from $300 to $600 here but I have no experience with them. The 2 major strikes against the Evolution are ones that you mentioned: slow blade speed and the 1-inch arbor. Buyers should think long and hard about the limits this places on the saw's ability to do precision work by limiting blade selection.
Yes the blades for Evolution saws will ultimately could be the thing that will drag them down. I heard good opinions about the Grizzly brand. And I think I would buy a table saw from them if they were available here in UK for a reasonable price
Good, fair review Tomasz. I had problems initially getting the blade perpendicular to the table because there wasn’t enough adjustment. When I raised this with Evolution they sent me two ‘internal documents’ that solved the problem by describing other adjustments not covered in the manual. One other irritation is the non-standard sizes of the mitre slots preventing the use of third party mitre gauges. But, now I have copied your sled that is no longer a priority. Thanks, Paul. 👍
@@Xziriz Hello Mark, I can send them (or you can ask Evolution). A couple of PDF documents that solved one problem I had and one I didn't know I had. Cheers.
@@mrnobelnigel Sounds great, thanks for the reply! Could you perhaps upload them to www.sendspace.com/ and drop the link here? This way others can download it as well :-).
I've had mine almost a year now and it's fine. Dust under the saw I am going to build a collection box with an additional extraction outlet. Also, I have a Dewalt blade on mine with a reducer and it is fine. The mitre is bad so I have built a mitre sled for mine and it produces great results super quick.
I too had to return my Evolution mitre saw twice before I got one which was correctly machined but as you said Evolution customer service was just very helpful every time and sorted out the issues very quickly.
I like your vids, (a) well reasoned reviews based on long term use; (b) you use tools that I can sometimes afford; and, most of all (c) your workshop is about as small as mine! Thank you!👍
i agree that customer service is excellent, i had the r255mts model and it could not be repaired, i am waiting for the next generation saw to come back in stock, which i will be ordering
Hello from the USA, so back in March of 2020 i decided to buy the Rage 5s based on your review... now that my business is taking off im looking at cabinet saws that will do Dados and 52 inch rip cuts. I was really upset when i found out i could not use my dado blades in this saw. Then i really did my research and found out about European law on Dado stack. I really appreciate the tip on the riving knife as i had been fighting mine for a month before i decided to add a paper wedge to the side and get it to align with the blade... The blade guard is rubbish and i cut off the secondary vacuum port and hooked my shop vac directly to the back of the saw also found that the saw here in the usa the Arbor is 5/8 inch and came with a spacer to adapt to the 1 inch evolution blade. I also agree with you on the blade cover, i wish it was cast aluminum instead of what ever its made out of now... like you i was thinking about a zero clearance insert but think i will make a sled instead. The final point on the miter sled i found it to be sloppy in the channel so to fix it i used 2 strips of Duct tape on the bottom and that tighten it right up. I did have an issue where the saw wouldnt maintain 90 degrees after the saw was turned on and off... then i learned how to tighten up the locking lever and that fixed the issue Just wanted to say this video was spot on with what ive been experiencing with my saw as well.
So based on your informative review i had committed myself to grabbing one at screwfix....... But! Yes there is a blade issue! I telephoned evolution and they confirmed that using any blade other than dedicated evolution blade will absolutely invalidate the warranty. They stated that other blades designed to run at higher speeds will overwork the motor and other blades generally have a bigger kerf which will damage the gearbox 😂 Hitachi here i come!
Thank you for a comprehensive video. I have used bosch full kerf woodworking blades (with reducing ring for the bore) and the saw has performed flawlessly. Still a great saw for the price and very happy with my purchase. P.s. I have a similar problem with my riving knife with it angled slightly so it pulls the work piece away from the fence. I will try your advice to adjust the bolt tension. Great tips.
@@CasualDIY Just a quick question. In the setup and assembly guide there was no mention of how to install a blade in the saw. The blade was already there, it was loose, I was able to turn the nut with my fingers. How do you tighten the blade? Is it just a matter of turning the bolt and tightening it? Is there a lock so the blade does not turn like on my miter saw? On my miter saw, I can push a button to lock the blade while I tighten it. THANKS Clement P.S They did change the guard and added a plastic thing at the front on a angle. I took pictures but don't know how to upload them in the comment of UA-cam.
Hi Tomasz, My machine purchased in the UK September last year has the new type blade guard and for all I have used it for up to now has been no bother at all. I do agree about the soft plate and will be making an aluminium one when I get home (if I get home this year with this virus problem) I will machine a new plate with stiffeners underneath from half inch aluminium plate that should cure that problem. Keep up the good work. Regards Ian
i had one problem with this saw which was an easy fix. using it one day i found the timber was coming away from fence after the cut .the problem was dust extraction hose was attached from the side of saw and had the saw blade assemble under tension and was tilting the blade . easy fix made sure hose was fitted in line with saw and under no tension, after that cuts where good again. Regarding miter gauge looseness , i put some shims in track under gauge pushing it up into track tightening into the sliding bed
Another great review. I use my copy of your sled more often than not! I agree with your point on the riving knife, I had similar issues. It's a great machine though, with some really good features. I also use a Saxton blade with no issues. It came with a full set of reducing rings. Cut wise it's fine.
Hi Tomas, Very good video showing the positives and negatives of your table saw. Think I have a hybrid of your saw. I'm fairly sure that the Chinese manufacturing company that made your saw also make a number of saws to whatever the customer wants. I know that the Chinese can do that well these days. I actually looked for a cheap table saw and found one in Aldi Store, here in Australia. It has many features like yours apart from the fence, clamping front and back or the extensions you have either side. I also don't have a built in sled. And at a mere AUS $149, I can now see why I purchased the "Plain Jack/Jane" of table saws. I need to make a decent sled for mine so I'm off to watch your "How to make a sled? video. Maybe it will give me confidence to know that a sled can work accurately on a pressed steel table top.
