Hearing all these horrific things described like the little kid turning into a zombie while goofy Ace Attorhey music is playing in the background is definitely an experience
Fun fact someone else probably pointed out: In the first episode, the main characters constantly avoid eating the infected yeast. They don't have batter for pancakes, Joel says he's on keto, and Joel forgets to pick up a birthday cake
Funnily enough I keep considering The Simpsons, but because it never seems to end I feel like all I'll be doing is chasing each season as it comes out when I eventually catch up.
The big infected monster in episode 5 exists because the fugus grows over time and covers up more and more of the host's body so it gets bigger and more strong. Idk if i exsplaned it the best but i hope it helped 😅
Fun fact, the actor that played Joel in the game also plays a character in ep 8, he plays the preachers right hand guy, aka the guy that gets hatcheted by Ellie
@@ifuckdudesverynice Yeah thats true! DIdnt think to mention it lmao, its so fun that they asked them to come back for small ish roles, really helped that the director for the game co wrote and directed some the show
Hey Howesenberg ! idk if anyone else mentioned this but at 26:00 when you mention how its no longer "him" inside, the creators said that in the early stages (when he attacked ellie) he would be conscious of when was happening but unable to do anything, his personality still inside. meaning that his fear was correct :(
And for the bloater, you need a bit of game lore, but the bloater is an older clicker. As the zombie gets older more and more cordyceps grows on them until it grows into an almost bulletproof armour.
I just wanna point out that the big mushroom monster zombie, called Bloaters, are the 4th stage of an infected in The Last Of Us universe, ur right that the mooshroom takes over the humans body, but it does so in stages, Runners, being similar to normal zombies, Clickers, wich are the ones from ep2, and Bloaters being infected who have lived for 10+ years, the mooshroom slowly growing onto it takes over all of it's body

25:19 the lore is that if a person is strong and tall before they die, and they can survive past the Clicker Phase, the cordyceps cover the whole body, and makes them stronger by having basically rock skin after
It's not about strength. If their immune system is strong enough to survive the cordyceps basically ripping their body in half constantly, they become those guys
The Last of Us had an average budget of 15 million per episode. Wish AMC was stacked like that for The Walking Dead, maybe we could've seen Winter more than once lol
Watching this made me realize that TV Joel is a lot weirder than Game Joel due to the fact that he takes Ellie as his daughter more quickly. (I think it feels that way due to less screen time with the series.) But also on the last episode we see how Ellie feels after he talks about his daughter and how she reacts uncomfortably
plus game joel is an absolute unit, my joel atleast, my man got jumped by 7 runners and still beat they ass with his fists, my man sees runners and holsters his weapon and unholsters his fists
@@yaman. I think its a good thing a show Joel isn't just killing a hundred zombies everywhere they go. It makes the threat of the zombies actually feel real instead of being another walking dead clone where the main characters just breeze through dozens upon dozens.

25:07 that zombie is a variant called a "Bloater" which is a zombie that develops over 2 decades of infection, becoming stronger and more dangerous. Just like in the show, they can be an absolute beast in the video game and can kill you instantly.
17:49 completely agree. this is one of the best stories i’ve seen portrayed in one episode of tv in a long time, the only thing i think they could have done better is waited a little later in the season to pull the trigger on this amazing and emotional episode. dunno if it was because they were so excited to put their best work out there, or just that it couldn’t be arranged to come later and still make sense story wise. either way awesome ep and awesome video!
Also, the "gym zombie" as you called it is more than capable of existing in the Tlou universe, as the fungus changes and alters the body of an infected the longer they live also depending on how compatible the host is to what the fungus needs, which is why some only last a month while others last for years on end.
@@Howesenberg I agree, that was undoubtedly the creepiest part of the game for me. Having absolutely no control of your body, and still being 100% conscious while being forced to eat people.

