    Gotta give some love to Tiran Porter, one of my favorite bass players. He never takes the obvious route, always playing something interesting that acts as a counterpoint to the main melody while still driving the song forward. And a great singer too!

    Tommy Johnston (lead vocals on this track) came down with serious stomach issues and was replaced by McDonald and the band transitioned to a more laid back sound. A few years later Johnston returned, McDonald left and they returned to the rock sound to this day. Saw Three Dog Night in concert around 1972 and the Doobies, who nobody had ever heard of at the time, were the opening act and blew the roof off the place. A couple of weeks later Listen To The Music hit the airwaves.

Still love every track to this day and it is still one of my top 10 favorite all time albums. Not a weak track on there and worthy of an entire album reaction. Highlights for me include the Johnston and Simmons guitar opus Without You, Clear as the Driven Snow, Ukiah and Dark Eyed Cajun Woman. Jeff Skunk Baxter also of Steely Dan fame played pedal steel guitar on South City Midnight Lady…another banger. Shameful that it took till 2020 for these musical geniuses to be inducted into the R & R Hall of Fame!

    Takes me back to my teen years! The Doobies had a great groove... and those bongos added special sauce! Music from the 70's was fantastic. I enjoy watching younger generations discovering for themselves how talented the songwriters, instrumentalists and vocalists were to lay down tracks like this, without auto tune and other enhancements. No disrespect to today's artists--- because there are some great ones---but I wish everybody under 30 would listen to a few songs like this from 50 years ago to experience authentically great talent. Thanks for opening your minds to rock, funk, blues, and all the other genres that we got to enjoy. Hope it will keep this music alive and well!!

Right in the middle of the night, the DJ dropped this track. The place went OFF, everyone absolutely loved it. Good times, thanks for the memories :)

    • @jonnylumberjack6223
      @jonnylumberjack6223 Рік тому

      @@coinneachmaclellan3121 It's kind of hilarious really, we have the English to thank for the behaviour of the Tartan Army. As soon as English fans started to behave really badly, Scotland was like, oh shit, if the English are doing that, it's clearly not for us and almost immediately turned into a drunken but entirely benevolent crowd. Same thing with general racism. England went all nationalistic and neo nazi lite and Scotland, all of a sudden, were stringently anti racist. It pains me slightly, to give England so much credit but it's a real thing....whatever England do, Scotland do the opposite. True story 🙂.

    • @coinneachmaclellan3121
      @coinneachmaclellan3121 Рік тому +1

      @@jonnylumberjack6223 From what I've been given to understand the Scots bad behavior was only directed at the English and God knows they have centuries of reasons for that, but they were well behaved as a people with a rich and varied musical culture that demanded expression. I remember being in a steakhouse in Islington in London in 1975 during a home final where the high street leading to Wembley was all boarded up. There was a group of Scots at a table when suddenly one of them stood up with a mug in his hand and started singing to the whole restaurant...he was celebrating his country and who he was, something Scots have done for centuries. It's why the English tried to destroy the clan system, the culture and identity of the Scots. You're right that the English played a part if only to provide a focus for something that was already there and the Tartan Army is an expression of that shared cultural identity in a positive and assertive way.

    story of changing with the times and the influences of the music they loved. So in their way, they had two careers and a wider appeal to
    more people. That's what good music is all about. It's all good.

    The main guitar part is actually a "clean" electric guitar.
    Simple chords, but not as easy to strum properly as it sounds.
    This song is SO funky!
    My favorite DB song... 🤙😎

    That's from the Captain and Me album. They have four albums in a row that are flawless, that you should definitely add to your collection. In order they are: Toulouse Street, The Captain and Me, What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits, and Stampede. You can put any of them on and every song will grab your attention.

    The 1982 LIVE concert from a park in Pasadena has Cornelius Bumpus on vocals, keys, and sax- 2 sets of drummers and a bongo player.....Cornelius (RIP) was also a session Sax player for Steely Dan...