This saw has just gone on offer for £180 at screwfix so after watching this really useful review have taken the plunge and ordered one. I will be making myself a sled for it based on your other video too. I'm wondering how big your workshop is as I had a 3.5x4m workshop custom built (that was the largest I could have without needing planning permission!)
What's you view on accuracy of this saw? i.e. if you wanted to remove a fraction of a mm from a previously cut piece is it easy to adjust the fence? also does the fence by small amounts? And does the fence always stay square when moved?
Hi great review. You say this saw can cut full sheets of plywood. With the saw cutting width only 590mm and plywood having a width of 1220mm how would you cut a full sheet down the middle to 610mm
Love your videos, have you ever had to grease anything inside these saws? Mine has started to squeal when under load, are there gears that need greasing? Or other maintenance needed apart from alignment? Thanks keep the good videos coming ☺️
To be fair I only dust it off from time to time that's it. Runs just fine. However in the coming weeks I'll be doing a deep clean of the saw and a bit of maintenance in. A video to follow the process will be out as well
@@CasualDIY perfect I will await your video 😁, thankyou for your reply, keep the good work up I love your builds, just finished a French cleat wall and about to start a flip top mitre saw bench like yours.. you did a tidy job of that 😁
Great review on saw and good tip on riving knife. I'm in the process of making a zero clearance plate. If you want some photo's your than welcome. It still in working process but I think it will work and welcome your input on it.
Hi. I considered selling my saw but a few videos from yourself and there's a setup video by Hand-i-craft that gives some great tips on setting up. Once this saw is setup, at this price there's nothing that can compete. The tip about adding tap to the bottom of the mitre guage by Hand-i-craft is well worth doing I have fit the Freud LP40M 025 250 x 2.8 x 30 x 60T Cross Cutting Saw Blade using a Bosch spacer and had no issues
Hi Tomasz, these saws are now between £320 and £360. At this price do you still think it is worth a purchase? Or would you wait and save an extra £100 to go for a Bosch GTS/DeWalt? I'm just really starting out so I'm looking for a decent table saw to start ripping 4' x 8' sheets, but also something that will last a while. Many thanks and great content sir!!
All depends what features you want from your machine. I thinks the Bosch and DeWalt wont have some of the features that the Rage has. On the other hand you will have higher chance that there wont be any issues with Bosch or DeWalt as rage sometimes has some issues (hence the lower price - but if anything is wrong you can always replace the saw to get a good one) If I were to buy a saw now it would be the Rage 5S or much more expensive table saw with cast iron table, can't see the point of getting anything between as you can get the Rage 5 to be as accurate as the other saws that are in-between. But that is only my opinion.
@@CasualDIY Brilliant Tomasz! Thanks very much. Most appreciated. Just a decent table saw that will cut properly and has a good table extension so I can rip the bigger sheets 👍
Hey Thomaz thanks for the review, are u aware that Amazon have the Saxton blades now with the right bore to fit the 5s , ive just picked up 1 myself so no more reducer rings 😀 happy new yr my friend 👍🍸
Hi, thanks for watching. The product dimension can be found the the Evolution main web site for when the saw is in use. I'm not sure if you want to find out dimensions when the saw is ready to be used or when it's folded away for storage. If the second then let me know and I'll measure it for you 👍
I have just put a Saxton 40t blade into my R185CCSX+ hybrid track saw and the result was a fantastic cut. The track saw (1600w) has a no load speed 3700 rpm and I believe the rage 5 (1500w) is 2500 rpm , based on UK 220-240v
Thanks for the review and update! I also have this saw (not common in Germany) but wish I would have spend a bit more. I made a zero clearance insert from acylic for it and installed a soft start. That thing was really scary to turn on before that :) Also made an insert for a router. Biggest problem with it now is the parallel guide. It is just not reliable without measuring front and back each time. Also better to clamp it down to reliably stay in place. The riving knife sometimes also causes problems as it seems to be slightly bent. Guess that can be fixed. All in all the saw is ok, very mobile and better than anything else in this price range that I know. Also: Dust collection, flatness of the table, blade guard not opening reliable or getting into the way (I just removed it)... it has its limitations and I should have invested more, but all in all - yeah it is not bad. So if anyone is interested in mine - let me know 😂Anna
It's not perfect that's true but for the money I could not find anything better. Just made a zero clearance plate as well from hard wood. If you want check it out 😁👍
Casual DIY saw that 😂i bought acrylic with the correct thickness to do so. Aluminum would of course have been better. The information about the riving knife was also very interesting. I will check if this solves the problem on mine, too. Congratulations on your channel! Also really like the cyclone dust collection and will try to build something like that.
It seems making a zero clearance plate for this particular saw should give you more options. Seeing that you can make it of sheet metal or aluminum. Thanks for sharing your experience with this saw.
Hi Thomasz instant fix with the zero clearance plate, and I have always done this with all table saws is once the fence is were you want it, I just push a peace of thin plywood or mdf though the blade then clamp in place, problem sorted!!
good morning Tomasz, I have ungraded to the new translucence blade guard and find it much safer/better. That said for a lot of my cuts I don't use the guard, I use a Grr-Ripper. Thanks for the tip on the riving knife. ive had mine about 6 months and the blade supplied still does a great job. Ive put Gorilla tape on the base of my sliding mitre and that has improved the fit.
Yes I find it that in most of my work the blade guard would just get in the way. You just need to be aware of what you are doing and you'll be ok. I wonder if you can order that new blade guard 🤔
Hi Tomasz, I purchased the Rage 5S on Xmas and so I used it since a couple months. I agree about all you said. Its main issue is the plate, which is too flexible when you push on it and it has a too wide gap in which cut-offs get stuck, therefore impeding the cut of thin pieces without substantially ruining them. I just ordered a sheet of 4mm thick aluminium to make a zero-clearance plate out of it but I hope to see your solution before. I did not have any other issue. My saw was already delivered with the “new/improved” safety blade guard. I find it cumbersome, it obstructs cuts of thin and/or narrow pieces and I do not use it most of the time - basically because one cannot use it altogether with a table sled. Unfortunately, without it, you lose a big part of the sawdust collection, sa one of the two tubes is attached over the guard. Being it my first tablesaw, I preferred to buy a wood-dedicated blade from Evolution, mainly because I read about the risk of having the blade wobbling if used with an adapter ring. I’m looking forward any serious test of 30mm-bore blades on this saw. As per the underneath dust spillage, maybe it could be solved via a sensible use of tape (something I'm not very keen to, being old and fat.) All said, I think I made a very good purchase, even at 350€ (price of Amazon Italy; today it’s at 380).