I love your TWD reviews. You have a great sense of humor that others lack. I was happy to see you cover TLOU. I haven't played the game either, but the show is amazing. You can tell it is on HBO from the start. The look, the sounds, just first rate.
aside from ellie's mom being the game's Ellie actress, that David henchman that got butchered and marlene were the game's Joel and Marlene herself, respectively as well
something the show doesn't quite explain is that the cordyceps has stages, there's the first stage, which is the runner which is basically any fast generic zombie, the second stage which is the stalker basically just a stealthy zombie that sneaks around to jump non infected people, stage 3 the clicker, this stage they go blind and hunt through echo location and sound and they have very good hearing at this point and are quite strong, stage 4 which is the big chunky fuck is the bloater, at this stage they are blind and the cordyceps has formed a hard exterior armor around the infected and this for a while is the last stage any infected will reach however there is one which is the rat king which is essentially a giant formation of infected into one super strong nigh unstoppable infected, the cordyceps in both the game and the show is super adaptable and doesn't really alter the user however it IS in control so it doesn't need to limit itself like our brain forces us, like we cant exceed a threshold because our brain doesn't let us the cordyceps said fuck that cringe shit ima DESTROY those muscles, as for the armor hard to say really I guess after a certain point it becomes a far harder material over time, so its never actually altering the person its just that cordyceps is just built different, the stages get stronger as the cordyceps gains more and more control over the infected.
Idk if someone’s already explained this but in the game the cordyceps infection has different stages as the infection progresses through time, so after being infected you quickly become a runner which is the most common infected type, after a year it progresses to the clicker stage which are blind and rely on echo location, I’ve never played the second game but they added a stalker type which stalks the player, and if you’re infected for a really long time you become a bloater like you see in episode 5 It makes the gameplay more dynamic and adds variety to the infected types which is fairly well explained 😊
My only major issue with the show is the lack of infected. Besides the clicker fight, and the last scene in Kansas, they really arnt around. Even just seeing them in the background, or a bit of show, dont tell with how they were dealt with it would have gone a long way.
Yeah I felt this too, but then I think they realise that audiences are kind of numb to zombies at this point, so keeping them few and far between makes them feel a bit more special? That's my guess anyway
@@HowesenbergI also wonder if there was budget concerns? The effects for the infected looks BEYOND amazing for a television production, even by HBO standards. They might have just chosen to use the budget on making a smaller selection of VERY effective scenes as opposed to more appearances with slightly less money to spread around. But hey, with how beyond popular S1 was, hopefully S2 will be given an even bigger budget to do some even cooler scenes.
39:11 also the guy who was with the preacher was the voice of Joel In The game. And the guy who’s head gets ripped off by the giant zombie (called a “bloater”) is the one who voiced Tommy in the Videogame
Thanks very much! For as popular as the walking dead videos are, I'm looking forward to the end of the show so I can look at something other than zombies for months on end lol
I'm assuming you mean for TWD, if so trust me it's killing me watching my money shrink down as I work hard to get it completed haha. I promise it won't be too much longer
I’m thankful that zombie media and viruses can’t actually affect or inhabit humans. The scary thing is that I’ve seen people on heavy amounts of substances acting like zombies, with the blank stare, the erratic jerky movements and disorientation. I can understand why it’s a horror genre especially getting bitten. Personally, to experience another human being just biting you full force is excruciating and terrifying. (Thanks Candice, the scars haven’t left yet.)
And The Reason The Buff Clicker (Aka A Bloater) Evolves From a Clicker To A Bloater By Living Long Enough to Not Die , Since The Cordyceps (The Virus In The Last Of Us) Spreads And Makes It More Stronger.
I’m not sure if someone told you this yet but one of the nurses from the last episode that was helping with Ellie’s operation was played by Laura Bailey, who plays a significant character in The Last of Us Part II (don’t look that up unless you want massive spoilers for The Last of Us).
