I got the same impression. I think in part it is that it is difficult to think of any other program on mainstream TV which touched regularly on literature, criticism etc.
i loved his intense admiration of Jesus, he came so so close to understand why so many wise men still follow him what are the odds an obscure carpenter continuously speaking in riddles would become the most famous personality in all history

This is not the worst interview I've ever seen, but I cannot understand how Charlie Rose ever gained such a favorable reputation.