Im hoping to make a zero clearance plate that I will be able to replicate. I had few people asking me to make something so I will be experimenting in the next few weeks. I found that even without the blade guard the dust it's not too bad.
Hi Harry, sorry for the late reply, I have missed your comment somehow. The Rage 5S mitre track is build like a T-Track. So the wider section in my model is 24mm and the narrower is 19mm. Hope this helps and apologies for the late reply. have a grat week 👍
That's an impressive little saw with the extendable table wings and the built in sliding table. You have to use the best specific blades for the job you can afford. There is no problem using the reducing bushes at all apart from they must be a good fit and thinner than the blade. They are common practice in lots of wood machine shops. Great review. Pitty about the low spindle speed.
@@CasualDIY Can you speed the saw up electronically? 5000 TO 6000 would give you a far superior finish and it would be less like a chopping action that the slow speed creates.
@@eyuptony it would potentially be doable but only if you can replace the stock single phase motor with a 3-phase alternative. You can then run the power supply to the motor through a single-to-3-phase variable frequency drive (“VFD”). VFDs can be bought fairly cheaply (around the £100 area for a Chinese made one from ebay), but a decent one might set you back up to £500 or £600 depending on the wattage of the motor. The cheaper ones usually aren’t dustproofed so you have to build your own housing for them to keep them safe whereas some of the more expensive models (example: American made K-BAC inverter VFDs) come ready installed in a dedicated IP65 housing. It’s essentially impossible to effectively just add a speed controller to a single phase motor as, in order to alter the speed, the controller employs variable voltage - which drastically reduces the torque of the motor to slow it down, and doesn’t give you the ability to go past the full operating voltage of the machine in order to increase the RPMs as that would be highly unsafe I presume. Whereas a VFD inverter drive alters the frequency of the current to slow down or speed up the motor, and they can be programmed to run up to double the standard frequency provided by the domestic outlet. They invert the domestic single phase supply out to 3-phase to power the motor. I have a K-BAC VFD currently installed on my belt grinder and it cost around £350 I’m pretty sure. So on top of the cost of the motor (if a suitable replacement exists), you’d probably be looking at around a £400-£500 outlay on top of the original cost of the table saw. Whether that would make the whole idea no longer worthwhile is debatable, but it would be pretty cool to have a table saw with variable blade speed…!
Well I followed the advice of many and bought a Rage 5-s, and its been a disater, their customer service is poor, should have been delivered on Tuesday but arrived 4 days late, opened the box and loose nuts, bolts and washers fell out. I assembled following their video as the manual was not good, to later find out there are errors in the video. During assembly I noticed corrosion under the paint on the pressed metal base along with a dint, I discovered where the bits loose in the box went and installed them along with tightening up many loose screws/nuts & bolts, got ready to try the saw to find the blade fouling the plastic dust extraction case, this was worse with the Evolution wood blade as its actually bigger by a few mm that the standard blade. Also all the plastics around the blade are very loose, this may be correct, but who knows, I am waiting for a new dust extraction case as they think mine may be warped, all in all not a good start.
Hi Tomasz I notice your riving knife is about level with your blade. To stop the crown guard from interfering with your work piece you will need to adjust the riving knife so it sits about 10mm above the blade level. This should solve your issue.
Might be a stupid question, but can you not cut a narrow groove in a piece of hardboard, and simply hold it in place covering the blade with a couple of clamps, for when you're cutting very narrow pieces?
Hi, Thanks for the walk-through. As mentioned before, I've actually purchased this saw (£219 on Amazon) based on your and other reviews. I look forward to your review of the alternative blade performance. Personally, I had no real issues out of the box. The blade was absolutely perpendicular to the table and the fence was parallel to the blade. Although it came with the new, clear plastic blade guard, I don't use it, so can't comment on how good it is. I'll be doing a lot of thin strip cutting, so no matter how good it is, it will just get in the way. The contrast with my old, scabby Scheppach is night and day. The fence is superb, as is the extendable table! Okay, it sounds like a bullet out of a rifle on startup, and, like the Scheppach is quite noisy in operation, but it costs less than my orbital sander, so I really can't grumble. One minor alteration I did make, was to the fence locking mechanism. I'm not too keen on forcing the leaver all the way home each time I make an adjustment, but unless you use the rather bizarre, bolt-on attachment, the leaver gets in the way of the material. The solution is to shave around 4mm off the left hand side. Again, thanks for sharing.
Exactly usually the saw will come perfect it's just pure luck I think. The handle on my fence was getting bit stiff but I put some WD40 and it's fine, locks all the way down and I have no issues with it. Thanks for watching my videos 👍😁
Thank you Thomas, for a great informative and interesting video, I check my riving knife on my saw today, although my machine is a Titan, which is ok, I will probably update in the near future. Thank you again Take care Sam
@@CasualDIY , Tomasz, great news I looked at other reviews on this, so far to be fair are all reasonable favourable. For a fellow Casual DIY'r it would suit my needs for the money.
Hi there, Wondering if you have used the black sliders (front and back rail 057-0314, 057-0313 on parts diagram) and do they also fit into T slots on table top and can be used to make jigs. cheers
Hello. I thinking about Dewalt but it's not the cheapest table saw. I'm just starting my travel in woodworking. Do you think i can take something mutch better for more money? I think about couple projects in my garden like pergola, chair, table, fence. Maybe in future if i learned more make kitchen cabinets. Thanks
From my perspective and experience now if you can afford then buy the better more expensive tool. I was in that predicament myself few times and always went for the cheaper option. Then the cheaper option broke or I have very quickly outgrown its capabilities. And then I had to buy the more expensive tool anyway - so I lost money in the long run buying the cheaper tool. But that's just my opinion. Where it comes to tables saws especially I would buy the best you can afford.