So the Bloaters are the oldest of the infected, from what I’ve learned playing the games and stuff. They basically get overwhelmed by the fungus which grows over their skin like armour. I’m really hoping they don’t jump straight to the second game for the second series, I think I’d be fun to explore more of Ellie and Joel’s relationship after moving into the town. Ellie finding out the truth of what happened and how she deals with it ect. My babyish ass cried so hard when Bill and Frank killed died but it was nice to get more info on Frank (in the game he’s just a hanging body). Fun fact when watching the episode with my boyfriend I saw the gay kiss coming from a mile away and my boyfriend was genuinely shocked by the twist (he hasn’t played the game)
0:49 - Wait, is that Jonathan from The Mummy? Also, Chef Boyardee is so bad you need to be starving and in an apocalypse to appreciate it. Even then, I'd be disappointed it wasn't a can of Spaghetti-Os.
The cordyceps has stages in the show just like irl, 1st stage is a runner, 2nd stage is a stalker, 3rd stage is a clicker, stage 4 is what the big guy was its called a bloater, the cordyceps formed plates of fungi on its body, and in the game they chuck spores at you, which the spores aren't a part of the show but in the game they're a pretty big part, the alternate to the 4th stage is a shambler basically the same as the bloater but they were in an excess amount of water and don't have the armor plating of a bloater, the 5th stage is the rat king a combination of multiple clickers and stalkers fused onto a bloater, and then the 6th stage which is just death. another thing to add on is that it takes i think 3 years to form a clicker, 5-10 years for a bloater, and then the rat king takes about 25 years to form which means that the rat king we see in the second game is the only one in existence
@@Howesenberg It's pretty easy to make the mistake in fairness, you only find out it's Tommy when they meet back up & Joel goes on to Ellie about the fact Tommy was/is a naive optimist who joined the army, a group of raiders, and then the fireflies. On the bright side I don't think you got anything else wrong, the video was pretty on point (go play the 1st game though, it's really fucking good)
howsenberg, the reason why the big boy mushroom zombie exists is because the fungus grows all around the gist after 10 years. that's how long it takes for the big boy to be evolved. ok see you Mr films
The giant zombie variants are supposed to just regular infected except they just have tons of mycelium (the roots of fungus) plated over them which is supposed to act sorta like armor. I believe the fungus is replacing their muscles too so I think thats why their extra strong because they have extra mycelium.
At minute 27:38 I felt called out because while watching the video I was playing red dead online 💀 Btw I had such a good laugh watching this video great job❤👍
Here are reasons why the show doesn’t come close to the game: Joel is not violent like he is in the game Tess is nothing like her character in the game Ellie is a brat and doesn’t behave like a vulnerable teenager in a zombie apocalypse (she does in the game) Frank isn’t even in the game and the fans were robbed of all the funny interactions between bill and Ellie The Kansas City story arch could’ve been three episodes long There was no reason to add Kathleen as the bad guy for that arch. We didn’t get the hotel scene when Ellie saves Joel from getting killed. No basement with stalkers Joel solo mission. Sam is deaf for some reason The scene at the university could’ve been 30 mins long. The bat impaling Joel was dumb compared to him falling off the ledge onto the pipe. Episode 8 and 9 were perfect but the big moments of dialogue in ep 9 felt rushed. The scene where joel saves Ellie and runs through the hospital while getting shot at by the remaining fireflies is just not there. The show is great but it’s garbage compared to the game.
The big infected ones, called Bloaters, are the final and most rare stage of Cordyceps infection. It takes years for them to develop as the Cordyceps spreads and develops across their bodies, and by then they’re turned into hulking juggernauts.
Brudda will u consider doing black mirror it might be the perfect show for this format because it’s brand new stories every episode and I’m assuming yk what is

The cordyceps has stages in the show just like irl, 1st stage is a runner, 2nd stage is a stalker, 3rd stage is a clicker, stage 4 is what the big guy was its called a bloater, the cordyceps formed plates of fungi on its body, and in the game they chuck spores at you, which the spores aren't a part of the show but in the game they're a pretty big part, the alternate to the 4th stage is a shambler basically the same as the bloater but they were in an excess amount of water and don't have the armor plating of a bloater, the 5th stage is the rat king a combination of multiple clickers and stalkers fused onto a bloater, and then the 6th stage which is just death. another thing to add on is that it takes i think 3 years to form a clicker, 5-10 years for a bloater, and then the rat king takes about 25 years to form which means that the rat king we see in the second game is the only one in existence
this video is such a blessing thank u
Glad I could deliver
I'm glad you mentioned the cursor, I would of been very upset lol
I was very upset to have to re-record it lol an hour to me is an hour lost from other work
1:42 Joel isn't a combat veteran, Tommy is
Oh, my bad.
