About the Piezo; Yes you need to replace the individual saddle. Call Music man. Tell them the D string is dead on the piezo. You can order the individual D string saddle with piezo and wire connected and then you can solder the new one in. I know from experience being a guitar center tech and Jp Musicman owner.

Hey John, The same thing happened with my G string and i called music man and they told me they don't make that bridge anymore. So I had to buy a brand new Fishman Powerbridge with the power chip. Cost me $800

@@danielholden01 On a JP? Has the bridge ever been changed? They definitely still make the JP and Majesty bridge unless maybe it’s a specific color they don’t do anymore?

I own a second or third gen jp6, the one with the d-sonic, and my saddle piece fell out in the piezo. Spoke with Ebmm and they didn't make those specific bridges any longer so they had to send me the newer version. The catch, all the electronics had to be sent back first as they said it was patented and had to be returned before the replacement was sent.

  • @jgmenino
    @jgmenino Рік тому +25

My Majesty has a similar issue with the piezo. I reached out Ernie Ball’s customer service and they were very friendly. You can order a single piezo and replace it as long as they have it in stock (they will ask for a picture of the saddle, there’s a dot or some numbers in order to identify the piezo model), otherwise you can request all six saddles so they have the same output. And they ship to Sweden.

    • @jgmenino
      @jgmenino Рік тому +3

Then you just need to solder it on the bridge system, replacing the previous one. You will need to unscrew the bridge off the body for that though, but other than that is quite trivial for someone with basic soldering skills.

How do I set up my John Petrucci guitar?
    Floating Petrucci Tremolo (including Majesty)
    1. String the guitar
    2. Set the bridge plate height
    a. Tune up the inner 4 (or 5) strings until some amount of tension is placed on the trem system.
    i. This will help keep the bridge from “jumping” on the pivot screws and in its natural resting place while performing the setup.
ii. Full string tension, tuned to exact pitch, is not necessary.
iii. Tension is only placed on the inner 4 (or 5) strings as to not permanently nick the outer strings while adjusting the pivot screws.
    b. Raise or lower the bridge using the pivot screws until the plate is level and flush with the top of the body.
    i. Ensure the bass and treble sides are even by sighting from the back of the bridge.
    c. Move the trem through its full range of motion. If the front edge of the plate contacts the recess (usually at the end of the dive bomb motion), raise the bridge until it moves unimpeded.
    3. Block the tremolo
    a. Place an object to block the bridge between the bridge plate and body.
    i. You can use anything that will support the bridge under tension and not mar the finish. A folded piece of cardboard wrapped in masking tape works well.
    b. Maneuver the bridge and block to where the bridge plate sits level with the body, supported by the block and held in place by the tension on the springs.
    c. Tune to pitch. If the bridge plate begins to lift out of the recess, more spring tension is needed. An extra spring (up to five) can be added to the rear trem cavity if necessary.
    i. Check that the trem springs are engaged through the entire range of motion. If they disengage from the claw when the bridge is pulled back, remove a spring and readjust the claw.
ii. Generally, 9-42 string sets will use two springs. 10-46, 11-48, and 10-52 will use three. Heavier gauges in standard tuning can use four or even five springs, but drop tuning will usually lessen the tension to only require three or four.
    4. Follow setup instructions for a hardtail guitar.
    5. Float the bridge
    a. With the tremolo still blocked, tune to pitch.
    b. Stretch the strings and re-tune.
    c. Loosen the trem claw screws until the bridge block pulls out easily.
    d. Remove the block.
    e. Pluck the G string, and observe its pitch on a tuner. It will likely be out of tune.
    f. Adjust the trem claw to bring the open G back in tune. When the string reaches the correct pitch, the bridge should return to where it was originally set when blocked.
    i. If the bridge is not floating correctly, tighten the trem claw/springs, re-block the bridge, and repeat steps a-d.
    6. Double-check the setup and enjoy!!
    a. If experiencing fret buzz on the first few frets (1~4), the truss rod needs to be loosened. If experiencing buzz in the middle of the neck (frets 6~10) the truss rod needs to be tightened.
    b. If experiencing fret buzz across the entire neck, the bridge saddles need to be raised.
    c. If making adjustments to the setup after the bridge has been floated, it may be necessary to re-block and re-float the bridge.

I got a JP15 the other day. Everything I’ve ever heard about them is true, they are absolutely insane and versatile. The neck alone makes it worth the price. I play all high end guitars, Ibanez Jem, Prestige, Pia, Mayones, ESP, even Solar. This guitar beats them all. I play metal and shred, but I love nerding out on acoustic tones with Piezo. Every time I play it all I can say is “this guitar is insane”.

I think the JP looks more normal than the majesty which makes it preferable to most guitarists but I vastly prefer to play the Majesty. The beveled body feels much better under my arms (helps since I’ve been having some nerve pain) and both my Majesties are incredibly light. Also the recessed switch is in the perfect place for me, I end up running into the pickup switch on the JP.

I bought a bass 4 years ago from a famous european store, bought it brand new but there weren't any certificate. I called the store to see were was the problem till finally got the answer from ernie ball website: they just don't include to all their factory instruments. Fender does, ernie ball doesn't...

Singing jingle bells, that bloody tune comes in my head randomly, too, even it's not Christmas or winter 🤣

My D string piezo just went out after a little over a year. Common issue from what i understand. Ernie Ball is sending me a new one (single D string saddle) at their cost even though warranty is technically out. Love the guitar though.

I found they come with 9 to 46 hybrid strings, and my JP really came to life when I changed..

Only our Cutlass gets the 9-46 hybrids..unless otherwise noted on the order for whatever guitar is being set up. After that almost every other model gets 10s..

Yeah, I've got a set of piezos I have to fix. In my case, remove each saddle, and solder a secondary ground. You should check the variax forums for a topic on piezo dropouts.