@@CasualDIY if you had chance something buy now, what you choose? Problem at this moment, is no tools at all... In 3hr gone all 10 evolution saw :D so i grab one because I don't find nothing better and if i find something better it's out of stock :D
Hi Thomas, I have had big problems with the RAGE5-Stable saw. I bought one and found the table was distorted, so I changed the machine. However the new one also had exactly the same faults. This means that some or all of these machines are made with a table that is not sufficently flat. You can see the video I made showing the faults. Neither of the two machines I have had are able to cut accurately. The machines were both fine for cutting large sheet material but you could not machine up a nice rectangular section of timber for joinery purposes. The measured angular distortion between the table to the left and to the right of the blade is between 2-4degrees. @ . Can you check your machine and see if your table is flat. I wonder if I should try and swap for a third machine or give up? Many thanks.
Hi, Unfortunately my saw is in storage and the earliest I will have access to it is June. But I can confirm, my table was flat. Only if you extended the right wing to full capacity then that had a bit of slack to it. But o have heard on few occasions that people had that problem. Mainly due to the carriage being 1mm higher than the rest of the table top. I would contact Evolution directly and hopefully they could send you a version that was checked prior sending to make sure you get a good one.
Great information! While assembling my Rage 5s, I found a small black spring about half an inch long and a little over a quarter inch in diameter with a hook on each end. The instruction doesn't mention this anywhere. Online parts print seem to have it around the latch pin of the stand, but it's a bit difficult to tell due to small size. Do you know where this black spring belongs and how it should be installed? Thanks!
I think its the one that is next to the leaver that release the stand so you can fold it. Hope that helps, if not drop me an email with the photo of the spring. I'll try to find it on my saw then for you.
As a newbie, I'm just starting out, I have been looking at table saws and this Evo was at the top of my list. Having watched your very informative video (thank you) I am just a little worried that it may not be the best choice. I can afford a little more than £300 for a saw, but not the thousands that are needed for professional ones. Would you recommend this saw for a beginner, or should I perhaps consider spending another 1 or 2 hundred pounds on a DW, Bosch or similar?
If you can spend more but only if you will be using it. Otherwise it will be just a waste of money. Check Metabo table saws they are quite good and not so expensive
I heard from the manufacturer that this saw does not support a dado set up. Have you been able to manufacture a plate to allow it to run a dado set up? I was ready to pull the trigger and buy one of these until I found that out.
@@CasualDIY well if anyone deserves to get one it’s you, considering the amount of content you’ve made on it. And the amount of sales you’ve sent their way with your coverage of it.
I think i was a lucky one! Came square and good. Newer design blade guard was good but came badly adjusted, i needed to raise the riving knife higher to allow wood to go full height of blade. Overall very happy so far! Will prob change the blade soon though, not a great fan of it.
The main blades I'm using are the Saxton ones and Freud. Both brands do very well. I would check them for the desired blade. Although the Freud will require a reducing ring.
How can I adjust the rip fence? My rip fence has a play in the untightened state, which means that the rip fence is not really parallel when tightened. Thanks for your answer.
I have the same saw and love it, used it to build a whole kitchen. However I'm confused about the fence extension ("rip fence plate") that comes with it. The manual is ambiguous but says something to the effect of "the rip fence plate must be attached to the fence for safety reasons". So I leave mine on all the time. It's obviously safer as there's no chance of pinching, but I lose about 5cm of cut width and it is harder to get straight cuts on some boards. Interested in your views on it. Clearly you don't use it on your saw.
Hmm never found the need to use it. It all depends on your work flow and set up I guess. But for some cuts like with the mitre gauge it's a must for safety reasons.
Hi, Great video and very helpful because I have just picked up a second hand Rage 5-S. the one thing I have noticed is that at the moment, the blade is not parallel to the mitre slots. You covered how to adjust the rip gate but do you know if you can adjust the blade itself to bring it parallel to the mitre slots? Thanks
I consider my self a keen novice so question may be stupid but was wondering can t track clamps, bolts etc be used on the table and if so what size bolts should be used. Thanks in anticipation of an answer.
Hi this saw has 1800w I don't think they make it at 1500w. It means how much power it has, the more power the easier it will be on the saw to operate. Straight comparison would be a 2liter care engine vs 1.8l similar thing. But I'm not a technician not have the knowledge to exactly explain the difference or how those engines would operate.
Hi Tomasz (sorry if I've misspelt your name incorrectly) and many thanks for trying to help me to decide. Could you let me know the difference between the Evolution Rage 5S and the Fury-5 Table Saws. Maybe one of them is newer than the other, but I'd like to know please. Many thanks
Hi, you spelt it perfectly to be honest 👍 Not used the Fury saw but my understanding is that it's much poorer version. None of the features like the sliding carriage or extendable table that Rage 5S has.
Hi Tomasz, been watching your great videos and especially the reviews of the Rage 5S and decided to take the plunge and buy one. Due to shortages (possibly caused by your good reviews) I have had to wait 5 weeks. It arrived today and I have finally got it assembled and was checking over the settings. I found that 0/90 deg stop was about 1deg out so have had to adjust it. But I was hoping you would answer a question for me. The table top is not perfectly flat, possibly 1 to 1.5 mm bow from front to back. Do you think that is acceptable?
Hi Thomasz Could you not make the clearance plate stronger from underneath? I also have one of these and am very happy with it. I had a bent extension arm when I got it and as you say, they were very helpful and efficient. Thanks for the vids.
Confirming that the model I purchased 4 months ago in Australia has the new blade guard. Also, I made a zero clearance plate for my saw shortly after purchase, out of a single piece of 9mm play. I routed out the edges to allow it to sit recessed in the throat of the table. I had some pipe brackets/clamps that I flattened out and cut to size to use as my locking mechanism. It works really well with no flex. If anyone wants pictures, let me know and I'll send some.
G'day Max. I'm from Oz too. I have just purchased this table saw also. Have yet to assemble it. But would also love to take you up on your offer of photos. lifeiskarma@gmail.com Thanks in advance.