@@Howesenberg It's pretty easy to make the mistake in fairness, you only find out it's Tommy when they meet back up & Joel goes on to Ellie about the fact Tommy was/is a naive optimist who joined the army, a group of raiders, and then the fireflies. On the bright side I don't think you got anything else wrong, the video was pretty on point (go play the 1st game though, it's really fucking good)
howsenberg, the reason why the big boy mushroom zombie exists is because the fungus grows all around the gist after 10 years. that's how long it takes for the big boy to be evolved.
ok see you Mr films
the king has blessed us with another video
15:30 fun fact, this was actually something shown in the Telltale Walking Dead game, it was in season 3 I think
Ellies acting when Henry shoots himself is incredible
27:12
Six Nations Reserve? Damn thats crazy bro I saw a hockey game against that reserve in Saskatoon, small world really 😂
The reason why Joel is laying them out easily is because the player is getting better everytime he respawns
The giant zombie variants are supposed to just regular infected except they just have tons of mycelium (the roots of fungus) plated over them which is supposed to act sorta like armor. I believe the fungus is replacing their muscles too so I think thats why their extra strong because they have extra mycelium.
“The government are all Nazis!” is the best line of dialogue I’ve ever seen in film.
You like the propaganda, nice
38:27 THATS GOTTA BE KAAAAAAAANE!
The fact I just finished this series yesterday is just funny
It’s a crime for not playing the game first before watching this. Unbelievable
This is a nice change of pace
Thank you
Man, I loved this show, the acting, the sets, the characters etc... all good. The second season won't be so good if you've played the second game. 😢
Poor Henry and his brother they just wanted to live it was sad that they had to go like that :(
Yeah I felt that. Pretty brutal end for them 😞
At minute 27:38 I felt called out because while watching the video I was playing red dead online 💀
Btw I had such a good laugh watching this video great job❤👍
A fine combination if I do say so myself
Lol I was about to make a joke comment about your mouse courser on the screen when you said something about it. All good tbh, keep the great vids!!!!!
Thanks very much! 💪
Here are reasons why the show doesn’t come close to the game:
Joel is not violent like he is in the game
Tess is nothing like her character in the game
Ellie is a brat and doesn’t behave like a vulnerable teenager in a zombie apocalypse (she does in the game)
Frank isn’t even in the game and the fans were robbed of all the funny interactions between bill
and Ellie
The Kansas City story arch could’ve been three episodes long
There was no reason to add Kathleen as the bad guy for that arch.
We didn’t get the hotel scene when Ellie saves Joel from getting killed.
No basement with stalkers Joel solo mission.
Sam is deaf for some reason
The scene at the university could’ve been 30 mins long.
When are we getting the fight club video?
The big infected ones, called Bloaters, are the final and most rare stage of Cordyceps infection. It takes years for them to develop as the Cordyceps spreads and develops across their bodies, and by then they’re turned into hulking juggernauts.
can’t wait for the season 2 recap when that’s out
re: the Marlene killing. Joel being super selfish? nah dude, he's just being a parent. Marlene showed her hand, there's no coming back from that.
Brudda will u consider doing black mirror it might be the perfect show for this format because it’s brand new stories every episode and I’m assuming yk what is
Absolutely, love that show. I'll look into it when it ends.

New thumbnail Moment
I was expecting the walking dead but this is a pleasant surprise again love you're stuff 😊❤
Thanks very much 💪
Welcome back :D
just finished work, get in!!!!
The other guy with David who got the knife to the throat was Troy Baker, Joels Voice actor.
there was no need for the pipe falling audio when he hits her with the wwrench but i loved it
To be fair there's no need for most of what I do, I just enjoy being a goof
very unexpected but i love it howsy!