Hi, I enjoyed the video. Could anyone say the size of the table saw when it is plicated? I need to know If I have enough space in my workshop. Thanks for all
Great review and purchased one based on your initial review.Agree with everything you have said Looking forward to your follow up on the Triton planer thicknesser
Hej, pytanie od współplemieńca - czy ta piła jest aż tak niezła? Krążę wokół jej zakupu i mam wybór między DeWalt dwe7492 a nią. Wciąż zwlekam z decyzją bo to jednak prawie nieznany model w Polsce i brak obiektywnych ocen
@@CasualDIY Toś mi namieszał. Poczytałem o DeWalcie i w sumie większość to pozytywy choć nie brak narzekania. . Evolution się mi podoba z samego wyglądu i specyfikacji. A chcę wyposażyć powoli mały warsztat/stolarnię i szukam optymalnego sprzętu. Mam zachomikowane kilka złotych. A gdyby szukać ukośnicy i wyrówniarki?

Just FYI, I'm using a Diablo 90-tooth blade (expensive beast but great for wood crosscuts, ply, etc.). The blade is 30mm bore but comes with its own set of adaptor rings including 25.4mm, and I've had no problems with it. BTW my blade guard works fine (it's the clear type). I had to raise the riving knife so that the guard attachment hole is at least 10mm above the blade; then the work piece always fits under the guard when the blade is at that height.
Yes Diablo blades are very good, I have heard the legends 😀 You see I got the old version of the guard, the black one. And it just catches the wood piece at the front. But hey I'm thinking of a solution for that as well.
@@CasualDIY can your evolution take a dado blade? I bought a version from China which they show can support a dado blade. Also, how well does the motor handle say 3 inch hardwood? Mine says 2000w but not sure how that translates to HP.
@@bartekkoch It all depends on the use. I'm quite happy with the one I currently have in my workshop. You can check it out here ua-cam.com/video/3oAFGhgmfaU/v-deo.html
Bit of advice please. I’m looking at the new Metabo 254m (£319) is this a better option than using the money saved to make a better fence/crossled (like yours) on the Rage 5
My brother has the Metabo saw and he is very happy with it. Cross cut sled has got it's place for any saw its a great addition worth having. I think the Metabo offers great quality. But the table is smaller, Rage 5S extends from both sides and it has the build it mitre sled as well ( which I really like) it all depends what you need your tool to do for you. From my perspective the only other saw I would consider is a cast iron panel saw( foe which I will never have the space for or budget)
Casual DIY thank you so much for the reply and so prompt. Rage it is then! And thanks you for all the vids. I’m watching tons and your reviews and builds are excellent!
Saxton Saw blades do blades that will fit, they are 30mm bore but they supply a reduction ring to fit 25.4mm. I but all my blades from them, they are better priced and decent quality. I use them for my Dewalt recipocating saw, my circular, and my current table saw. I am thinking about one of these for space purposes. I have an evolution motor- gen- power wash setup and it's great, not had any problems (yet). by the way you can find Saxton on Amazon, or direct.
Peter, from Australia will be looking at buying one of these when the new stock lands in the country, my biggest concern, do you think the machine could rip through 4x3 Oregon without damaging motor? Cost here is $550 the other saw I’m looking at is the Makita MLT 100 which revs a lot higher then the evolution
Hmm the Evolution in theory got more that enough power to tackle that. But with the speed difference will make it easier or harder to tackle that task I do not know I'm afraid.
Hi bought the Dewalt, was getting desperate at the time nobody had stock, I should’ve bought the bigger one mine only as the 8 1/4 blade good saw though, well so far, built it into a large workbench to compensate for the small table on the saw, Thanks Peter
Did you know that the arrow on the plate that holds the riving knife, should be pointing towards the centre of the blade, and not up, the way you have it? This will / would have caused you issues.. I only know this as I have just watched the setup video for the 5S, posted by Evolution.
Thanks for your videos on this saw, I bought one based on your reviews! How do you ensure the blade is parallel with the mitre slots? There doesn't seem to be any adjustment apart from the 4x hex bolts which isn't very precise. If I could align the blade with the slots, it would make keeping the fence and my sled square a lot easier. Maybe I'm doing something wrong!
I've heard that you can shift the motor somehow. If you email Evolution customer services they will advice you exactly how to do it and they'll send you a full detail manual. Hope this helps.
I have not done it myself but I've heard there are 4 bolts that hold the table top and you undo them to align. But if you email Evolution customer service they will send you a more detailed booklet with all those details.
Hi Thomas.... would you still recommend this table saw in a price range of £500-700? I have watched a lot of reviews for this table saw which seem ok but there are lots of glitches like you've mentioned and the horror stories on Amazon UK 🇬🇧 with damaged tables etc has put me off. I did look at the Metabo TS254 and i tried to find a Dewalt model which it says is currently unavailable. I'm a beginner looking to get into woodworking so would appreciate any advice. Thanks 👍🏻
Its better quality overall. No a different model I think with a mobile stand. With Evolution there is a big chance you will get a saw with issues ( I can imagine poor manufacturing that reduces the cost of the machine ) Metabo from my experience and views of my friends is just better quality.
@@CasualDIY can you tell me which model Metabo so i can look. I was buying the evolution this weekend but after lots of research glad i didn't. It's a shame because the price of the evolution is good with good options just poorly put together in some areas. You shouldn't have to fettle with a machine to get straight cuts ...blades of course are a different matter and i did watch your video on them. I had seen Saxton and now at least I know are pretty good.
Its this one Metabo HPT C10RJS. But all the table saws from Metabo are solid and frankly very similar to each other. Yes the Saxton blades are very good.
Hi Great review I purchased this saw last week after watching your and other reviews here on youtube. Works great for me straight out the box. Plus Saxon are now producing blades with the 25.4 mm diameter which is a bonus (available on Amazon)
Lol I need to check them I got one with 30mm that would be much safer to have a blade with 25.4mm
This video was excellent, really excellent! Very matter of fact whilst remaining interesting. You have a very relaxed style, very natural. Subscribed! I came specifically as want this saw, I don’t trust the manufacturer reviews for honestly outlining the pros and cons as you did. Great job!
Thank you kindly, welcome aboard 👍
@@whomadethatsaltysoup yes these is few options to improve the dust collection and eventually I'll will have to think if something as well 🤪
@@CasualDIY could it be as simple as taping up the gaps around the blade maybe?
Yes that's true the mitre slots a different size as well which can be troublesome. Glad that my video was some help :)
What were these other adjustments? I have the same issue with the fence not being perpendicular to the table when it's locked in :
@@Xziriz with the fence I only undo the two bolts on the top of the fence and that fixed it for me👍

Glad that my video was some help 👍
I've had mine almost a year now and it's fine. Dust under the saw I am going to build a collection box with an additional extraction outlet. Also, I have a Dewalt blade on mine with a reducer and it is fine. The mitre is bad so I have built a mitre sled for mine and it produces great results super quick.
That's good to know that the saw works well with different blades. There is nothing better than self made jig 😁👍
I too had to return my Evolution mitre saw twice before I got one which was correctly machined but as you said Evolution customer service was just very helpful every time and sorted out the issues very quickly.
Yes they are quite good at helping to make things right
I like your vids, (a) well reasoned reviews based on long term use; (b) you use tools that I can sometimes afford; and, most of all (c) your workshop is about as small as mine! Thank you!👍

i agree that customer service is excellent, i had the r255mts model and it could not be repaired, i am waiting for the next generation saw to come back in stock, which i will be ordering
I did have an issue where the saw wouldnt maintain 90 degrees after the saw was turned on and off... then i learned how to tighten up the locking lever and that fixed the issue
Just wanted to say this video was spot on with what ive been experiencing with my saw as well.
Hmm interesting slight differences. Yes we more or less can't use dado stacks 🤔
Good luck with your business 👍
So based on your informative review i had committed myself to grabbing one at screwfix....... But! Yes there is a blade issue! I telephoned evolution and they confirmed that using any blade other than dedicated evolution blade will absolutely invalidate the warranty.
They stated that other blades designed to run at higher speeds will overwork the motor and other blades generally have a bigger kerf which will damage the gearbox 😂
Hitachi here i come!
Great tips.
Thanks 👍 its a solid saw, just needs a bit of love 😁👍
Thanks for the review. I am receiving mine today and I am looking forward to it.
Thank you for watching 👍
@@CasualDIY Just a quick question. In the setup and assembly guide there was no mention of how to install a blade in the saw.
The blade was already there, it was loose, I was able to turn the nut with my fingers.
How do you tighten the blade? Is it just a matter of turning the bolt and tightening it?
Is there a lock so the blade does not turn like on my miter saw? On my miter saw, I can push a button to lock the blade while I tighten it.
THANKS
Clement
P.S They did change the guard and added a plastic thing at the front on a angle. I took pictures but don't know how to upload them in the comment of UA-cam.
You get two keys for the blade. Very simple operation. The blade needs to be tightly secured.

up to now has been no bother at all. I do agree about the soft plate and will be making an aluminium one when I get home (if I get home this year with this virus problem) I will machine a new plate with stiffeners underneath from half inch aluminium plate that should cure that problem. Keep up the good work. Regards Ian
Thanks Ian, that's good they made some amendments to the blade guard. I wish you safe journey mate. It's madness with this virus everywhere.
Holy cow, Tomasz - your shop has been revolutionized the last time I saw the first review. It's *so* damn orderly. I *must* like it.
Hehe thank you 😁👍
i had one problem with this saw which was an easy fix. using it one day i found the timber was coming away from fence after the cut .the problem was dust extraction hose was attached from the side of saw and had the saw blade assemble under tension and was tilting the blade . easy fix made sure hose was fitted in line with saw and under no tension, after that cuts where good again. Regarding miter gauge looseness , i put some shims in track under gauge pushing it up into track tightening into the sliding bed

Yes mate the sled is a perfect solution and I can understand why I not made it earlier lol
Now that's a good price

What's you view on accuracy of this saw? i.e. if you wanted to remove a fraction of a mm from a previously cut piece is it easy to adjust the fence? also does the fence by small amounts? And does the fence always stay square when moved?
I wouldn't recommend this saw for very precise work. It's possible to make those cuts but it will take some setting up to do it.
Great videos.... can you do a video on how to tune up the table saw

Hi. I considered selling my saw but a few videos from yourself and there's a setup video by Hand-i-craft that gives some great tips on setting up. That's cool. It's a good tool just needs a bit of love 😉
On the other hand you will have higher chance that there wont be any issues with Bosch or DeWalt as rage sometimes has some issues (hence the lower price - but if anything is wrong you can always replace the saw to get a good one)
If I were to buy a saw now it would be the Rage 5S or much more expensive table saw with cast iron table, can't see the point of getting anything between as you can get the Rage 5 to be as accurate as the other saws that are in-between. But that is only my opinion.
@@CasualDIY Brilliant Tomasz! Thanks very much. Most appreciated. Just a decent table saw that will cut properly and has a good table extension so I can rip the bigger sheets 👍

What are the dimensions of saw folded up?
Hi, thanks for watching.
The product dimension can be found the the Evolution main web site for when the saw is in use. I'm not sure if you want to find out dimensions when the saw is ready to be used or when it's folded away for storage. If the second then let me know and I'll measure it for you 👍
Casual DIY I want to know the size when it is folded. Could you measure it please? That would be really helpful!
I have just put a Saxton 40t blade into my R185CCSX+ hybrid track saw and the result was a fantastic cut. The track saw (1600w) has a no load speed 3700 rpm and I believe the rage 5 (1500w) is 2500 rpm , based on UK 220-240v
I will be testing the Rage 5s with 3 different blades soon 😁👍
@@CasualDIY I don't have a Rage 5 but I look forward to your test.
@@LuteandTheorbo hehe thanks, yes the cyclone was a bit if a dust game changer for me. It works fantastic 👍
It seems making a zero clearance plate for this particular saw should give you more options. Seeing that you can make it of sheet metal or aluminum. Thanks for sharing your experience with this saw.
Thank you for watching 👍
Hi Thomasz instant fix with the zero clearance plate, and I have always done this with all table saws is once the fence is were you want it, I just push a peace of thin plywood or mdf though the blade then clamp in place, problem sorted!!
Lol such a simple idea but I never thought of that. Thanks mate👍😁
good morning Tomasz, I have ungraded to the new translucence blade guard and find it much safer/better.
Tomasz I ordered mine from evolution. You do need to specify the clear guard. 0114 2511022 option 2
Awsome thank you 👍
Hi Tomasz, I purchased the Rage 5S on Xmas and so I used it since a couple months.
As per the underneath dust spillage, maybe it could be solved via a sensible use of tape (something I'm not very keen to, being old and fat.)
All said, I think I made a very good purchase, even at 350€ (price of Amazon Italy; today it’s at 380).
Im hoping to make a zero clearance plate that I will be able to replicate. I had few people asking me to make something so I will be experimenting in the next few weeks. I found that even without the blade guard the dust it's not too bad.
Saxton do blades on their website that are specifically made to fit the evolution saw. Reasonable prices too.
Yes got them and tested them in my latest video. They are very good😁👍
Is it noisy? Was looking forward to hearing it in action
Yes its fairly loud

Hi Harry,
sorry for the late reply, I have missed your comment somehow. The Rage 5S mitre track is build like a T-Track. So the wider section in my model is 24mm and the narrower is 19mm. Hope this helps and apologies for the late reply. have a grat week 👍
@@CasualDIY Many thanks Thomas, Very helpful advice. Good to know that the slot is of so called £standard dimensions". Keep up with the good work.
Does the standard blade cut white board cleaning without chipping it?
By white board you mean laminate?
have you had any issue with blade wobble ? I'm reading amazon reviews and seeing that. Makes me a little leary of purchasing
Blade wobble? No. Must have been installed incorrectly or the blade is bent.
Yes I hope that reducing ring will not cause any issues. I'm more concerned about the lower RPMS 🤔
@@CasualDIY Can you speed the saw up electronically? 5000 TO 6000 would give you a far superior finish and it would be less like a chopping action that the slow speed creates.
@@eyuptony no idea mate I'm not that technically inclined 😂🤣
Good man. Keep them vids coming.
Oh they will 👍

Thank you for watching
Not greater at all. I would complain and ask for replacement.
Hi Tomasz I notice your riving knife is about level with your blade. To stop the crown guard from interfering with your work piece you will need to adjust the riving knife so it sits about 10mm above the blade level. This should solve your issue.
Thats correct, had to lower the riving knife for my sled and was too lazy to put it back...🤔
Might be a stupid question, but can you not cut a narrow groove in a piece of hardboard, and simply hold it in place covering the blade with a couple of clamps, for when you're cutting very narrow pieces?
You could I guess it all depends how safe that would be🤔
Hi, Thanks for the walk-through.

@@CasualDIY Thanks Thomas - It is interesting to note that my machine may not be not typical.
can't you put some tape around the mitre gauge track to make it fit better?
Yes you can 😁👍
Great information!

I'm going to try and paint quality enamel onto the miter gauge and bake it in the oven and see if that closes the gap.
I heard from the manufacturer that this saw does not support a dado set up. Have you been able to manufacture a plate to allow it to run a dado set up? I was ready to pull the trigger and buy one of these until I found that out.
Here in the EU the dado stack is sort of banned from the DIY market unfortunately.
@@CasualDIY Whoa!! Banned???? Why is that? I was today years old when I realized that a dado cut is banned in a country. That is odd. :O

I think i was a lucky one! Came square and good. Newer design blade guard was good but came badly adjusted, i needed to raise the riving knife higher to allow wood to go full height of blade. Overall very happy so far! Will prob change the blade soon though, not a great fan of it.
That's good mate, it's the last thing you want when you get a new toy and there's something wrong with it😂
can you recommend me a 1/4 inch thick saw blade for this table saw. Thanks
There are two bolts on top of the fence. Did you try those?
Hi,
Great video and very helpful because I have just picked up a second hand Rage 5-S. the one thing I have noticed is that at the moment, the blade is not parallel to the mitre slots. You covered how to adjust the rip gate but do you know if you can adjust the blade itself to bring it parallel to the mitre slots? Thanks
I think the whole table can be moved the motor is held by some bolts that can be adjusted but I've not had that problem myself so I not done myself.
I consider my self a keen novice so question may be stupid but was wondering can t track clamps, bolts etc be used on the table and if so what size bolts should be used. Thanks in anticipation of an answer.
Not sure where you want to place them? Check out my video on making a cross cut sled. I got t-tracks in it😁👍

Hi, thank you for the review. Can you tell me the difference between the 1800w vs the 1500w ?
Thanks
Hi this saw has 1800w I don't think they make it at 1500w. It means how much power it has, the more power the easier it will be on the saw to operate. Straight comparison would be a 2liter care engine vs 1.8l similar thing. But I'm not a technician not have the knowledge to exactly explain the difference or how those engines would operate.
@@CasualDIY Thank you for the answer.
Many thanks
Hi, you spelt it perfectly to be honest 👍
Not used the Fury saw but my understanding is that it's much poorer version. None of the features like the sliding carriage or extendable table that Rage 5S has.
@@CasualDIY Thanks very much and appreciate your time
Hi Tomasz, been watching your great videos and especially the reviews of the Rage 5S and decided to take the plunge and buy one.
Hi. It should be flat in my opinion as this may cause inaccuracies with your work. I would drop an email to Evolution customer service 👍

Hi Thomasz Could you not make the clearance plate stronger from underneath? I also have one of these and am very happy with it. I had a bent extension arm when I got it and as you say, they were very helpful and efficient. Thanks for the vids.
Yes I was thinking about it, I was thinking of gluing a piece of aluminium underneath the plate but not sure if that would be enough🤔
Sloppy mitre gauge isn't exclusive to budget brands like evolution, I just bought a dewalt table saw with the same issue
Well that's a shame I would expect something better from Dewalt
Confirming that the model I purchased 4 months ago in Australia has the new blade guard.
Also, I made a zero clearance plate for my saw shortly after purchase, out of a single piece of 9mm play. I routed out the edges to allow it to sit recessed in the throat of the table. I had some pipe brackets/clamps that I flattened out and cut to size to use as my locking mechanism.
It works really well with no flex.
If anyone wants pictures, let me know and I'll send some.
I'll be attempting the zero clearance plate this week. Can I have the photo please? My email is casualdiyuk@gmail.com

Yes Diablo blades are very good, I have heard the legends 😀
You see I got the old version of the guard, the black one. And it just catches the wood piece at the front. But hey I'm thinking of a solution for that as well.

Cost here is $550 the other saw I’m looking at is the Makita MLT 100 which revs a lot higher then the evolution
Hmm the Evolution in theory got more that enough power to tackle that. But with the speed difference will make it easier or harder to tackle that task I do not know I'm afraid.
Peter - which table saw did you end up buying?
Hi bought the Dewalt, was getting desperate at the time nobody had stock, I should’ve bought the bigger one mine only as the 8 1/4 blade good saw though, well so far, built it into a large workbench to compensate for the small table on the saw,
Thanks Peter

Hope this helps.
you will need to untie both screws behind the blade not just the one on the left as Thomas said, then you can align, the blade (and the motor)
Hi Mate my saw blade is not parallel to t track how do i adjust table top to fix.
I have not done it myself but I've heard there are 4 bolts that hold the table top and you undo them to align. But if you email Evolution customer service they will send you a more detailed booklet with all those details.
